Daddy & I just came home from Daddy's doctor appointment. They had called on Friday to remind us of the appointment and we waited in his office for about an hour and then they told us he didn't need to see him but just needed for him to have another blood test. Dr. Brown showed him the results from the tests that were taken on June 28th and the PSA (Prostate Special Androgen) showed an increase from 12.0 in April to 13.0 in June - Dr. Brown didn't seem concerned but said it was important to have the tests taken again and come back in September for the results. Daddy looks SO god and feels really good too - so he's doing A-Okay!!!
We have had a WONDERFUL weekend at the cabin celebrating Daddy's 70th birthday - WOW, I can't believe we're getting that old - Ha!!! Daddy & I went on Friday morning and we did some cleaning, fishing, crawdadding, etc. and we were just waiting to watch the 10 o'clock news when we heard some knocking at our door - WOW, were we ever surprised to see the Weinert family!!! We WERE SO THRILLED!!! Just about five minutes before they got there Daddy had said, "Don't we have anything sweet to eat with a "cup of Joe" and of course, we didn't have. Jeannie brought in a big pan of brownies and of course, they were most welcome!!! I had just brushed my teeth so I didn't have any but I dreamt about them all night and had one for breakfast the next morning.
Jeannie kept saying, "Mom, we have come to help" but I don't think she really knew what she was getting into. She worked from the time she got there until they left. I had cleaned the upstairs but wanted to wash all the windows downstairs and she cleaned all the light fixtures and the cabin looked so pretty. We have SO many of those little midgy bugs that get everywhere and then the birds leave their markings all over.
We had assignments for everyone and I ended up just "flitting" around making sure everyone was doing his job and I couldn't put a finger on anything I had done except make a fruit salad that absolutely
no one liked "frog eye salad". I WON'T MAKE THAT AGAIN. Rick's assignment was corn and it was delicious - we had never "soaked" it in water before wrapping it in foil to cook on the grill but that's the way to do it. Daddy cooked the hamburgers and they were also delicious.
Ann & Ron and John were in charge of Dutch Oven cakes and I have never tasted anything any better and they were just beautiful - the Woolleys made pineapple upside down cakes and John made a peach cobbler. I felt bad because I had forgotten to bring birthday candles - we put 70 toothpicks on them but couldn't light them fast enough to keep them all lit because it was windy.
We had invited Ramona & Winston, Elaine & Earl, Shirley & Glen and Carol & Elly. Elaine had called to tell us they couldn't come and we knew that Carol & Elly were in California but I had given Ramona & Winston directions on how to get there and they said they would be there by 3 o'clock. We waited until about 5 o'clock and had given up on them when they & Shirley & Glen drove up - they had been lost!!! We just had a marvelous time - we didn't have rain or the bugs but we did have wind that we don't usually have.
WE REALLY MISSED Bob & Claire and their family and Roy, Patrice & Emily but I just can't describe in words how much we appreciate the support and love you all gave us. We all spent the night and early Sunday morning Ann & John left to come back home - Ann had Primary responsibilities she couldn't get out of and John needed to go to his own ward. The rest of us all went to the little church in Scofield and Daddy & I were SO proud of our family - especially our grandchildren. They WERE the Primary and we could hear them singing in our own meetings and one of the men mentioned in his testimony how that was the best he had ever heard the Primary sing. As we were leaving the church, the lady who is the Primary President said to us "Boy, you really have something there" and we agree!!!
After church we went back to the cabin and had lunch - we had fixed spaghetti and then we ate up some of the leftovers. Daddy had caught some fish and he cooked them on the grill and also about a dozen crawdads - the children didn't want to even taste any of them - Ha!!! Ron took all the children on the four-wheelers while Rick, Jean, Daddy & I cleaned up the cabin - it worked really neat and we were all ready to leave about 4 o'clock. Jeannie had fixed lemonade and brownies for the children for when they came home from four-wheeling and she met them at the cabin door and told them it was all clean and they couldn't come in - I kinda' felt like we were saying, "Here's your hat but please don't go" but they understood - I HOPE!!!
Daddy & I went to the temple last Thursday and we recognized the couple sitting in front of us - Dick & Jean Pearson from Pinnacle. He is hospital administrator at the University hospital in Little Rock and really a nice man - they asked about you Roy. They have a big family and had just moved to Arkansas about the year before we left. Dan & Dorothy called last night to wish Daddy a Happy Birthday and they said they had really enjoyed your visit with them - they're such sweet friends. Terry has moved back to Little Rock and works as a counselor somewhere around Loanoke.
Laura will be 7 years old this Thursday - we hope you have a really Happy Birthday Laura. Bob & Claire - we hope you have had some fun little camping trips and also that you will be able to go to the cabin for a weekend soon.
I really shouldn't start another page but I want to tell you about Jean & Rick going to Little Rock. This weekend is Jeannie's 20th High School reunion and they're really having a big affair. They will go to dinner at Cajun's Wharf on Friday night, have an assembly at Hall High on Saturday and then swim at the Racquet Club Saturday night. They leave Salt Lake at 9 o'clock Friday morning and come home Sunday afternoon. Daddy & I are going to go stay with their children. Some of you may remember Jeannie's friend, Pam Olinghouse - Pam called Jeannie and she is going to go also - won't they have fun??? Pam lives in North Dakota now and has two children. I believe I am as excited as Jean is and Rick promised me he would take some paper to write down the names of the former students attending- Jeannie won't remember - Ha!!! They are going to stay at the Holiday Inn in North Little Rock. Jean has also promised me she would go see the woods and the Jordins and of course, they want to spend some time with Roy & Patrice & Emily.
We're worried about little Frauie - she hasn't come in heat yet and it is time. We looked in our Schnauzer book and it says the time can be a month and a half early or late so she still has a couple more weeks. I'll be so disappointed if we don't have puppies sometime. John has learned how to trim the dogs now and he does a really good job.
John is writing a paper for an English class about the pros & cons of using animals for medical research. He has certainly done a lot of research into this subject and has learned a lot. I know he will be glad when this Semester is over - the classes are really accelerated and he is working hard!!!
Ron is working hard on building his fence and we're anxious to go see it. He has it done along the East side of their home and across their bay window. We have taken so many of his weekends and this next weekend his family will have their reunion in Yellowstone Park so he has to work on it when he can during the week.
Roy & Patrice - have you found any homes you're REALLY interested in yet??? Dorothy & Dan said it was still a "buyer's market" in Little Rock.
That's REALLY all the news. We love each on one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Let us know how we can help you.
