I just read the letter I sent to you last week and the part about Paula's husband sounded really "catty" - I don't want to be that way and if I had had more room on that letter I would have said more about him. He is a geologist and he has written some articles (maybe books) but has never made money - he seems to be waiting for the "right opportunity" to come along. He must be a wonderful person to have the adoration of his wife and family and you can't "knock" that!!!
It's about noon and Chris & Wayne just left. They have been here for a week and we have had a good time but I could tell that Wayne was absolutely lost without Daddy. I kept suggesting things for him to do and offered to call Ray because I know Ray would have taken him fishing but he said he didn't want to buy a license for such a short time when he goes fishing every day on the coast. There were a lot of Pioneer Day activities going on but Chris has to stay off her foot and what can you do when you can't walk??? They did watch the big parade on television though. We went up to the Jordanelle Dam and Wayne enjoyed that because he has inspected dams in Arkansas for years. We fixed a picnic lunch and planned to find a shady spot to put a quilt down but we went past Provo canyon and after that the only place we could find was a shady place under a freeway bridge - we decided that would be a memory!!! We went to Park City and also to that big outlet mall right outside Park City.
We went to Scofield on Saturday morning and that's what they enjoy the very most. I was SO surprised to find the cabin looking so good - I had warned them that Bob had taken six children up there for overnight and then the Woolleys went up there on Friday and I told them NOT TO CLEAN. BUT someone had done a good job and it looked great. They were having a big spaghetti and lasagna dinner that night so we went to that - they were all so nice to us and we had fun.
Chris & Wayne will stay at the cabin for the rest of this week and then they are going to meet friends in California and drive up the Oregon Coast and into Canada and then maybe back by way of the Dakotas - they don't want to get home until the first of September. I won't be surprised if they come back here on their way home.
We went to church in Scofield yesterday morning and I have never seen such a crowd - they had to bring in lots of extra chairs to put along the aisles. The water is almost gone from the lake - I can't believe it!!! Wayne really loves to ride your four-wheeler Bob - he went up into the mountains Saturday evening and he said he say about a dozen deer. I told him that you said he could use it. I wish so much that all of you would go up there when and if you ever can!!! Susanna & Ron said they had a wonderful time up there on the 24th. Ann has just been called as a counselor to the Young Women's President - what a wonderful calling for her!!!
I was sick to miss the Weinerts yesterday - they had left a note telling me they had been camping and boating at Flaming Gorge. They also have a new puppy but I didn't find out what kind it was. You all know there is a key hidden in a little plastic bag in the clothes dryer vent right by our outside door - I felt bad that you couldn't get in the house!!!
I loved talking to you and Emily last week Roy - I love to hear the children in the background - they are always giggling. Patrice was on her way to church and Roy was going to babysit. They are going to Gulf Shores in August for a beach vacation - the Smiths say that is the hottest time of the year but it will be fun to play in the Gulf and relax in an air conditioned house. The Smiths had a video of Rick & Linda and their children playing on the beach and it looked wonderful!!! Wayne says if you will come when they are there he will take you "shrimping"!!!
I haven't heard from the Bob Mellors this week. I'll bet Bob is in Pinedale, Wyoming on his scouting trip. I'm anxious to hear about that because that is an absolutely gorgeous place!!!
John is in Chicago on a business trip. They are having a "Trade Show" there and ten employees from Viewpoint left late on Friday in a rented motor home. I understand they had shirts with "Viewpoint" appliquéd on them. I hope SO much that they have success in meeting prospective clients - they all really deserve it and so do Ann & Ron!!! I baked some cookies for them but I felt silly with my two little packages of cookies because the Woolleys had a BIG box of goodies to send with them. John called last night and this is what he said, "Mom, I just wanted to let you know we got here safe. We loved the cookies - I am calling from a rented car on a cellular phone so I can't talk long - Bye!!!" I was relieved to hear from him though!!! I will NEVER stop worrying about all of you.
The McKells are coming for dinner tonight. Floy called and I invited them to come and she said, "There will be six of us" - I don't who else will be coming. I'm just going to have a Stouffer's lasagna with salad and garlic bread. I will fix a squash dish also and maybe an eggplant one - I wish you could seen my eggplant - it is so much fun to watch things grow. I also bought some peaches and may make a peach pie - these are the early Elberta peaches and they are HEAVENLY!!!
Jon Theobald is out mowing my lawn - they have been in Vail, Colorado for a week. I'm going to have him do my porch too - I believe Steve Frisby has forgotten. Jon did the McEuen's porch and he did an excellent job!!! That's all the news.
