Dearest John; Roy & Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

We are loving this gorgeous Fall weather. Utah is really having a drought though and it's getting kinda' scary. They have closed all the marinas at Utah Lake because they say if there is an emergency they wouldn't be able to get their rescue equipment on the lake because of the low water. We took pictures at Scofield showing the low water there. SURELY we will have a lot of snow this Winter to fill everything up. They announced on television last week that the temperatures were going to get in the 20's and we were to bring in the garden hoses and drain the evaporative coolers. I called Sears because we have a contract with them to winterize our cooler but they said they couldn't come until this Wednesday - they said to unhook the pipe from the drain in the bathroom and drain that much anyway. WELL - I don't believe the temperatures even got below 35.

Roy & Patrice - WE ARE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING A PHONE CALL!!! We are REALLY excited and can hardly wait to hear. (Roy called on Friday and said they were pretty sure the baby would be born within the next two weeks). We think you're smart to stay in your apartment and move into your home gradually!!! Every time I see a little baby I want to hold it and I hope so much that we will be able to be with you soon.

Daddy awakened last Tuesday morning with a bad pain in his ribs. That was the morning he was leave for his elk hunt and he really didn't know what to do. He finally decided to make a bed in the van and take that so he could come home if he had to and not ruin the trip for his hunting buddies. He also took some Percocet and we rubbed that "deep heat" ointment on him and bound him up with an elastic "cincher". I was so worried that he would be home within just a few hours but he was able to stay until they got their elk and he said he felt pretty good. He really thought it was muscle strain from doing some brick work in our back yard and helping to move the dock at Scofield.

He has felt really good the past few days - he has taken it easy and rested. Last night though I guess he was in real pain. I didn't hear him get up but when I woke up about 6 o'clock I found him in the den in his chair sound asleep. He called Dr. Brown early and he has scheduled him for a bone scan on Wednesday morning and then an appointment right after. It looks like he might be in for some radiation treatments. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. He went to church yesterday, we're going to do our genealogy work this afternoon and right now he is out shopping for some mounting wood for his elk horns!!! I am SO proud of him - he absolutely will not stop working!!! I feel bad that he did all that cement work in the backyard and also built the swing but if he hadn't done that he would have done something else!!!

We're anxious to hear how the Woolleys' trip was. Ron's secretary called the day they left and wanted to know where they were staying - she couldn't believe we didn't know. I gave her Jeannie's phone number because Ann & Jean had been together the day before and I thought maybe Ann may have told her - I didn't ever hear if she did or not. Jeannie taught a nutrition class for her friend who teaches at BYU and after the class she went to Ann's for lunch.

Daddy got his elk all cut up and brought home a box of elk steaks. We didn't have any room at all in our freezer so we helped ourselves to the Woolleys' freezer - I don't know what we would have done if their freezer had been full. Thank you Woolleys - we want you to try some of the steaks!!! John & Lynn love them. We will also get some sausage they are having made from the meat combined with some pork. The elk was really big and Daddy had a wonderful trip - the two men he went with, Ray Edwards and Bob Doyle from Lehi, are super guys and wouldn't let Daddy do any of the lifting or hard work.

We loved our visit with you on the phone last night Bob. (John had gone to Bobs to get the duck decoys on Saturday night but Bob was on a trip with the Boy scouts in his ward - they went to Zion's canyon.) John visited with Claire and then went to visit with Jeannie. Bob said they had a great trip and the weather was beautiful. The Weinerts are doing fine too - John said that Rick & Ricky had gone someplace but I don't believe he told us where. We loved our visit with you too Jeannie and especially talking to little Mary Ann who had called us on her birthday.

John went duck hunting on Saturday morning and had such a good time. He didn't get a duck stamp so he didn't even take his gun - he just went to call them in for his friends - Ha!!! Daddy is going to get both of them duck stamps and they plan to go out some time this week. It is also deer hunting time and Ray keeps calling to get Daddy to go with him. It really brings back memories to hear John go through the house with his duck caller - do you all remember how that went on for weeks in the Fall when we were in Arkansas? They hunt South of Utah Lake.

I have been trying to let my hair color go natural but I have just about decided to go back to coloring it. I was hoping it would be a pretty gray color instead it is a "----brindle brown". I don't even know if there is such a color but I remember my mother complaining about her hair being that color and she hated it and of course, in those days they didn't have hair coloring. Hair is such a nuisance!!!

I forgot to mention in my last week's letter that the Weinerts' do, Cocoa died. We really feel bad about that - he was such a good dog and we all loved him - especially Rick!!! They had just had him "de-barked" about two weeks before and then he got sick - the veterinarian said he thought he had been bitten by black widow spider - they had him on a respirator all day. SORRY!!!
