Dearest John; Roy, Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
I didn't write my letters yesterday - it was Columbus Day and I knew the mailman wouldn't pick it up from our box and I didn't have time to either write it or take it to the post office. Daddy & I had our Family Home Evening Group here last night and it was a lot of fun!!!! I made the two dessert recipes that Ann had taken to the Weinerts when we watched conference - they were just delicious and our friends loved them!!! I am getting slower and slower and don't get things done like I used to - there are so many signs that I am aging fast that I don't even like to think about it - when we had the Weinert grand children, Mary Ann & Ricky left shoes and pants in the closets here and even though I looked for them I couldn't find them - I still can't believe that!!!!
Today is Mary Ann's 7th birthday - we hope she has a special day. Jeannie taught a nutrition class at BYU yesterday and she & Sarah dropped by in the afternoon - it was SO fun to have them come. Annie dropped by for a few minutes too and after they all left Daddy and I talked about how beautiful they are - you all are to us!!!
Bob & Daddy and Michael, Laura & Brett all went to the cabin last Friday morning - they left in the truck and I FELT SO BAD THAT THERE WASN'T ROOM FOR ME - Ha!!! John went up on Saturday morning. Daddy just absolutely loved it - he has talked and talked about it. I admire all of them SO much for "making it fun" because they have turned the water off there now and I know it must be quite a challenge to prepare meals, etc. but they did it. They all said what a great improvement the deck is going to be for the cabin and daddy is REALLY excited about it. He left early this morning to go to Chris & Dick's in Salt Lake to get more lumber and he has arranged with Bro. Frisby (our home teacher who is a building contractor) to work with him tonight at his cabinet shop where they will cut the boards for the railing. We are going to go up on Thursday morning and I don't know how long we'll stay but Daddy is just dying to get back up there. He said he thinks he will build the railing in sections here and then take the sections up to the cabin. John brought the computer drawing of it all over last night so Daddy will take that to the building committee at Scofield - it has been approved but it is just nice to give this to them.
Needless to say - Daddy didn't shoot an elk!!! He had a god time with his friends but I believe they do more darling things than Daddy likes to do - he said he went down a mountain for five miles on his four-wheeler and it was really a rough, rough ride and then he had to bring another man back to the top. He talked to his friend, Ray, last night and he said someone in the group shot an elk but Ray didn't even see one either. He also got cold sleeping in the truck and he had thermal underwear and two sleeping bags - he was glad to get home!!!
We have had a lot of our missionaries come by to visit and that has been fun. Saturday night a young woman called about 9 o'clock and asked if they could come by - she lives in South Carolina now but we knew her when she lived in Arkansas. There were three of them who came and they stayed until about 11:30 and we talked and laughed about things that happened on our mission and we really enjoyed it. Then Sunday afternoon another young couple came by to visit and we had been invited to an open house so we had to have them leave early.
Daddy & I are taking a computer class at the High School in American Fork on Wednesday evenings. It is with that Community Education Program. I went alone last Wednesday and I think it will be something Daddy will be interested in - they are going to teach us how to put our bank statements and check book records on the computer. I learned a little bit but I learn better when Roy & John teach me on a one to one basis - I will never forget the hours Roy spent with me teaching me to how to run Ron's computer and I learned invaluable things!!! John has spent a lot of time with me too with this computer or I would never even be able to write my letters on it.
We talked to Roy for a few minutes last Saturday - whenever John comes home he always asks about you Roy and has called you several times when you weren't home. It will be so good for you to come home for Thanksgiving and spend time with John and all of us. We were thrilled to hear Roy tell us that Patrice was in Dallas "doing a little shopping" - Ha!!! She went with some of her friends and Roy was caring for Emily - I believe you are due home today Patrice and we hope you had a fu, fun time. We really are excited to see all of you but especially that little Emily!!!
I am going to a luncheon in a few minutes so I will close. One of the ladies in our luncheon group is quite crippled with arthritis and it would be so hard for her to prepare lunch in her home so she is treating us to lunch at "Chuck O Rama" - it will be fun. Everyone likes to go there because they all like different things and they can choose what they want to eat - our situation has certainly changed as we have been introduced to this group of friends - they are older and have health problems that limit their diets. I used to think everyone could eat anything they wanted to - but not here!!! That reminds me too that Chris & Marc Jordin are coming to visit and I don't have the faintest idea what they will be able to eat - he has been on a very strict diet for years!!!
We love each one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU. Let us know how we can help you!!!
