Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESSIE TODAY and also HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JEANNIE NEXT FRIDAY. Jessie is a teenager - I can't believe it and everything she does wrong now will be attributed to the fact that she's a teenager - Ha!!! Jeannie is a forty-something and everything she does wrong now will be attributed to the fact that she's getting old - Ha!!!
It's Sunday afternoon (Easter) and I'm writing my letter today because I have to go to Salt Lake for jury duty in the morning. They notified me in November that I would be on call for jury duty from December through April - I have kinda' looked forward to it and I hop I REALLY get to on a jury. I have heard so many stories about this kind of thing and more people get sent home than get to serve so it will be interesting. Daddy was called on a jury duty here in Provo and he only went one time and they sent him home - he never did tell me why - Ha!!! I had my final exam in the Book of Mormon class I have been taking and it wasn't due (it's the kind you can take home and use your book or have other people do it for you or whatever) until this next week. I finished it and took it to him last week and told him I may be gone for jury duty and he said, "Well, if you want to serve don't dress really conservatively and answer all the questions right". He said when he appeared to serve in a white shirt and tie they sent him home.
I REALLY have a lot of things going on tomorrow. It was my turn to have Family Home Evening tomorrow night but somehow another lady thought it was her turn and has everything ready - since it would help me to not have it we are going to her place. THEN - I have hired a legal appraiser to appraise all our property and he wants to come see the house tomorrow. I gave him John's business phone number so he will call him and have him show it to him. He said he could come Tuesday if tomorrow didn't work out. It's going to be interesting to see how he appraises everything - I personally think we had it too high in the trust and I guess that's why it has to be done legally.
John came over yesterday afternoon and turned my sprinkling system on - I can't turn that big thing that goes down in the ground and
every time I go out in the front yard to do something like that all the men in the neighborhood come to help me and it makes me feel SO self conscious!!! I had broken one of the sprinkling things and John had to dig down and repair all of it and get some new stuff for it - I watched him and after he had finished he said, "Now, Mom do you think you could do it next time?" He knows I couldn't. I listened all night for it to go on and it didn't - John didn't know if it would go on last night or tonight since it was set for every other night. If it doesn't go on tonight there will probably be something wrong - ugh!!! I am having a hard time with all those soil pellets that are still on the lawn from the aerating - everyone keeps telling me they will go into the soil but so far they haven't!!! I don't want to have the lawn mowed until they are all gone because it would be like mowing hard dirt.
The Weinerts have spent the past few days in Southern Utah. Their children had their Spring Break. I know they have had a good time because the weather down there was supposed to be warm. Everyone around here is SO anxious for warm weather - we have had a long cold winter!!!
The Woolleys children will have their Spring Break a little later in the month. They are coming over tonight for Family Home Evening and I have made a dessert using a recipe that Ann gave me - it's called Chocolate Mousse and if it turns out I'll send the recipe. It is anything but healthful - butter, chocolate and eggs - but as I was making it last night I LOVED tasting it.
Speaking of healthful foods - I am really pleased that John is trying to stay away from foods with "fat" in them. I have always loved bran muffins and now when I have some on hand he actually eats and enjoys them - in fact, I believe I have burned him out on them. I don't know if he has had a bad cholesterol report or what but I have NEVER been able to convince him that it was bad for him.
I had a phone call from a girl in my former mutual class yesterday and her name is Ann Elise. She has a very quiet voice and when she told me who it was I thought it was Emily. I talked to her as if she were Emily for a long time until I finally caught on who it was. I hope you all are doing good in Little Rock. I had a sweet letter from Dorothy this week and she said that the man who bought our house there is a good friend of Bill Clintons and he spends a lot of time in Washington - his name is Paul Berry.
I hope the Bob Mellors have been able to get away this weekend. Shall we all plan on going to the cabin May 1st since that is a day that Bob will not be on call? I'll call around the 24th to see if the water has been turned on - I believe our neighbor Byrd Gordon will know. I doubt very much that it will be turned on by then and it would be quite miserable to not have use of a bathroom. They do have those portable bathrooms up there by the lake that we could use I guess. I also could take the "porta pottie". We would probably want to leave quite early Saturday morning - maybe John would get the flat bed trailer hooked onto the car and over here by Friday night. I'll call you when I find out about the water.
I drove by the new temple site in American Fork - it is a beautiful spot. Lots of building going on - they'll start the new building by us soon-it will be the size of the Delta Center!
