January 10, 1994 Orem, Utah
Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
I have been doing Relief Society work all morning - we had our presidency meeting from 9 'til 12 and when I came home I had 4 messages on my phone about illnesses in the ward. It's 2 o'clock now and I hope to get this in the mail before the mail man comes.
We are having pretty weather but it is cold and we REALLY NEED more snow. I would like to drive to Scofield and check out the cabin because the reports are that they haven't had very much snow - I won't go alone. I know the lake is frozen over because there is
a lot of ice fishing there that is reported in the paper.
I was SO happy to hear from Roy & Patrice this weekend and to talk to Emily and Timothy. I can't help but worry about Timothy but Roy & Patrice say he is much improved - I guess when he gets a cold and until he is completely over it he is susceptible to the asthma. I heard on the television about the medication they were using in the nebulizers that might cause pneumonia and when I talked to Patrice she said they weren't using that kind so that's good. I know he will grow out of it - he's such a healthy little guy. Emily was SO excited because she had been invited to go skating - she didn't know if it would be ice or roller - but she didn't get to go because it would have been too late by the time they could go. I could take her roller skating here in Orem sometime when they visit if one of the older cousins could go.
Weinerts - thank you so much for your sweet letters. I'm sending you some copies of the pictures taken at my birthday party and I'll have to tell you what happened. I took them to get copies made and thought the regular size was 5 X 7 and I had many other negatives copied too - I was surprised to see them be that large. I don't know measurements or weights - I missed that class in school - Ha!!!
John called last night and their official wedding date is May 7, 1994 at 10:45 in the Jordan River Temple. I feel better about it being in May rather than in April when I think about the reception being outside. We could have stormy weather then too and if that happens we'll just have it inside and move the furniture out - I hope they will plan to have the reception early because it gets cold in the evening until June. John really keeps busy - he went to Las Vegas last week and then to San Francisco - I don't know how he keeps up with his school work. The Woolleys came over last night for Family Home Evening and we had a fun time. Russell is in a singing group that will perform on January 23rd - it is a "Focus on Children" broadcast that will come by satellite to all the stake centers at 6 p.m. so be sure to go see it. He has missed the last two Family Home Evenings because of practices for it. The children were sleepy while they were here last night but when I heard of all their activities during the weekend I wasn't surprised - skiing, snowmobiling, etc., etc. It was my turn to give the lesson so we watched one of those Living Scripture Videos on Samuel, the Boy Prophet. We also watched "Murder, She Wrote" and it's good they are having some new ones so we don't have to watch re-runs. Ann brought a delicious peach cobbler.
Michael - are you still into hockey? I know you must be very good at that but I'll bet it is hard. When I see how well you roller skate I can just imagine how good you are at hockey. I am amazed at how agile my grandchildren are - I have always been so clumsy and anything athletic has been very difficult for me!!!
I spent last Friday in the temple and it was really fun. There weren't very many people there and I just took my time and it was very relaxing. Do any of you remember Becky Lakko from Billings? I know John remembers her - they worked together in the car detailing shop there. I ran into her in the temple and we had a good visit. She is still single and works in Spanish Fork but lives in Provo. She asked about you John and I was happy to tell her you were engaged.
I went to a funeral viewing last week and it was very sad. The mother and little brother of one of our missionaries were killed in an automobile accident in Oregon. They live in Pleasant Grove but were visiting family in Oregon on New Year's Eve.
When I talked to Roy on Saturday I was happy to hear him say they were having pretty weather. President Clinton's mother was being buried that day and I wanted it to be a pretty day. That was really a shock but as Ann said, what a beautiful way to go when you have cancer - she died in her sleep. She had been to lunch with some friends the day before.
We are going to have our Relief Society Homemaking meeting in the morning and someone is going to demonstrate Dutch Oven Cooking and then we will have that food for our luncheon. I have signed up to make those nylon mesh book covers for our manuals so I won't learn about Dutch Oven Cooking but maybe I'll get some recipes. It would be fun to have some Dutch Oven meals at the cabin this Summer - we have only done that once but the food was just delicious. As you can probably tell - I am getting anxious to go to the cabin and it will be even more fun this Summer with the bathtub and shower. By then I will be happy to get away from the telephone. I worry that there won't be good fishing if we don't get more snow - there was exceptionally good fishing last Summer.
Word Perfect is going to be laying off lots of people in this area and they won't know who they are until Jan. 24th - sad! They want their stock to go public and they have to do this.
