Dearest John; Roy, Patrice, Emily & Timothy; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
It's Tuesday afternoon and Daddy asked me what I was going to do - I said, "I'm going to go write my letter" and he said, "You mean it's Tuesday and you haven't written that yet". Actually, I forgot about it - ugh!!! I have been writing on Christmas cards all morning and just forgot!!!
We received your sweet letter today Claire. We loved your last letter too Patrice - especially, the salutation, "Hi Y' all" - you have become Southern - Ha!!! We like to touch base with each one of you one way or another and appreciate your letters. The Woolleys and Weinerts are home from Florida and they had wonderful times - we talked to them yesterday. Little Sarah was so excited as she told us all about Disney World - Jeannie said she has never seen so many Disney characters as there were this time. They got to spend some time with one of Rick's uncles whom Jeannie had never met and also the Aunt & Uncle who have visited them here in Utah. Ann said it had turned cold by the time they got there and they had to buy sweat shirts to keep warm. Ann was REALLY impressed with the baby sitters they had - the children were so happy and everything was well taken care of.
John is super busy. He took the test on Saturday that students take if they want to go on for advanced degrees - he told us some of the questions and it sounded quite like an I.Q. test to me and I would never be able to pass it.
Tonight is our Relief Society annual home tour Christmas party. I have asked Ann & Jean to come go with me - I hope they will but will understand if they can't make it since they have just come home from long vacations. Jeannie said last night they don't even have their Christmas lights up yet - our have been up since the last of November. WE JUST LOVE THE LIGHTS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD - people have outdone themselves and it is as pretty as temple square. There is a constant stream of cars coming through to see the homes. We are going to visit five homes tonight and they are right close to our home so it will be easy and fun. We just love our little tree in our den - it is nothing to compare with those we will see in the tour tonight but it is perfect for us.
It is fun to receive Christmas cards from friends we have known for so many years. We received one yesterday from Don & Joan Corbitt from Texas - they are serving an office mission in the Corpus Christi Mission and just love it.
Daddy & I went to the Genealogy library up in Salt Lake last Friday and spent about four hours looking for some information on "Hugh Mellor" who lived in the early 1600's. It took us a long time to locate a source where we might find the information but the source was on micro
fiche (sp.?) and it was in cursive writing and almost impossible to read. It is SO exciting to see all the information they have from that long ago. We also spent all morning on Monday at the genealogy library where we are assigned. When we get time after the holidays I want to summit more current information on our own family line to get it up to date - there is a lot on the computers at BYU but they don't have any of the marriages of our children.
We were pleased to have Jeannie tell us last night that they were able to receive a lot of genealogy from Rick's side of the family while they were in Florida. We need to have Claire & Patrice get as much information as they can on their families so we will have it on our records.
Daddy & I went to the Messiah presented in Pleasant Grove on Sunday night and it was just excellent. When we first came home from our mission and were still living in Lehi we went to American Fork to hear it. It was conducted by Leon Honey and we knew the Honeys many years ago when they lived in Phoenix. This one in Pleasant Grove was conducted by him too and we went back stage to visit with him & his wife after the program. That was fun - do any of you remember them in Phoenix? They are lovely people - they had 8 children and they live in Orem now and Sister Honey works at UVCC. Leon teaches music somewhere in the valley.
Daddy called to get the report from his last blood test - I wanted him to wait until after Christmas but he wanted to know. His PSA is up to 23.5 from the last reading of 15 which isn't good but it isn't real bad either. Dr. Brown may want to start radiation in January because he told us the last time we were to see him that sometimes the radiation brings that PSA down. His cholesterol is very good - 250 - down from 295 and the LDL is really good - I can't remember the numbers right now. He feels good and has planned a fishing trip to the Southern part of the State for this weekend with Ray.
The Carbon County sheriff called us yesterday to tell us some of the cabins at Scofield had been broken into. Ours was NOT one of them but Daddy wants to go check on it anyway. The sheriff said they set fire to Tony Rudman's cabin - that's the man who owns all of that area and his cabin (house) is on top of the hill. He didn't do a lot of damage because they couldn't get it to burn. We don't know what other cabins were broken into. Ours is in a pretty safe place because of the big light right by it. Daddy will do some ice fishing while we are there - they report on television that it is really good now.
We went to Lehi yesterday for a "water rights" meeting - it was interesting. We own the water rights on the property where Aunt Marvel's home was - the well was dug in 1900. We visited Broadbent's store and it is DARLING. We love each one of you!!!
