Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

I just told Daddy that I didn't have enough news to fill a page but I do have a good Fall recipe for you so I'll write my letter anyway.

We had a really fun time on Friday night. Ann & Ron came over and picked up Daddy & John & me and then they drove to Layton where they picked up Bob & Claire. We all went to Maddox in Willard where we had a delicious dinner. When I was growing up this "little" Maddox restaurant was famous for their hamburgers, fried chicken and banana cream pies. They grow their own beef - in fact, their restaurant is built on the highway just above their cattleyard. Now it is very famous here in Utah and people drive from all over to go there. It was a very stormy night and I was glad Ron was driving and not Daddy - the roads on Highway 89 were quite slippery. I met a lady in the restroom who had driven in from Logan SO you know it has to be good. We just absolutely loved it and we visited and visited at our table after dinner - we hoped that no one was waiting for our table!!! We think Ron made such a classic statement as we were heading for our car - he said, "I know of a good place in Boise where we could go to eat next time", Ha!!! We decided to meet in Salt Lake or at a half way point for all of us the next time!!!

We missed having Roy & Patrice and Rick & Jean with us. Rick & Jean left on the "Red Eye Express" on Halloween night to go to the Virgin Islands for a little vacation. They were supposed to come home last night but we haven't heard from them. We're anxious to hear all about their trip - how exciting!!! They had a young couple come stay with their children.

We had a fun Halloween and hope you all did too - I know that Michael did. He was SO cute as he showed me his cache of candy he had hidden. We passed out our treats until about 8:30 and then we wanted to watch the BYU-Colorado State football game uninterrupted so we put the candy on a bench on our front porch with a note for them to take "a" treat - needless to say it was all gone within a few minutes!!!

Daddy has his good days and his bad days. He had a lump on the top of his head that he says hurts but he doesn't take any pain medication. We go to Dr. Brown in another week.

We're waiting for Ellen Mae & Mel to come see us. We're all going out for lunch with some old "Aggie" friends - one of whom I haven't seen for 45 years. Gene & Wayne Rick are coming too and they are such a lot of fun (Gene is Ellen Mae's sister and she & Wayne live in Logan). We'll have fun just reminiscing!! Planned to care for Jimmy & Russell and also to be home when his folks from Idaho were visiting. At the last minutes he had to go out of town and wouldn't get home until about 11 o'clock that of "Cats" so Ann could go home and we could take them to the City Rep. We had about two hours to kill before going to City Rep. so we all went to Smith's Food Festival at the Salt Palace. It was just huge with every kind of food possible being displayed and offered to the public to taste. Many people stood in lines to get the food but we just went to the booths that weren't crowded and by the time we had seen everything we were all full. They also had a man demonstrating yo yos and that was fun to watch. I had to laugh at what LeeAnna said about it - she told her mother that it was just like tricking and treating at Halloween - they gave you a plastic grocery bag as you went in and then you filled it like you would a trick or treat bag.

We met Jeannie & her girls at City Rep. and we just loved the show. They are all so well done and this was no exception - it was really scary and little Sarah sat between Jean & me. She surely caught on quickly - it hadn't gone on very long until she turned to me and said, "The ghost is supposed to be scaring the children and they're scaring it".

Ann & Ron invited Daddy & me to come for dinner on Saturday night. Ron's parents were there and I didn't think we should barge in on them - it seems to me that every time they come we go up there too. Ann was too sweet to resist SO we ended up going and just had a wonderful time. Ann's dinner was just delicious and she had made the recipe I sent in my last letter and it was better than when I tasted it before and she had added more brown sugar to it so remember that - they had rented the video "Robinhood" with Kevin Costner and we really enjoyed it. The children and Ron's mother thought it was too violent and Mimi kept leaving the room - I told them I thought they should watch it over again because they could understand the story better when they weren't so shocked at the violence and it was really a beautiful story.

I mentioned in my last letter that we were meeting old "Aggie" friends for dinner that night. I don't remember when we have had a better time - we just laughed from the beginning to the end. The woman I was so anxious to see again was just darling - she has white hair and it used to be dark and we would never have recognized each other but we still remembered the things we did together. Her husband taught at Purdue University for thirty years and they have retired and bought a home up by the temple in Provo. Ellen Mae & Mel, Gene & Wayne, and Doris Ann & Shirl were all there and they're such good, good friends. Ellen Mae, Gane & Doris Ann & I all grew up together in Brigham City. I'm going to a medical auxiliary luncheon with Doris Ann on Wednesday - her son-in-law is a doctor here in Provo - that will be fun!!!

We love each one of you so very much and we're SO proud of you!!!
