September 13, 1993 - a day that will go down in history they say!!! I have just been watching the signing of the peace agreement between the Israel, PLO and other
Mideast Countries. I read in the paper yesterday that there was quite a question as to whether or not Arrafat and the Israel Prime Minister would shake hands after the signing so it was quite thrilling to see them do that. I was also surprised to see Arrafat smiling during most of the ceremonies - he is so different looking with his turban on his head and different apparel that he catches the eye of most everyone. I was thrilled to see President Carter there and have him receive a lot of recognition because I will always think he hasn't been given the credit due him. I was also glad to see President Bush receive credit too. Where was President Reagan??? It was kinda' scary to see the pictures of Jericho on the screen as this was going on. I know it is the hope of everyone that this will be the beginning of peace in those countries that have been fighting for so long.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RICK on Friday!!! I hope you will have a wonderful day Rick with breakfast in bed, etc., etc.!!!!
The Woolleys came over last night for Family Home Evening and that cute LeeAnna gave a beautiful lesson - she had a large bag filled with things that she had labeled that give us a heavy heart such as; anger, jealousy, hatred, being mad, etc., etc. as we took those things out of the bag it became lighter and lighter and she taught how foolish it is for us to carry those things in our hearts to make it so heavy. I LOVE it when the children plan those lessons all by themselves and teach important things in such a way that we all understand it.
They told me about their trip to Lake Powell and they said they had a WONDERFUL time!!! Susanna was so excited because she had been able to drive their boat while her Dad
skied - that's really something. They all skied!!! They had really good weather except for one night. They had camped between huge mountains without good places to anchor so their anchors weren't very secure. In the middle of the night a wind came up and they came loose and the houseboat started to move. They awakened all the children and had them leave the boat and stay on shore until they could get it better anchored.
John has been in and out a few times. He is one busy man but he's busy doing good things and that's great!!! One of our former missionaries who is close to John called last night to get his new number - I had company so I couldn't talk to him and when I finally tracked John down he was at work - Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
Patrice - thank you SO much for your sweet letter and those pictures - I LOVE them!!! It will be so much fun to go to school with Emily and have lunch with her - I know I have taught at her school may years ago when I was substituting all over Little Rock. I'm SO glad she is happy in school. I'm also anxious to play with little Timothy - he will soon be three years old and what a darling little boy he is. Three is my favorite age of children and just perfect to welcome a new little brother or sister. I can just imagine how excited the children are to have their two Grandmas coming to visit them - now if it just isn't too much stress for their mother!!! (Suzie is going to be with their family two weeks after I leave so she can help with the new baby). Sometime I would like to be there when she is there - we would have fun together I know.
Bob - John promised me that you and he would "Winterize" the cabin. I imagine they will turn the water off around October 1st - I hope it won't be that soon if the weather still good. I will get the anti-freeze and take it up and put it in the skunk room - it has to be that "R V anti-freeze". Byrd took al the water out of the toilet last year with a suction hose - is that necessary? I absolutely have no idea how to drain the cabin but I know you guys do and I also know you want to do it so no pipes will have to be replaced next year.
Jeannie - did you get the sketches of Barji & Mary Ann framed? They had sketches made while we were at Midway last week and they turned out SO cute. It didn't take the man very long to do them and they really look like the girls - WHAT A TALENT!!!
Claire - have you started any sewing projects lately? There's something about this time of year that makes me want to go to a fabric store and shop for material - it's dumb for me to do any sewing but you are GOOD!!!
I had an absolutely MARVELOUS time at my 50th High School Reunion on Friday. The only thing I would change would have been to not have my hair cut the day before - it looked horrible!!! I drove to Ellen Mae & Mels' home in Kaysville and then we drove to Brigham City where we went to Ida's sister's home to wait for her. We all went to "Sherwood Hills" in the canyon between Brigham City and Logan and got there about 4:30. It was a beautiful day and so much fun to see OLD friends. I had called Dee while I was in Brigham and found out they were having their 45th reunion at the same place. Dee & Judy, and Don & Cheryl all came into my reunion to find me and that meant a lot to me. The highlight for me was to visit with my old boyfriend, Arthur Murphy. He lives in Fort Worth, is a member of the Methodist Church, has a beautiful and lovely wife and they were just wonderful to me - high school memories of our fun together are very vivid and we had so much fun talking about them. I regret that my children do not have the high school ties with friends that I do. People came from all over - Japanese students who grew vegetables in Honeyville are now professionals!!!
