Dearest John; Roy, Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

We are having an absolutely gorgeous Fall day here in Orem - I went visiting teaching early this morning and had to get dressed up so when I came home Daddy & I went shopping. I hope I get this letter finished so it can get mailed today!!!

We are looking for a portable disc player-radio-tape player & recorder combination. John has a friend who works at Best in Provo so we went there to look at the ones they have - his friend wasn't there so we plan to go back tonight. This will be our Christmas present to each other but we may get it for Halloween - Ha!!! Ann has requested a tape of Daddy's was stories and I would like one too because he seldom talks about them. I think it would be fun for us to tape things like what while we can still remember them - and I'm not kidding!!!

This is birthday week for Susanna, Roy & Patrice - we hope you all have wonderful birthdays!!! It was so fun to talk to you on Saturday evening Patrice - it has been a LONG time since we have talked to you - when we have talked to Roy you haven't been home. Your trips to Dallas and New Orleans sound really fun - I'm sure New Orleans was a special experience for you since you had never been there (Roy had a conference there so they both went and left Emily with a sitter). It's a good experience for Emily to stay with someone else too - I'll bet you were glad to get home though. We used to go to New Orleans quite often - they did a lot of construction around the ocean front and I'll bet it is really pretty now - we always loved the raw oysters there!!!

We had such a fun weekend. Bob, Michael, Laura & Brett came down on Thursday evening and we all went to the cabin. Daddy & I went in the truck and they drove in their car and it was quite late when we got there. The children were just absolutely wonderful - they made their own fun when they weren't watching videos and I did not hear one word of complaining!!! Daddy & Bob got up early on Friday morning and started to put the door in the kitchen going out to the deck - I had visions of a torn up kitchen with plastic covering the hole for several days and would you believe that the door was completely in and the mess all cleaned up by early afternoon. John came to help too and got there a little afternoon. They are real pros and I know they could build a house. WHAT A GREAT ADDITION THE DECK AND THE DOOR ARE TO THE CABIN!!!! It just makes our whole cabin twice as big - good idea Ron!!! I still can't believe daddy & I didn't think of it. They had to put a lot of screws in the floor of the deck and the children even helped with that. Daddy put sealer on it before we left on Saturday. He wants to go there sometime soon and put another coat of sealer on and also stain it.

Friday afternoon Bob & John took off on the four-wheeler to look for a place to go hunting. It was so funny - when they left it was kinda' cloudy but not bad but it started to rain on them and they were completely soaked through when they came back. They said they had found a good place to hunt where Daddy wouldn't have to walk too far - Ha!!! The three of them left about 6 o'clock Saturday morning and it was pitch dark. Daddy told me that their idea of not having to walk very far and his idea were quite different - he said he walked a "fur piece" but he loved it. They were back to the cabin about noon WITHOUT their deer and I was glad. We built a fire and cooked hot dogs and the children ate like I had never fed them before - I know Bob must have thought that I didn't feed them breakfast but I did. I had taken them for a long walk - there are some swings at another campgrounds quite always from our cabin and we walked there and then I became worried about so many hunters shooting that I didn't dare take them to the swings - they were good sports about it though. John left a little before we did - it was homecoming week at BYU and I hope he got back in time for some of the festivities - BYU won their football game with UTEP!!!

Wasn't the earthquake something!!!! Daddy & I were watching television waiting for the world series so we saw the news coverage from the very beginning - it was very sad to see all the fires and I didn't think there would be anything left of San Francisco. The accidents on the Bay Bridge were unbelievable. We worried that Ron might be traveling in that area so we called them and he was home. Bob called us and he hadn't heard about it so then we called John because he doesn't have a television set. We knew that Rick & Roy don't usually travel to the California area. They have said on National Television that Utah was the next probable place for an earthquake - I'M NOT GOING TO WORRY ABOUT THAT.

It was fun talking to you yesterday Jeannie - your home sounded so fun (they were making caramel apples)!!! I called to get their chili recipe. Daddy is having his High Priest chili supper this Friday night and we are going to give people that recipe to have them help make it. I am REALLY worried about the attendance for that - many in our ward will be involved in President Rex Lee's inauguration at BYU (Ann & Ron have also been invited to everything), it is also the State Championship Football game and many in our ward have children at the high school involved in that and now they have announced the world series will be played that night. Daddy & I may be the only ones there!!!!

Bob followed up on the photographer too and he has made appointments for the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. We are going to have the Bob Mellors, Woolleys & Weinerts make the decision on when to have it taken - you just let us know!!!
Patrice said it didn't matter to them and John says he doesn't care and we don't either.
We love each one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Let us know how we can help you.
