Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

Wow!!! We have had a week of Wintry weather - it's supposed to get in the 60's today but I doubt that it will. We have wanted moisture and really need it but we didn't think it would come in the form of snow and cold temperatures. Many people we know had planted their tomatoes and of course they were frozen - the last report was that the fruit here didn't get hurt and that's good. I guess there won't be any peaches through because of the frost in December - I would not like to be a fruit farmer!!!

Jeannie - Happy Birthday tomorrow - I believe this is the one that doesn't change from now on - Ha!!! We talked to Bob last night and he said your families had been together at the park yesterday and you were all doing good. Has Wayne had his pig roast yet? (Their fried and our investment broker was planning a pig roast and had called Daddy to have him tell him how we did it in Billings). I hope it turned out good!!!

Bob & Claire and their family are doing good - we can tell from talking to Bob that he is getting anxious to do some WARM camping and outdoor stuff. He takes his scouts out quite often but most of the time it has been cold and at this time of year that is getting really old!!! John has really appreciated your interest in him and his test!!!

Patrice - thank you for your letter. We are SO thrilled that you have had your patio fixed because that is where you will practically live until Winter. We just love your home and yard and it is ideal for little Emily & Timothy. We hope you will take a picture of it and sent to us. We think a little vegetable garden in place of those shrubs is a great idea too!!!

Ann went to San Francisco with Ron, Wednesday through Friday and they had a good time. Daddy & I went to their home on Wednesday afternoon to take Jessie's birthday gift to her and just as we got there they were trying to get into their home - they thought they were locked out so we all sat in the car for a few minutes until they tried to find an unlocked door and they finally did. Their baby sitter had borrowed the Woolley's car and had locked it when she went into her apartment to get some of her things and when she went into her apartment to get some of her things and when she went to leave the discovered she didn't have the key that unlocks the car doors (Ann never locks her car so she hadn't given it to her). She had Jimmy with her and we were all kinda' concerned because she is so dependable and would never have left the older children without telling them where she was. Anyway - it all worked out okay - she got one of her roommates to take her to the Woolleys and Susanna knew where there was an extra key. They love their babysitter and she is SO good to them!!!

While we were at the Woolleys, Bob & Brett came to see us. We only missed them by about fifteen minutes but we felt SO bad. We really appreciate those little visits and would stay home from anything if we know you're coming.

John had his DAT on Saturday - it was six hours long. He said there were about 80 people taking it and it was really hard. He felt good about the math and other parts of it that he had taken classes in but the organic chemistry and biology were harder for him. It won't be too bad if he has to wait another year to get accepted but I guess he would be disappointed. He will be in finals next week so he is still studying mighty hard. He is really wonderful to have around home - so even tempered and a wonderful disposition!!!

Daddy is going to the dermatologist in a few minutes. That rash on top of his head just won't go away. Daddy has always had really sensitive skin with a lot of skin cancers so he isn't worried but is anxious to get it cleared up. He has had a toothache for the past few days and is scheduled for a root canal in the morning - Chris Crawford is going to do it. We went into Salt Lake last Tuesday for his appointment with Dr. Middleton and he is always so positive and optimistic - we should get the results from the PSA test that he took in a few days. I always hate to hear those results. Daddy has to feel good though to do the things he does - he & Ray are looking into buying a little houseboat that is for sale in Lehi - they say it would be perfect for Utah lake. I'm sure they will "just look" but I think it's really good to want to do those things.

We just got back from the dermatologist and I should just rewrite that last paragraph. DADDY HAS SHINGLES!!! The doctor isn't absolutely positive but that is what he is going to treat him for. I didn't think anyone ever got them on their faces but I guess they do. Can you hear Daddy say "Oh, what the h---!"

Daddy & I went to our Family Home Evening last Monday and what a fun party. It was at Helen & Gordon McEuen's home and Helen's four sisters were there - they are all between 80 and 90 and it was just hilarious. I am really envious though of people who have sisters and this group of sisters is really close.

Daddy & I are preparing for our television debut next Saturday and I do believe that will be the hardest thing we have ever been asked to do. We had to go into Salt Lake to the Church Office Building for an orientation and to show you how rebellious we are, Daddy was dressed in blue jeans and cowboy boots and he didn't even care. We have to speak to a live audience of about 300 hundred people and we have to be very generic - they don't want us to be dated in any way and if we quote anyone it has to be cleared because of copyright laws. I doubt ours will ever make it to national television and it will be kinda' nice because they will give us a copy of the video they take so we shouldn't be so funny about it!!! We love you all so very much.
