Dearest John; Roy, Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

Happy May Day!!!! When I was a little girl we used to always celebrate the first day of May - we would dress up in our prettiest dresses and wind the "maypole" with long strips of colored tissue paper. It was really a big thing and we would practice for along time without the paper and it was always so neat to see it done the first time with the paper. It was done in our playgrounds using those tall poles that are used for many things. The young boys were in it too and they were dressed in their "Sunday best"!!!! Do they do that where any of you live now??? The whole town would come out to watch it.

I have spent the last two hours outside looking in the grass in our yard and beyond our fence for Jessie's necklace. Susanna, Jessie, LeeAnna, Jimmy and Ann came over yesterday afternoon and we had such a wonderful time down on our lower grass - the children jumped on the trampoline and Ann & I visited. Jessie was so thrilled with a "friendship" necklace one of her friends had given to her and she showed it to me when they first came. Just as they were leaving she discovered it was gone. We all looked for it before they left and couldn't find it - then I looked again bit I always see better in the mornings so I went out bright and early this morning to look again - I can't imagine where it could be - I have looked EVERYWHERE. One of the students going to UVCC wondered what I was doing and I told him I was looking for gold - he came and looked with me for a little while. She lost one of Ann's good earrings that same way one time when they were over here - I will have her "check" her jewelry in the house the next time they come - Ha!!!!

Roy - it was SO nice for you to call last night. We are really thrilled that you have brought your van and we're anxious to see it. You will just have a wonderful time traveling around and camping it that - you both remind us of how we were at your age - we LOVED that sort of thing!!!! (They are going to try it out soon - they're going to drive to Little Rock on the 9th and vacation for about a week. Some of Roy's high school friends are going to get together and they will float the Buffalo River - that surely brings back memories.) Thanks so much for offering it to us if we should fly to San Antonio and then go on to Little Rock for the Stake Conference - I still don't know what we are going to do about that - Daddy doesn't seem too anxious to go and it would be for him that we would go. I would like for him to fly alone and go directly to Little Rock but he won't go alone. We REALLY LOVED those darling pictures and your letter Roy. Little Emily has such sweet expressions and I'm like Chris Jordin says is with her little grand daughter - "I long to hold her".

"The Men" are still at Lake Powell - except for Ron & Russell. They came home last night so Russell could keep his 100% attendance record at school. Ron called Ann from Hanksville and she called me - she said that Russell told her they had run out of food. I don't know if they really ran out or if they just ran out of the kind he liked. It kinda' tickles me if they did run out - everything I wanted to send Daddy would say, "Barbara we are going to have to bring all that back" and with my past record I didn't dare push it. Ann said they had had a wonderful time and they had all skied and gone down the slide and everything so the water must be a lot warmer that I had thought it would be. He also said they had caught some fish and had cooked them - SO I KNOW DADDY HAS HAD FUN!!!!!

Jean, Ann & I all went to a baby shower for one of Ramona's grand daughters on Saturday afternoon - it was REALLY fun. It was held at Carolyn's home (the mother of the girl who is going to have a baby) and everything was SO nice - they served a shrimp pasta salad, a huge strawberry dipped in chocolate, orange rolls and punch. There were a lot of relatives and friends there and it was fun to visit with them - we wanted to go shopping so we didn't stay very long - Ha!!!! After shopping we went to Ann's where all the children were and ate popcorn, had a fashion show of all Ann's new clothes and just visited and visited - it was JUST WONDERFUL!!!!

We had a fun evening last Tuesday - some of Daddy's sisters and their husbands came for dinner. Shirley and Glen didn't come - they live in Salt Lake and we didn't want them to make a special trip so we didn't call them until late in the afternoon to see if they were in Provo visiting with his Mother - they come here quite often. When that group gets together I would love to have a tape recorder hidden - it is just hilarious - they are all hard of hearing but won't admit it and their responses to some of the things that are said are so funny. Really they do admit it - they all wear hearing aids that don't work except for Daddy. They're wonderful people. Carol & Elly have been at BYU this past Semester learning "sign language" and Carol's quite good.

John will start Spring Semester the day after tomorrow. He surely has a cute girl friend and he must be interested because he stayed here for a date with her on Friday night and then drove clear to Lake Powell by himself early on Saturday morning. He said he thinks he did quite well on his finals - I hope so!!!!

Daddy bagged, borrowed and stole some old kitchen "stuff" from the Willardsen's condo. They have just had it "re-done" and some sinks, an electric stove and a cabinet were being thrown away and you know Daddy - he was SO excited!!!! Ron pulled the trailer with it on to the cabin on Friday on their way to Lake Powell so now Daddy has another project!!!! Thanks Ron!!!! ALL THE NEWS.
