Dearest Johnny; Roy; Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
Would you believe we are having a snow shower?????? I didn't want to get up this morning anyway because of the time change but when Daddy told me it was snowing outside that really did it!!!! We have had an unusually cold Spring I think but maybe it's just because we had an unusually cold Winter and I'm ready for warm weather. The newspaper quoted some of the fruit growers in Utah County as saying there would be no sweet cherries or peaches here this Summer because the buds were frozen and many of their trees were killed - I think that is SO sad - I remember my Father being so disappointed when his sour cherry crop was killed with cold weather - I guess there won't be any sour cherries here either this year. There will be some in other parts of Utah but not here.
Roy & Patrice - you are having beautiful weather, aren't you??? We surely did miss you yesterday at our family gathering at the Woolleys - I thought of how much fun Katie & Emily would have together. I also worried about little Katie having an upset stomach when she got home - Papa fed her some Jeannie's delicious but rich chocolate cake (with nuts!!!!). I had such a good phone visit with your friend Dr. Wilson who stayed with you - I haven't heard of the "Startup" candy company here but will look into it - would love an excuse to find a candy company!!!! We hope you are all doing good.
We had our missionary reunion on Friday night - we only had about twenty-five people come but it was really fun to see them and they stayed until about ten o'clock watching slides. It's funny - when we first started our reunions we only had the missionaries and then they started bringing their girl friends, then their wives and now they bring their children - it's good we have a playroom for them!!!!
We loved being together yesterday and watching General Conference - the Woolleys home is SO lovely and the food was all delicious. Conference was REALLY good - none of us think Pres. Benson is going to be with us for very long - he had his speeches read yesterday and he looks very feeble. When Daddy & I were watching it on Saturday we saw Bro. Howard W. Hunter fall at the podium and that was scary. He has been in a wheelchair but this time he used a walker and in the middle of his speech he suddenly fell backwards - they caught him and he proceeded with his talk just as if nothing had happened - Bro. Packer held his arm during the rest of his talk. Daddy & I are were especially thrilled to hear our friend, Malcolm Jeppson, called to serve for five years in the new quorum of
seventy that has just been organized. I know you all know both Malcolm and Marian - they have been our friends for forever and have visited us wherever we have lived - even coming to Little Rock. Malcolm is almost 65 and will have to give up his practice of family medicine - that will be a big change for them. The President of BYU, Jeffery Holland, was also called so BYU will be getting a new president and also the Ricks College President, Joe Christensen. The church is growing SO fast they are having to get more leadership in order to cover it all - almost 257,000 new convert baptisms last year!!!! The membership of the church is close to 7 million now.
Did you all get fooled on April Fool's Day???? Susanna & Jessie kept us posted on the activities at their home - honey on the toilet seats, shaving cream on the ear piece of their phones and Ann put tooth paste between the layers of
Oreo cookies - YUK!!!! I told them I was going to put dog food in the casserole I made for the dinner yesterday - maybe that's why they didn't eat it!!!
Daddy had a wonderful time on his fishing trip to the Piute Reservoir and they also went to Otter Creek - they caught about twenty of the biggest trout I have ever seen - I took pictures of them!!!! He had planned to go to Utah Lake today and catch some of the "mud catfish" but since it is storming I don't believe they will go.
Bob is having terrible hay fever - I really felt for him yesterday. I remember those days so well - in the early Spring and Fall. I can't believe it but I have grown out of that - I very seldom have any and I used to be SO miserable. I have also grown out of my back problem and that has surely been a blessing. My father never did grow out of his hay fever. Bob says the medication he takes doesn't make him drowsy so they have really improved it. Roy, how are your allergies???
Chris Jordin called on Saturday - they received an announcement from the Gonces about Eric's marriage but we didn't. I guess we hurt their feelings, unintentionally!!!! Chris also has hay fever - also arthritis!!!!
I don't have any more news. We love each one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Let us know how we can help you.
P.S. Johnny came home last Monday night and put the ribbon in the printer in about two minutes!!!!! I can't do anything that requires any mechanical brain material. John's nose is looking better but he is going to have it reset between semesters - Bob has really helped him.
I just remembered something funny? We had all the family gather in front of the Woolley's home yesterday for a picture and I thought we had everyone (I even counted the children). When we got home, the Weinerts came by and told us that little Sarah had been locked in the bathroom for about thirty minutes and was there when the picture was taken - she said she was "brave" because the light was on - isn't that something!!!!!
