Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
A beautiful snowy day here I Orem and it's cold, cold, cold!!! I slept late this morning and I heard some scraping noise and got up to find Daddy out shoveling our walks & driveway. The deacons in our ward are assigned to do it for us but he won't give them time. I asked Dr. Brown if Daddy should restrict his activities because he has been raking a lot of leaves and then his shoulders hurt and he said to leave it up to Daddy - he said he should do anything he feels like doing and it would be good for him.
We had such a wonderful Thanksgiving - Jean & Rick and their family came early and not until about 8 o'clock did I hear them say, "We've got to go" - what a treat!!! John came upstairs about 11 o'clock and asked when we were going to eat - we didn't know for sure when the Weinerts were going to come so he called them. We were all thrilled they had already left. We saw them drive up in a few minutes and it was SO funny - they had brought sleds and snow clothes and we didn't have any snow. They had had so much snow in their area and we just got a little bit. Jeannie had made the most delicious food - pumpkin and cherry pies, fudge, green bean casserole and
broccoli & cheese. Daddy had made the dressing & sweet potatoes the day before and had put the turkey in to cook all night. Rick made the green salad after they got here. DON'T ASK ME WHAT I DID!!! We just all ate and ate and it was SO good. After dinner, the men watched football in the living room and the girls watched "Anne of Green Gables" in the den and Jeannie gave me a permanent. We really LOVED every minute of the day - the children were so happy and content to play indoors - we hated to see them leave.
We had a special treat last night too. The Woolleys dropped off LeeAnna & Jimmy at the Mellors' home in Layton when they came home from Jerome on Friday evening. The Mellors brought them back last night and then they all came over here to visit. I didn't even know the boys were here until they left - they went right downstairs to play - Susanna & Jessie watched "Murder, She Wrote" with me in the living room and the adults visited in the den. I could get used to the television set in the living room very easily - it is wonderful to have it. Our cable has been out more than it has been on the past couple days - I don't know what is the matter. We could disconnect it and just watch the local channels but it is a pain to do that and with the
TV. in the living room we don't need to. It sounds like I am a television nut and I guess I am but I only watch the good "stuff".
We should have called the Roy Mellors last night. I don't know for sure when they were supposed to come home from Connecticut. We 're anxious to hear about their trip and will call them soon.
When the children went downstairs last night I went down and turned John's furnace on. Later as they were leaving Ann & I went down to help them clean up and we could smell something weird like gas. His furnace always has an unusual smell but this was a little different. After they all left daddy & I investigated more and we decided we could smell gas. I worried about it all night and Daddy called the gas company this morning - they came immediately. They're here now and we'll feel better even if they don't find anything.
It's Annie's birthday tomorrow - we hope you have a very Happy Day. Susanna & Jessie were excited and they're old enough to make a birthday cake so we know it will be fun. Susanna's name was in the paper for the honor roll for her school - we're proud of you Susanna!!!
We're proud of Ricky too - he won the State Tennis tournament for his age and that's GREAT!!! The Weinerts are going to California in about a week for a little family vacation - the children are all "off" or "on" track and don't have school again until January.
We're proud of all our grandchildren and you don't have to win big things or be on the honor roll - we want you to just do your very best and be happy and help other people!!!
John is doing fine but we hardly ever see him - we don't know where he "hides out" but I do know he is very nervous - Ha!!! "She" will be home to Mesa tomorrow. Our friends, Ellen Mae & Mel, came by to see us one night last week and Daddy & I were just leaving to go do Daddy's home teaching. John visited them while we were gone and when we came home John left and they told us more than we have known before - they had asked him about her and he told them he would probably fly to mesa for her homecoming next Sunday, Dec. 8th. He knows that all our friends are concerned and that's hard on him but he should be able to handle that, don't you think???
Daddy's P.S.A. is 196 - that is down from 206. Dr. Brown said that isn't as good as they would have liked but it did indicate that the chemotherapy had stopped the progress of the cancer and he would recommend another "dose". SO Daddy will have it on December 20th - MERRY CHRISTMAS. He is feeling pretty good most of the time - Dr. Brown says they will radiate the bump on his head if it gets any worse.
Do you all remember the talks Daddy & I gave for the television worship service broadcast? They sent us a copy of it and Daddy is SO good - mine isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It is a wonderful keepsake for our family. It will be broadcast locally Jan. 19th and nationally Jan. 13th, 14th & 16th.
Our Home Teacher, Steve Frisby, just came by - he had seen the Mountain Fuel truck in front of our house and wondered if we needed help - they did find a leak and fixed it!!! WE LOVE YOU.
