Monday morning - AND THE SUN IS SHINING!!!! We are having a beautiful day and it really makes a difference in how we feel. Yesterday, Sunday, was a rainy and cloudy day so we are loving it today.
I didn't write my letter last week because we were all together but even though it's been two weeks. I don't have much news. We just LOVED having Roy, Patrice and especially little Emily with us - WE REALLY MISS HER!!! We had one of our former missionaries come by to visit with us yesterday and he & his wife brought their little 10 month old boy - he and Emily would have had fun together. Emily was SO GOOD. I still can't believe it - she was never " hard to handle" and just slept and ate like she was in her own home - I kept waiting for her to realize she was with strangers and in new surroundings but she just adjusted like we had hoped she would. WE WILL TAKE CARE OF HER ANYTIME!!!!
Roy & Patrice had a great skiing vacation and it sounded like their accommodations at Snowbird were very, very nice. Bob & Claire and John went skiing with them on Saturday and had lunch in the lodge and that was special - John said it was ultra, ultra nice!!!! We thought the weather down here in the valley left a lot to be desired but I guess it's always better up in the mountains. Roy & Patrice & Emily left about 12:30 on Saturday afternoon and after we left the airport, Daddy & I went shopping at some of the marine wholesale places (we bought a pot to heat water in, in our van) and then we took the silverware up to the Woolleys (they had forgotten it at the Weinerts and Rick brought it to the airport) and just as we got home, the phone rang and it was Roy - they had been home in San Antonio for an hour so they really beat us home!!!!! What a sentence!!!!!
DADDY & I LOVED THE FAMILY DINNER AT THE WEINERTS!!!! We surely hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did, I don't know of anything that gives us more joy than for our family to all get together like that. When we talked to Rick the next morning he said their new home had now "been baptized" and we know what he meant - it is quite a challenge to have that many little children in a home - especially since all of our "little children" have so much fun together and become "quite wild" I'm SO glad I was upstairs with little Emily and got to visit with Brett while he played with the "marble machine" so intently and also to see the children in their "play clothes" - the next time we get together like that I want to take pictures of them - I wish they had put on the play they had practiced. With our family getting SO BIG we will enjoy going to the parks and wide open spaces for our "get together" - SCOFIELD will be fun this Summer, I hope!!!!
We really enjoyed going to the PV & Boat show at the Salt Palace with Roy & John too - seeing all those things gives us a lot to think about. Patrice took Emily shopping at Crossroads Plaza while we went to the boat show and they enjoyed that - Patrice rented a stroller so Emily didn't get too tired.
Daddy went shopping this morning and got a "dog door" - he is going to make an opening through the garage to our back yard and try to get Hans to learn how to use it. We want to go to California and just make some little short trips and if he can go back and forth through the garage it will really save us and also John a lot of worry. Our trip to Florida was a real hardship for John and we didn't realize it that much while we were gone but since we have been home in this cold weather we know how much he must have worried about Hans. If we can teach him to use this. John would only have to check on him once in awhile.
We are finally getting our ceiling fixed. The man came a few minutes ago and sanded it and then put more plaster on it - he said if it
dries enough he will come back later this afternoon and finish it - I am very, very tired of being in this mess. This has been a hard Winter for many people. One of our friends came by this morning to visit for a little while and they had a pipe break in the ceiling of their basement and the water ran for about 5 and one half hours - she said the carpet is dry now but they don't want it re-laid until they have more insulation put in and their ceiling fixed. It will probably be Spring before things are back to normal. Sometimes I wonder about the way homes are built here.
I gave my lesson in Relief Society yesterday and I'm glad that's over for a month. I got up at 5 a.m. and planned it and decided to ask three sisters to take part in it - as it turned out they took too much time and I didn't really have time to give what I had prepared - it will take me awhile to learn how to teach here.
I believe that's all the news. Thank you all for "getting together"!!!! We love each one of you so very much - PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO - Let us know how we can help you.
