Dearest John; Roy, Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

I just came home from a funeral for one of the men in our Family Home Evening Group (geriatric group). I'm sure you remember us talking about this man - he was the oldest one - he would have been 79 in December. He and his wife tried to out talk each other but we loved him and will miss him. He had a heart pacer put in about six months ago and really hasn't been well since. I was supposed to pick up his wife to take to that luncheon last Tuesday and she called me at the last minute to say she was taking her husband to Salt Lake to the doctor - she was going to try to talk him into a prostate surgery that he really needed. As it turned out, he didn't have a choice and their nephew did the surgery and it went very well and after it was over he just dead. There names are Jim and Mary Knecht and they have six sons - four live in Utah and two back East. The funeral was very nice - their nephew is the presiding Bishop of the church - Robert Hales - and he spoke.

I had to take those glorified potatoes for the dinner after the funeral and my time got away from me this morning and you should have seen this house when I left - I really miss Daddy cleaning up after me!!! He went elk hunting on Friday and I don't know when he will be home - I hope so much that he is having a wonderful time and they'll stay as long as they want to. There were about six men going - they only have one permit left but they all wanted to go. I wish I could get that excited about doing something - Daddy just absolutely loves to hunt and fish. The last thing he said to me as he was leaving was "Let's go to Deer Creek and go fishing when I get home". He has heard they are catching some big bass up there!!! Daddy doesn't even know that Jim died - he died the morning Daddy left to go hunting.

Roy - it was fun to talk to you on Saturday!!! We're SO thrilled that you have bought your home - it sounds just perfect and we're anxious to see it. It looks now like we will be going to Little Rock around the first of November. I told Roy that I would really like for Daddy to be able to go deer hunting with Bob & John - the deer hunt starts October 15th. When he heard that he suggested that we not come until November - Daddy would never have told him he wanted to go on the deer hunt!!! If it turns out that you need us before then - the deer hunt will take second place and we'll love to come. Suzie is going to try to go be with them the last week in October - if the baby isn't born that week she'll help them with some of their moving. Babies come when they're good and ready and we want you to know we're available ANYTIME. You guys have the most exciting life - a new job, a new home and a new baby!!! Little Emily is going to have some adjusting to do but she will be just fine - I'm glad you don't know if it's a boy or girl.

We have talked to Bob since my last letter and they're doing fine. He says he is anxious for a day or so that he can go spend time in the cabin - I look for them to go hunting in the Scofield area and use the cabin as a base. They are very busy!!! I surely hope you will be able to take a few days off for the deer hunt Bob.

Annie called on Saturday - she was "knee deep" in preparations for their Ward Primary Program that was put on on Sunday. I haven't talked to her since but I know it went well. Ours was last Sunday too and I always wonder why so much preparation is put into those - they almost seem unrehearsed - SORRY!!! Ours was just darling and everyone loved it but it was far from a polished program.

Jeannie called too but I can't remember when. They are really busy too and I'll bet their Primary Program was on Sunday. She said they were planning to bring Mary Ann down to stay with us for a couple weeks after she gets her mouthpiece put in - SHE WAS JUST KIDDING!!! Thank goodness - Ha!!! Mary Ann turns 8 years old on Oct. 10th - when will her baptism be? I was worried that we might be in Little Rock but now it looks like we'll be here.

John is really doing good - he has developed some good study habits - I'm sure it's because he is enjoying his classes more. I am amazed at how "handy" he is - I took our glue gun apart the other night and worked for a long time to put it back together and couldn't and it took him about one minute. I'm not the "handiest" person around but I did take off the dog's door going into the garage and managed to put that back together.

Daddy and I drove into Salt Lake two days last week to meet Chris at the airport - I got mixed up and went on Wednesday and she wasn't due until Thursday. I AM REALLY GETTING OLD!!! I couldn't believe it - I had her paged and everything and then they checked the passenger list for Thursday and the lady said, "Honey, your friend comes in tomorrow". It was so good to see her - we took her to the Mormon Handicraft shop and she enjoyed that and so did it. I bought a book that shows how to make a Halloween witch from a rag mop - I have already made a little doll from one and they're just darling. We walked around the temple grounds and she was just amazed at the beautiful flowers.

I went to do genealogy work yesterday afternoon - it is really complicated and not very interesting yet. We stay four hours and it just completely wears me out. Ramon & Winston couldn't go yesterday because their pears were ready to bottle and of course Daddy was gone so I was by myself with Sister Fletcher and she scares me to death. She has been doing it for twenty years and can see in a minute what it takes me to see in an hour!!! I don't believe we would have named you Robert, Bob, if we had known how many Robert Mellors there are - yesterday I was extracting records in the 1500s. Robert Mellor was the first mayor in a city of Mellor in Derbyshire, England!!! Impressed???
