I always seem to start my letters by commenting on the weather so here I go again - we are having a beautiful Fall!!!

One day last week one of my neighbor friends called and asked me to drive to Provo canyon with her - she took me to South Fork and I couldn't believe I had never been there before. It is a perfect place for family picnics and the leaves were just absolutely gorgeous. There were four of us and while we were walking around one of the ladies asked about our luncheon club which was supposed to be the next day. The lady who was supposed to have it had forgotten and she was SO embarrassed. We decided to have a picnic lunch up there for the club luncheon the next day. Helen, who was supposed to have it, went to Albertsons and got sandwiches, potato salad, slaw and cookies and it was WONDERFUL and no work for anyone!!! Sometimes the things that are the most fun turn out to be the least work.

I have talked to each one of you this week and it's so good to know you're doing good and are happy. It was SO fun to talk to you Patrice and I appreciate your calling and giving me the genealogy information I need. I realized after we hung up that I had forgotten to ask how Roy was - Ha!!! I imagine he was at work. I could hear Emily and her friend in the background and I bet little Timothy was napping. Emily reminds me SO much of some of my children - she is happiest when she has friends with her and I think that is really healthy. I am getting excited about my trip to be with you - it will be fun to walk to school with Emily and go to lunch at her school and to play with Timothy!!!

I was so happy to have you call last night Bob - I'm sorry that my home teachers came during our conversation and I didn't say everything I wanted to say - Ha!!! Your trip this weekend to Sun Valley with the Weinerts sounds fun. Jeannie said they plan to do some bicycling - what else do you do there? Bob said that Brett had been to a baptism preparation meeting - your ward is really on the ball because he won't be baptized until January.

Jeannie - it was fun to talk to you too and I hope your salsa turned out good. I haven't made any salsa this year- I made some last year and it was wonderful but even in the small jars it spoils before I can use it. It makes me realize how much preservative must be in the kind I buy because it lasts for a long time. My neighbor gave me plums and I have made plum jam but it took a long time to make - the plums were small and it was like peeling grapes to take the stones out. It's fun to hear about Barji & Mary Ann trying out for ballet parts in the Nutcracker again this year - I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I loved our phone visit last night Annie. I looked for the Woolleys to come over last night because they usually do to watch "Murder, She Wrote" with me. They didn't come and Ann called to say they had gone to the canyon with friends and didn't take their car phone with them so they couldn't call. I was glad they had gone to enjoy the scenery because it won't last. They keep really busy as I know all of you do. Ron's parents and Mimi come down for the football games when BYU plays in Provo so they had been down this weekend. I just love to watch the games and I was so excited on Saturday because BYU had played well enough to win - they have won their other games but they haven't played all that good. After the game was over I met my neighbor, Keith Smith, at the mailbox and I said, "Wasn't that a wonderful game?" and he said, "What game?" I couldn't believe it because he is such a sports fan but he says he only likes the professional teams. BYU will play Notre Dame in Provo the day I come back from Little Rock - that will be an exciting game and I hope BYU doesn't get crucified.

I went to the play "Oliver" in American Fork on Friday night with some friends and it was WONDERFUL. I wish I had had my grandchildren with me because they would have all enjoyed it. The cast was filled with young children and they were SO good. It was held at the Utah Development Center which used to be called the Training School and the acoustics on the stage were just excellent.

I had a disappointment this morning. Chris Jordin called me about three months ago and said they would be in the West from September 19th through the 29th. She couldn't tell me exactly when they would come see me - it would either be at the first of their visit or the end. They were coming for the missionary homecoming of one of Marc's nephews. I have had this ten day period blocked off so I would be available. She has called me periodically throughout this time and it was finally decided that I would meet them in Salt Lake tomorrow, the 28th, where we would go to the Joseph Smith Memorial and then they would come spend the night with me and then go back to the airport the next morning to go back to Little Rock. She called early this morning and said that Marc had taken ill and they were going to have to leave to go home. This very same thing happened the last time they were here except that I had prepared a lot of food - I haven't done that this time. It's hard to understand people like Marc but I'm trying!!!

I'm planning a party for a week from tomorrow - Oct. 5th. I'm going to have the Lehi group in to hear Ed Baird and then serve a buffet supper. I'm going to have the Brigham City group in for the same thing on Oct. 25th. I wanted to do this during the Summer because I have more room outside but I just couldn't get time to do it. I will probably have about 14 and it will be crowded but they won't mind. He is 87 years old and is just a remarkable man - he goes to live with another son on Nov. 1st.
