March 8, 1993 Orem, Utah

Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

I am writing my letter early this morning. I slept with my window open last night for the first time in months and was awakened with the sun coming through. It is beautiful outside and I will finish my letter, walk to my class and then go to the genealogy lab and work for a few hours. I am enjoying that!!!

We had a fun family home evening last night. It was my turn to give the lesson and I REALLY had to work to get prepared because you know me and the scriptures!!! It was fun because the children are SO responsive and knew the Bible stories better than I did even after I had prepared for two weeks!!! Ron is doing REALLY good - he says he feels better each day and is working full time. I AM SURPRISED!!! It's fun to hear about all their activities - Susanna will be registering for high school this week and Jessie will be registering for eighth grade and Jimmy is starting piano lessons. LeeAnna is worried about getting fat and she is thin as a rail and Russell is enjoying his cello. Ann loves her work with the students doing their student teaching.

It was fun to talk to you again this week Roy and especially to visit for a few minutes with Emily & Timothy. Timothy continues to amaze me when I talk to him - he sounds so grown up!!! I'll send Grandpa Roy's picture to you - I'll take it to UPS and have them wrap it because they are so fussy about accepting anything that can't be replaced.

Jeannie and Claire - would you be able to come to the Orem Women Club's Fashion show and luncheon on March 20th at noon? I have tickets for you and will call you this weekend to check and see if you can. Ann has gone with me the last four years and the fashion show is put on by J. C. Penneys so it isn't fancy but the models are women from the club and it's kinda' fun. Ann says she will be able to go and I hope you will too. I invited Ellen Mae and Marian too - Ellen Mae says she can't come because of some Relief Society function she is involved in and I haven't checked with Marian yet. I won't feel bad if you have other things planned but I hope you will be able to come. I am on the committee this year so I have to go at 8 o'clock to help decorate the tables and I will be able to reserve us places. It is at UVCC so if you wanted to, you could park here at my home and walk through the back yard - it would be almost as close as trying to find a parking place over there.

I hope your cruise was fun, Bob & Claire. I went to the phone several times to call to see how the children were getting along and then I decided that would be interfering so I didn't. I hope you took a lot of pictures that you will share.

I decided to take the cable off my television set.  It was just foolish to keep it because I have watched it probably twice all Winter.  After I had taken it off, I couldn't get my television to work - I hooked and unhooked everything on the back of the set and the people at the cable company told me exactly what to do but it still wouldn't work.  Roy called while I was trying to get it to work and he said, "Mom, call John - he'll know what to do" so I did.  I was so exasperated because he came right over and got it fixed in about two seconds.

John is doing good. I believe he has experienced some "jet lag" because when he was over he seemed really tired. He will be happy when the weather is such that he can do some bicycle riding and get the kind of exercise he needs.

Rick - are you going to coach the baseball team for Ricky this Summer? I think it is GREAT that you are such a sportsman and will help Ricky because he is a "natural".

The program for the Orem Women's Club last week was on what the State Legislature is doing. A lady who has worked with Jake Garn in Washington was the speaker and she was really good. There is so much talent in this area and they always have such good programs at these meetings.

Polly Taylor came by one afternoon last week and we had lunch together. She is such a darling woman. I don't ask but I think they would like to start a family. She drives from Salt Lake to Provo to be at the temple at 5 o'clock in the morning to work until noon. She said she was called to work in the Salt Lake Temple but she preferred the Provo Temple so they transferred her. I believe she comes down twice a week - I admire her!!!

My brother Dee called me last night. He was excited to tell me that their daughter Jaylene who lives in New York had twins about a month ago - a boy and a girl. They have 22 grand children now. Dee had some kind of heart surgery in January - he didn't go into detail but it sounded quite minor - and he says he feels a lot better. He said that whatever you did to his sinuses Bob, really helped him and he hasn't had any more problems. Dee is a very sweet and considerate man and he has a good family - 8 children.

One of my friends, Frances Anderson, took me to an art showing yesterday afternoon. It was held at the Court House in Provo and was put on by my neighbor, Hannah Oldroyd. She is unbelievable ªshe had 39 beautiful pictures for sale!!! She is 81 years old and her husband is recuperating from a stoke - he was with her yesterday and he is 86. She belongs to that luncheon club I belong to and was here a week ago. When I see the accomplishments of people like that I realize how much time I waste. She not only paints pictures, she sews for all her grandchildren, makes gorgeous flower arrangements for the church, etc. etc.!!! PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. I LOVE YOU!!!
