Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

A beautiful day here in Orem - cooler than it has been but the sun is out so bright and pretty. I fertilized the yard last Friday and then when it didn't rain Saturday morning I watered everything and THEN it rained that afternoon so things are green - I hope they stay that way.

I know you're all doing good - I have talked to each family with the exception of the Weinerts but I hear from the Woolleys that they're doing good.

It was fun to talk to Bob & Claire last night - I kept waiting to find out why they called and it was SO nice to find out they just called to say "Hi". I had watched a medical program on television telling about how they are using laser treatment to cure snoring - Bob said he had gone to California to learn more about that - that would surely be a good thing for many people!!! Bob had taken his boy scouts to West Canyon on Friday to spend the night - he said they had a good time and even little Brett had gone - I THINK THAT IS WONDERFUL!!!

Emily had such a fun birthday party on Saturday. I felt bad that I had forgotten to wish Patrice a Happy St. Patrick's day in my letter last week so I called her on Thursday evening and it would have been 10 o'clock their time. I really know better than to call them that late but I had gone to dinner with Ellen Mae & Mel and didn't get home until then. Anyway - I got their answering service so Patrice called me back the next day. She told me their plans for Emily's party. They invited about a dozen of her friends to come for breakfast - they made a stack of pancakes and put the birthday candles on it. They are having pretty weather in Little Rock now so the children were able to play outside and I know they had a good time.

John drops in for his mail so I see him some. He is doing really good - I believe Julianna was in Phoenix over the weekend and John goes to Las Vegas this week for a trade show. They will be super busy starting next week when they start addressing their invitations. May 7th will be here before we all know it.

The Woolleys are doing good too. They came over for Family Home Evening last night and we had fun - they had had a Young Women's program in their ward and they came right from that - Ron still had on his suit and the girls were all dressed up. They called and invited me to go with them to the movie - "Cool Running" - on Saturday. I would never have gone to that movie on my own and I REALLY enjoyed it - it had such a good message!!!

Friday afternoon I went to the grocery store and Blockbuster Video was right by it so I decided to go choose a video to watch that night. I chose "The Firm" and I got all ready to watch it and it was SO scary I turned it off and watched it the next morning. I wish I could choose better movies to rent.

Ellen Mae and Mel came down on Thursday and we had such a good time. We went to see Charone and Thales Smith (Charone and Ellen Mae & I were friends in Brigham City). Charone is the one who just broke her hip. Her husband is a doctor so he had made a hospital room in their front television room and we had a lot of fun talking about OLD times. We then went to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant - they took one of their grandsons who is a student at BYU and it was fun to get to know him - he is the son of Debbie (Ann & Jean remember her).

My bugs are coming back and I'm SO discouraged. My neighbor, Shauna Theobald, called and told me she had called the extension service and they said they are probably immune to the spray by now. They suggested that we roll up newspapers and put them around where they are - they said they like dark warm places and will crawl into the newspapers. I have newspapers ALL OVER the front and back of my house and out on the porch - it is too cool for them today so I don't know if it will help or not. I believe I will have my trees cut down - they are gorgeous but I simply can't stand these bugs. The extension service said that wouldn't help but surely it will help a little bit.

Dianne was here one day last week and she called and we had a good visit. Her son, Brick, and his wife just had a little baby girl - Ann Elizabeth. Dianne couldn't stand to not see her so she flew over for a couple days. Their whole family will come in a couple weeks. They're planning a wedding for May 7th too - Trace will be marrying in California.

A lot of people in my neighborhood are selling their homes - it's kinda' scary. We talked a lot about it in our presidency meeting this morning and they told me it's because of the "Youth Problem" - the young people are so undisciplined that no one wants to rear their children here. The young people are SO good to me but they do naughty things to many of the neighbors.

I can't think of any more news. I love each one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Let me know how I can help you.
