We are having Fall weather - I can't believe the Summer is almost over but it has surely been a beautiful one - not too hot!!!
I hope you all are doing fine - I have heard from some of you and I know it is REALLY a busy time in your lives - getting children settled in school along with your regular busy schedules.
The Woolleys came over last night for Family Home Evening - Ann gave the lesson and I couldn't answer even one of her questions. They have started to read the Book of Mormon again as a family and they started with the Introduction and the testimonies of the witnesses - I haven't read that part for a long, long time!!! She divided us into two teams and whenever a team got the answer right she gave them "sour balls" - it was fun. LeeAnna told three stories that she had heard in her Sunday School class - she had taken notes so she could remember everything and it was wonderful!!! It was fun to hear them tell about school - they're all happy with their classes and teachers.
The Woolleys and the Bob Mellors are going to Lake Powell this weekend - they plan to leave about noon on Friday and come home Monday evening. They will have a good time and I hope the weather stays good - it will be a little cooler than when we were there last.
I don't know if the Weinerts have anything special planned for the Labor Day Weekend. I imagine the Roy Mellors will not do anything special because I'm betting Roy will have to work since he just had a vacation. I'm betting that John will be studying or working but then "What Do I Know???" John says that school is going good - he drops in occasionally but is always in a hurry.
I had a fun week last but a frustrating time at the cabin. I wanted to get the deck stained before the weather got bad so I went to Ernst here in Orem and they recommended the kind of stain I should use. I couldn't believe it but one gallon wasn't enough - the wood just soaks it up. I ran out of paint about 1 p.m. on Wednesday and was only half way through - I decided to go into Price to get some more since I wasn't sure when I would get back up there. That is an eighty mile trip both ways!!! I stopped at the K-Mart store right close to the freeway and they were out of the deck stain I was suing in the redwood color. The girl helping me said, "Oh, I can color some for you" so I said okay. I hurried back to Scofield and finished the deck - as I was putting everything away I looked on the directions to see how long it would take it to dry and it said, "DO NOT USE ON DECKS OR HORIZONTAL WOOD" then it rained so I'm sure it washed it away!!!
Bob had taken Daddy's 4-wheeler back to the cabin and I couldn't believe it - it looks like it is new!!! I didn't see it after it had crashed but there isn't a mark on it now - I feel bad because I'm sure it has been very expensive for you Bob!!!
I went to a luncheon at a neighborhood friend's home - Hannah Oldroyd - on Thursday. That is such a sweet home environment and I admire Hannah SO much. Hannah is 82 years old and her husband, Bill, is 87 and he had a stroke last November. His mind is very good but he can't walk alone and he is very weak. They have 8 children and their daughters keep taking turns coming from California to accompany their parents back to stay with them. Their daughter, Nancy, was there on Thursday and she is just a little tiny woman and she took Bill for a walk up and down the street and I worried that they would both fall. Hannah had prepared a delicious luncheon and then sent rolls home with everyone.
Friday I went to the Summer Party for the Orem Women's Club. It was held at the Oakcrest Inn - a restaurant I pass on my way to Scofield. The food was very good but the entertainment was excellent. They had a man playing the guitar and another man playing the violin and I have never heard anything any better - the violinist was fabulous.
Claire - thank you SO much for your sweet letters and also for having those brochures sent from Sun Valley, Idaho. It sounds like the accommodations there are similar to Aspen Grove. I discussed this with the Woolleys when they were here last night and we decided that for next Summer we should look into something that would involve a weekend. Ann said she would be responsible for making reservations for everyone if we could come to an agreement about we would like to have our reunion. First of all we would need to get a commitment from everyone as to a date. The families that have children in the year round school program could only have a time in July if we involved anything anymore than a weekend. Roy & Patrice will be in Connecticut in June and their situation will be more involved because of their new little baby.
We talked about places such as; Park City, Bryce Canyon, Jenny's Lake, Jackson Hole etc. Bryce would be fun if we went early in the Spring but too hot later in the summer so we need to take those things into consideration. There are many wonderful places close to my home and we should consider that because traveling with the children is hard. Please give me your suggestions and the times you would be available because the earlier we make reservations the better chance we will have of getting what we want.
I REALLY should go out on the "hill" and weed but I think I will go to the extraction office and do genealogy. The garbage man is getting my garbage now and I feel had because I threw out LOTS of the smoked fish Daddy had fixed - it was OLD!!!
