Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

It is so pretty outside this morning - it's getting "Fallish" weather and this is my favorite time of the year!!!

Congratulations to Barji!!! She has been accepted into the cast of the "Nutcracker Suite" (is that right?) and I am so proud of you Barji. I told her they must have chosen the prettiest girl trying out. She has tried out before and hasn't been successful so this is even more meaningful because she kept trying. She will have to practice a lot and it makes my feet hurt to even think of her in those ballet shoes but she loves it.

I'm going to the violin recital of Jessie tonight and I'm anxious to hear the quartet play. They have been practicing and will try out to be accepted into the Utah Youth Symphony Orchestra (is that right?) I think it's wonderful for all of you to be in the "mainstream" of life - you can have it all if you're willing to put forth the effort and I know you are.

John - thank you so much for "winterizing" the cabin. I talked to him last week and asked him if he mind if I called him at work one day to hurry to the cabin to drain the water if I heard a weather forecast that it was going to freeze up there. I believe that prompted his action over the weekend - Ha!!! He went up there on Saturday morning and called me from there to tell me they were draining the big water tank and he would drain all the taps in the cabin and the water heater - he also put anti-freeze in them. THAT IS A BIG RELIEF!!! He said it was beautiful up there and he enjoyed riding your four-wheeler Bob. John is doing good and is so wonderful to come home to help me when I need him.

Bob & Claire - I know you had a wonderful time in the East. I'll bet you have the opportunity to see people at these conventions that you have known before - I loved that in Daddy's business because you cultivate strong friendships. That is how we became acquainted with the Abels.

Roy & Patrice - I worried about you when I noticed the tornadoes they were having in Missouri and other states around you. This has been such an unusual "weather year". You will be going to your convention in New Orleans in a couple weeks and that will be wonderful for you. I hope you're doing great!!!

The Woolleys came over last night and Susanna & Jessie put on such a beautiful "Family Home Evening" - they always bring such a wonderful and happy spirit into my home. Ann says that by the time Sunday evening comes around she is ready to pull her hair - Sundays will always be my longest day. They were when I was younger too - I guess that's the way it's supposed to be. We watched "Murder She Wrote" and it wasn't a rerun - Ha!!!

Annie & I are going to drive into Salt Lake in the morning and meet Jeannie - we'll do "a little shopping" and then have lunch together. I'm really looking forward to it and we hope to do it once a month.

MY PORCH IS DONE!!! When the man came to lay the carpet on Thursday I told him that the plastic tar I had put on the floor was still sticky so he would have to put plastic on his shoes - I had it already for him. He said, "Oh that stuff never dries" - he walked all over it as it stuck to his shoes. I about died. It took me two hours to get it off his shoes and he put the carpet down in his stocking feet. I said, "At least the water won't leak down into the closet below" and he said, "I don't know - this isn't indoor outdoor carpet". I though, one more thing with this porch and I'll set a match to it. I called R. C. Willey and told them what he had said and told them what I had ordered. They checked and assured me it was indoor outdoor carpet. It is nice. I still have a little more painting to do but at least we can use it now.

I had such a fun time on Saturday. Marian & Malcolm called and invited me to go to the BYU football game with them. They have seats in that special "guest place" at the top of the stadium (I don't know what it is called). They came for me in a convertible and they had brought one of their sons and his friend - their son had to sit on top of the car to make room for me but he laughed about it. The General Authorities have a special place to park and then we rode an elevator up to the top. I was overwhelmed when we walked into this room - it was all set up with a beautiful luncheon buffet. The food was delicious and then all during the game they served things like nachos, popcorn, cold drinks and at the half they served peach sundaes. I will never be happy to just watch the games in a normal way again - Ha!!! The only bad thing was that we lost the game again and we should have won it - UCLA 17 - BYU 10.

I decided to apply for a clerking job at ZCMI last week. I got to thinking about the long Winter nights and decided that would be a fun thing to do. I went in for two interviews but they want me to work more hours than I want to - one of the things they had for me was to be in Fashion Jewelry adjusting watch bands and changing batteries in watches - I said "NO WAY". They had a job in the lingerie department that appealed to me but they gave that one to another woman who already works there who anted more hours. I was excited about it last week but now I am just so grateful I don't have to work and I believe I have it out of my system - I'm going to tell them to tear up my application.

I had Daddy's "Ensign" picture framed - it is beautiful. It's the one you liked Roy. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN WHAT YOU DO.
