Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
This is Thanksgiving week and we're having that kind of weather-cold and snowy!!! I worry about all of you traveling and hope you will be careful!!! It's SO wonderful to have a warm comfortable home to stay in and that's what we plan to do - the Weinerts will be with us and we're thrilled about that. Our home smells like Thanksgiving today - John's ward is having their Thanksgiving dinner tonight and they asked me to cook a turkey - it's a 22 pound one and they wanted it stuffed. It's hard to get a turkey that large really tender and moist unless it's cooked a long time at a low temperature so I'm not going to stuff it until it's almost done. They brought me stove top dressing and that doesn't have to cook anyway.
Roy & Patrice left early, early this morning for Connecticut and will stay until the weekend - I hope the weather will be good for you. It has been so much fun to talk to Emily this week - she called on Saturday morning to talk to "Monkey John". Timothy has had roseola but is better now. I have talked to Chris Jordin and she says there is a lot of flu in Little Rock - I hope you guys avoid that. It isn't too bad in Utah yet.
Ann & her children came over last night and watched "Murder, She Wrote" with us - we LOVED it!!! Ann had a Rhodes bread demonstration in her ward last week and learned how to make those delicious orange rolls and she brought us some - actually hers were lemon rolls. Ron had to do his home teaching so he didn't come. They're all excited about going to Grandpa Russ and Grandma Bevs' home for Thanksgiving - they won't be able to stay very long but we know they'll have fun.
Jean & Rick and their family are all doing fine - they REALLY wanted to have the dinner at their home but I twisted Jeannie's arm over the phone. It was funny - when I was talking to Jean, she said "Oh Mom, I feel so bad - I forgot Roy & Patrices' birthday". Last night when I was talking to Ann, she said, "Oh Mom, I feel so bad - I forgot Bob's birthday". I always remember my brothers' birthdays, Jan. 17th, but I never do anything about it - Ha!!!
I know Bob & Claire and their family are all doing fine. I hope Claire's brother Steve and his wife and children are coming from California for Thanksgiving. Claire's sister Carolyn and her husband and children live close so I know they'll be with them. Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time for the adults to be together but it is a special time for cousins to become better acquainted - I still remember my Thanksgivings in Lehi as a child with my cousins and I don't even remember what we had to eat!!! John is doing fine. His friend girl, Gayla, will be home a week from tomorrow. I don't know if he is planning a trip to Mesa soon or not. We had a sweet letter from her last week and she said she would be coming to Utah in December and would see us so maybe he is going to wait for her to come here. She has a sister in school at BYU.
Daddy is doing pretty good. We want to see Dr. Brown last Wednesday but since Daddy hadn't had his blood test taken he changed the appointment until tomorrow - he went to the lab for blood work instead. He didn't want to stay for all the meetings yesterday at church so we came home early. His best time is in the morning - right now he is out ranking some more leaves and one day last week he climbed up on the roof to put up the Christmas lights. The bump on top of his head alarms me and he says it hurts to touch it - we're hoping they will be able to radiate that. Last night his shoulders ached so he took a
Percocet and that's unusual. Dr. Brown didn't have him have a bone scan and that surprised me.
We are enjoying our new television set. Daddy called the repair man and had him come look at our old one and they came and got it and took it in to fix it. They only had it one day and returned it and said it was an excellent
TV. so now we have that one in our living room. I probably jumped the gun in getting a new one but we'll take the old one to the cabin in the Spring and it will be good to have a good one up there.
The BUY-U of U game on Saturday was SO good. The University of Utah team scored 10 points in the first few minutes of the game and we thought it was going to be one of those weird upsets but BYU finally got their act together and won it 17-48. Ty Detmer, the Heisman trophy winner, played his last game at BYU and we thought he was just spectacular. They'll play Iowa in the Holiday Bowl and are not expected to win. I just love sports - I'm more of a
sports fan than anyone else in our family I think.
I can't remember if I have ever written about the Woolleys getting a little dog. They bought a pure bred "schi tsu" or something like that and I believe it is in the Pekinese family and it is just darling. They are going to make it a house dog and right now its home is Ron's bathroom. It is such a tiny little thing that it couldn't do very much damage no matter where it went but they want to train it and that's good. It's brown and white and has the cutest little face. We want them to leave him with us while they go to Idaho but they want to take him with them. They found homes for all their cats so now they're in the dog business.
That's all the news. We love each one of you so very much. Please Be Very Careful In Everything You Do and let us know how we can help you!!!
