Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
We're having a rainy, snowy wintry day!!! I love it and it's so comfortable in our warm home that we should never complain.
We had such a fun day a Saturday. Bob called Friday evening and said he was coming down - I expected him to announce that he would have to leave after he was here for a little while but he stayed the whole day and we loved it!!! He looked like a war
causality though - he had had some cosmetic surgery on one of his ears and his entire head was bandaged. He kept telling us that he felt fine but he looked weary under his bandages. He could take his bandage off yesterday and we hope he is feeling good by now. Thank you Claire for "holding the fort down" while he spent the day with us - I remember how valuable those Saturdays with a young family and SO many things to do!!!
Emily - thank you for calling us yesterday!!! I could tell who was on the other end of the line when Daddy answered the phone. She really had a story to tell - she was going to go to the playground so she couldn't talk for very long - Patrice told us she was playing "make believe". She is SO fun to talk to. I hope little Timothy gets over his little illnesses soon - even though they aren't serious it is so darn hard to have a fussy baby - they completely consume you!!! We're thrilled that you are going to Grandma
Susie's for Thanksgiving - how exciting for your Mom to see the children again and for Liz to see Timothy for the first time. We hope you have a WONDERFUL time!!!
We have talked to Ann this week and they're doing fine - Ron has been traveling all over the place - Detroit and then to California - I believe he comes home today. It's so much fun to drop in and see them like we did on Wednesday - we were on our way to the temple. Susanna had a darling sweater on and when I told her how pretty it was, she said, "Oh, it's my mothers". It's hard for me to believe our grandchildren are growing up. Ann goes in a million different directions all the time - she was helping give a wedding shower that night - in fact, she was fixing all the food!!!
We haven't talked to the Weinerts this week but Bob had seen them and he said they are doing fine too. We're looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with them - the Bob Mellors will be spending it with the Ezells, and Ann says they may go to Jerome to be with the Woolleys. Jean - we would love to have you all come here and just have an old fashioned "over the hills and through the woods to Grandmother's house they go" Thanksgiving. Think it over and we'll talk later on.
John is doing good. I fixed a big pork roast yesterday (he loves that kind of roast) and even made an apple pie and guess what - he was invited to eat with friends at school so he didn't come home after church. I REALLY don't blame him one bit but he'll have to eat left overs tonight - I absolutely refuse to waste food and he knows it!!! Daddy & John both say I cook too much so I'm going to try to mend my ways - Ha!!!
Daddy & I did drive to the cabin last Monday and everything is fine up there too. "SOMETHING" is eating our trap food but the trap failed to catch it - Daddy said it needed a little adjustment and he put more bait in it (actually, I went to the little store there and bought some bologna). Daddy thought he could smell another skunk but I couldn't. It was beautiful up there - the upstairs room is so nice and warm but the downstairs is frigid!!! The sun coming through the windows upstairs really gets that warm. The lake is so low it is hardly a lake anymore and there are still all those dead fish on the banks - we're hoping for lots of snow and rain there this Winter.
The UVCC (the community college that is in our backyard) has built the President's home just a few doors East of us. They had a brunch open house on Saturday morning and invited all the neighbors - it was really nice and the home is just beautiful and so functional for entertaining. They have a college age son (he is going to BYU) who was hurt in a water accident and is paraplegic - it was interesting to see the facilities built into the home to accommodate the handicapped.
I went someplace every single day last week - luncheons, Relief Society Work meeting, visiting teaching, etc., etc. This week is going to be that way too - it's surprising to see how busy we can get if we want to. Daddy is doing pretty good. He gets really tired easily but he keeps going - my visiting teachers came to visit last Friday and while they were here he completely raked all the leaves in the backyard. He has gone to the store now to see if he can find some of that webbing to re-web our lawn chairs - I told him that was a Summer project but he wants to do it now. He was worried about how his hair looked so he went to the barber one day last week to get the back trimmed - WELL - when he came out to the car I about died. The barber said it would come in better that way. He has a wonderful attitude and tells everyone he is hoping it comes in black and curly!!!
We bought a little entertainment center and a new television set. Daddy really enjoys sitting in his chair and watching some programs - our Curtis Mathes hasn't been used all that much even though it's about 12 years old but the picture is so faded that you can hardly see it. We bought an RCA - it should come today. Our den is SO small we had a hard time finding something that wouldn't overpower the room but I think this one will work out good. Did you all see the BYU-San Diego game? We went to bed when the score was 17-45 for SD - it ended up a 52 tie!!!
