Dearest John; Roy, Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
Well - I'm back using Ron's computer. The ribbon on ours is so weak so I went to the Office Supply store close by us and bought one that the clerk said was absolutely compatible to ours and there is no way I can put it on - maybe John will be able to when he comes home but I don't think it will fit - that makes me SO angry!!! I'll take it back if John can't put it on!!!
We hope you all had a super happy Easter weekend. John went to Moab bicycling and we had invited him to come have dinner with us yesterday and when he walked in I about fainted. When he first got to Moab he was getting his bicycle down some cliffs and decided to ride it instead of walking it down and he tipped over on it and I know his nose is broken. He said he had called Bob and Bob didn't think he could do anything until the swelling has gone down but he really looks awful - it's all red and cut and swollen. He said his nose bled for a long time and it was quite sore but he stayed in Moab for two days bicycling. I called him this morning and he didn't answer so he is either really sick and not answering the phone or he has gone to school. This is the second time he has bad his nose broken - maybe we can get Bob to do a better job of setting it if he decides that is the best thing to do. John just loves to go bicycling and they stay in a "hostel" in Moab for $6 a night so it isn't an expensive trip for him - he drove his car this time with a rack on the back of it and he says he gets 35 miles per gallon. He decided against taking the van so we tried to get him to take the truck and sleep in the back of it but we can see why he didn't want to. Another young man went with him this time.
We talked to Susanna & Jessie this morning and they still SO excited about their trip to Southern Utah - they went to St. George and hiked up some mountains, then to Hurricane where they went swimming in the warm sulphur springs there and to Zion where they stayed in the lodge. Somewhere they went horseback riding and they loved that and somewhere they ordered hot cakes and we laughed as they described them - one hot cake at the restaurant would make twenty of their "home" hot cakes and they each ordered two and could only eat about two bites - Ha!!!! They were still home for Easter vacation today. Ann spoke at their Saturday night session of Stake Conference and Susanna said that the General Authority there wanted a copy of her talk. We haven't talked to Ann - their line is either busy or they aren't home when we try to call.
Daddy worked all day Friday changing our sprinkling system - when we put our fence in, the college moved their sprinklers (they had been watering some of our lawn) so he had to put in some new ones and then he put some more in the front too. Saturday morning we drove to the cabin - the road from the gate is still knee deep in snow so we had to slide down it again. Daddy put up the owl that Patrice painted for him and also the butterflies she drew for him - I have to be sure to tell you that he painted them because she won't want the "credit ?" for that - Ha!!! They look just darling and he's SO proud of them. Daddy wants to start paneling the kitchen but I want him to wait - he plans to put the boards, etc. on sleds and get them to the cabin instead of waiting another two or three weeks until the road is cleared.
We loved your letter Patrice. We kinda' envy you your warm weather - once it gets March I'm ready for Spring and so is Daddy and our weather is warm one day and cold the next. We haven't heard from the Weinerts or the Bob Mellors but we're looking forwards to being together next Sunday at the Woolley's home - it is our General Conference so there won't be any local meeting and we'll all have dinner and watch conference on television there. it was fun to hear Susanna & Jessie tell how they were looking forward to that - the "cousins" really love each other!!
I guess the big news for this letter is the discovery made at the University of Utah of a new and simpler form of energy - it is obvious I don't know what I'm talking about but I wanted to mention it because this letter is my journal and if it is as important a discovery as they claim it is it should be in my letter - Ha!!! It has been on the news constantly since Thursday (I think that's right) and it really caught Daddy's attention and since he is the scientist between the two of us it must be quite important!!!! The first things john said when we were discussing it with him last night was "Texas won't be happy to hear about this" so maybe Roy & Patrice haven't even heard about it. Governor Bangerter has appropriated three million dollars for further research for it.
Daddy is going fishing down to Piute again in the morning - he & Ray and another man from Lehi will leave about 3 o'clock and come back Wednesday. He just LOVES that and I'm SO glad he feels good enough to go. He roto-tilled our garden this morning - he rented a rototiller and put it in the truck and then unloaded it in the college parking lot (one of the men working over there helped him unload it but he lifted it himself to put it back in). Claire - he has his tomato water things already and can hardly wait until it's time to plant them (about a week, I think) - have you planted yours yet.
We're going to play cards tonight with our sweet friends - we'll have to leave early if Daddy is to get any sleep. I am taking a "memory" class on Wednesday mornings - I REALLY don't believe I will be able to do it so I will probably quit!!!
We love each one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Let us know how we can help you!!!!
