Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
Happy Labor Day!!! I know what some of you are doing - the Bob Mellors and the Woolleys are on their way home from Lake Powell and I hope so much that they have had good weather. They predicted good weather but we have had wind and clouds with a few rain drops - I just HATE to think of being on the houseboat and have it turn windy!!! I'll be relieved when they get home.
John has been in and out and I have tried to call his apartment to see if he would come for dinner but he is NEVER there - I don't believe he really lives there - Ha!!! His roommates always laugh when I call and say, "You just missed him".
I have talked to both Chris & Dorothy from Little Rock and they say it has been hot and very dry - I said, "Oh, that's great" but they say you really need the moisture. I hope you have been able to do something special over this weekend Roy & Patrice. I am so looking forward to coming to be with you - Dorothy and Dan are going on a trip to the New England states while I'm there - I believe they will be home the day before I come home. Dana & Nick have bought an older home on a couple acres of ground out by Taylor Loop - they're excited to fix it up. It surely brings back a lot of memories to hear about Taylor Loop - that's where the Bisbee family originated and we spent a lot of time out there visiting teaching and taking food for funerals trying to get them active in the church - they were all SO poor!!!
I had SO much fun with Jeannie and her darling friend on Saturday. They have an annual "Swiss Day Celebration" up in Midway every year and Daddy & I went with Annie a few years ago but I haven't been back since. You just wouldn't believe what they have - they have a large park and they convert it into a mass of little shops selling crafts, pictures, food, etc. They must have had ten thousand people there on Saturday - in fact, Jeannie said they have stopped advertising because they don't need to. They have bleachers set up in front of a covered stage where they have continuous folk singing and dancing. They had all kinds of Swiss food but Jeannie, Mary Ann & I had "Swiss Tacos" and they were delicious - beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and salsa on top of scones. Jeannie brought Mary Ann & Barji, and her friend, Sue, brought her daughter Nikki who is a friend of Barjis.
We stayed in Midway for about four hours and then we went to the Outlet Mall in Park City. They have really expanded that since I have been there and we all went our separate ways for about two hours and had so much fun. I felt bad that they had to bring me back to Orem because they could have driven so much faster right to Farmington. They wanted some peaches though so maybe it wasn't too bad - they bought peaches in Orem. It was fun to visit with Jean's friend - she is the daughter-in-law of one of my college friends.
I was surprised last Tuesday. I was out in the yard digging up some of those tree root clumps when Chris & Wayne came. They were on their way home from their trip to Alaska and wanted to take me to lunch. I was starving so I hurried and got cleaned up and we went to Chuck O Rama - they had Wayne's sister and her husband with them and it was fun to meet them. They have a 5th wheeler and they had driven that to Alaska - they were quite upset with all the bad roads!!! Wayne said they didn't catch even one fish and it rained every day were there - I don't believe they will be anxious to go back.
I had a phone call yesterday afternoon from Joan & Don Corbitts' daughter who lives here in Orem. She called to tell me that Don had passed away - he had a massive heart attach while they were at their home in San Diego three week ago and just didn't respond to the treatment they gave him and died on Saturday. I can't believe it - Don was ALWAYS in some kind of exercise program and seemed to be a picture of health. They still have their home in Phoenix and his funeral will be there this Thursday. Corinne asked me to call Lillie Goulding Clark and any other Phoenix friends I could get in touch with so I spent all afternoon on the phone and it was fun to visit with friends I haven't talked to for a long, long time. I called ReNee Haggard and we had such a good visit - she told me all about Jerry's stroke and he is confined to a wheel chair. Their son Mark doesn't live too far from me so she said she would stop by sometime to visit. Roy - do you remember Courte? He is a dentist but I can't remember where he is practicing. He is in his second marriage but ReNee says this one will work. She wanted to know all about all of you. I also had a good visit with Joanne Doxey - their daughter Cindy is getting her doctorate in Family Science at BYU and she is 30 and still single. She is living in those condominiums where Aunt Elaine lives. It was fun to talk to Lillie too - Mike is building a home in Mesa and Jerry is still in Afton, Wyoming and his oldest son is in school at BYU and will go on a mission in February. Don was only 68!!!
I am looking forward to my 50th High School reunion this coming Friday. I am going to pick up Ellen Mae and Eris Holmes and we will drive to Brigham City and get Ida and then go to that place between Logan and Brigham City called 'Sherwood Hills". I have never been there but I hear it is very nice. Ellen Mae fell and broke her wrist last week but she still wants to drive - I don't think she wants to go in my small car - they have a
Cadillac isn't that dumb? Mel and Clinton are going early so they can play golf. I bought a new outfit and it is REALLY wild - I hope I don't feel funny in it. I have a million things going on this week - lots of mutual work!!! I spent a lot of time doing extraction last week - Swedish names in 1845!!!
