We are enjoying some really nice, cool weather - it looks like it might rain. We are surely having a wonderful Summer - I have really never been TOO warm yet.
Daddy & I spent last Wednesday up in Salt Lake. We went to the Federal Reserve Bank for information about treasury bills - we have a friend who goes up there every Monday morning on the bus to get his information and he told us that was the best way to do it. We've had quite a bit of cash in a Prudential Bache fund and it gets good interest but it is subject to both Federal and State income tax - the treasury bills are not taxed by the State so we plan to move it into those bills. They are SAFE and that is very important to us.
Thursday we left early and drove to the cabin and stayed until Saturday. I really "goofed off" - I did not do one worthwhile thing - I just read and rested. Daddy re-painted the roof of the cabin where the birds had messed, he trimmed bushes, cut firewood and fished - he also made another crawdad cage!!! He didn't catch any fish for a day or so, so he baited the crawdad cage with some chicken and dogfood but they didn't go for that too much. He finally caught some fish and baited them with the fish head and insides - he left the cages in the water by the dock and it will be interesting to see if we have caught any when we go back. That is such a fun place to go now that there isn't a lot of work to do - I will take my rug to work on the next time we go though so I won't feel quite so lazy.
As we were leaving Scofield, Daddy noticed some cement trucks in that gravel yard so he went to talk to them about pouring some cement for us. It is very reasonable for up there so Daddy is going to make some forms for a driveway and walkway into the cabin and do away with those cement blocks. Now he has another project!!!
We are excited about going up this weekend for Daddy's birthday. We're disappointed that Bob & Claire and their family won't be able to be with us though - Bob is on call this weekend. We knew that Roy & Patrice & Emily wouldn't be able to come and we'll miss all of you. We talked to Ann & Jean yesterday and they plan to be there about 3 o'clock and then stay Saturday night and go to church in Scofield. We haven't heard from Daddy's sisters yet but some of them will come for Saturday, I know!!! It will be fun to just be together. I kept telling Ann that it was the kind of place where "you had to make your own fun" and she told me last night that she had told her family that her Mother had lectured her that way - Ha!!! It really is though - you just have to "shift gears" from your normal schedules!!!
I have been visiting teaching this morning - it was my turn to make the appointments this month and I left it until the very last minute. We have a sister to visit who works so we had to visit her yesterday along with another one and then again this morning. I laugh about how it takes me longer to do my visiting teaching here than it did in Little Rock where we used to drive clear out into the country.
John is doing really good!!! He does such a good job of caring for our home and yard while we're gone and his friends are here a lot - one of his former roommates & his brother spent the night with him while we were gone. He had a letter from Hermana Garn and she loved her candy - she has another month at the MTC. He spends a lot of time studying and loves his classes (except the religion ones - Ha). I believe this semester is over in a couple weeks and then the Fall one starts. I'll be glad when UVCC starts again - I love to watch the students as they park in the lot across from us. They are talking about making that a four year college - I don't know what that will do to us except make it a busier place and maybe build buildings where the parking lot is.
Patrice - Lynn received a big packet of things from the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce today and he has loved going through it. He said "this is the sort of thing Patrice would do". Did you? Did you find any interesting homes yesterday (Roy called and Patrice was out going to some open houses). We hope the heat isn't "getting to you".
I can't think of anymore news. Daddy is feeling really good - he has an appointment with Dr. Brown on Monday, August 6th and I just know he is going to tell us that the hormone pills are doing "their job". They will have the results of blood tests taken about three weeks ago.
We love each one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Let us know how we can help you!!!
