Dearest Johnny; Roy; Patrice & Emily; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

Happy New Year to everyone!!!! This is my first letter for 1989 - I hope we will all have a wonderful and healthy New Year - someone I was talking to the other day forgot it was going to be 1989 and they said, "I hope you have a wonderful 1988" and I quickly said, "I don't want another 1988" - Ha!!! I know we will have other years like this past one and I also knew we will be able to "handle them!" We are very grateful for the blessings we have received and acknowledge them every single day!!!

What a fun day we had yesterday and it was completely unexpected!!!! First of all Ann, Jimmy & LeeAnna came to visit and it was especially fun because they REALLY came to visit - not to just drop in for a minute. Then the Weinerts came by to visit and then Ron, Susanna, Jessie & Russell came - the children are always SO good when they get together to go downstairs in the play room and the adults sat around our kitchen table and really had a good time!!! Ron had taken their older children skiing earlier in the day and they had had such a good time - Rick had the day off and they all spent it with us - I believe Bob was on call or they would have called them to come too.

We have had such a wonderful holiday and we appreciate SO much all the things you all did to make it SO happy for us!!! We love the gifts we received from you for Christmas and also for my birthday but what we loved the most was your phone calls and being able to visit with the ones here in Utah and your concern for us.

We had two grandchildren celebrate birthdays last week - Brett turned three years old the day after Christmas and LeeAnna turned five years old on Thursday. Bob & Claire decided against telling Brett it was his birthday - Ha!!! I'll bet this is the last year they will be able to get by with that but I surely don't blame them. LeeAnna's family went to see Roger Rabbit and then she invited four little friends to go see another movie with her - she was SO cute - she called to thank us for the little gift we had given her and she is always SO excited and went on and on telling me about everything and then she said quite disgustedly, "Well, Grandma, can I tell this to Grandpa"!!!! WE REALLY LOVE OUR GRANDCHILDREN!!!!

Daddy and I went to some of our friends' home in Salt Lake for a New Years breakfast - they do this every year and serve huge pancakes with frozen peaches (they get them from Brigham City each Fall) on top and then whipped cream on top of that and then they serve ham. We always love to go!!!! After that we went to visit the Weinerts and Bob Mellors (this was on Saturday). The Weinerts love their new home and it is VERY, VERY BEAUTIFUL. We also wanted to check on little Mary Ann. Bob had taken her tonsils out earlier in the week - she is getting along great and Bob said they were really large. Bob & Claires' home is also VERY, VERY BEAUTIFUL - Claire's brother Steve and his wife and little baby were visiting with them from California and it was fun to see them - their little baby girl definitely has auburn hair and they have named her Amber - cute!!!!

Johnny has had some more bad luck with cars and I guess that would be the big news for this letter. Our roads have been SO bad with all the snow and cold weather - Johnny had two friends over on Sunday night and as they were leaving I insisted that they take our car because it handles so well on the ice. They left here about 9:10 p.m. and went up to the BYU campus and he parked the car in front of Wymont Terrace which is a married couples' apartment complex (right across from the temple). It would have taken him about fifteen minutes at least to get there and get it parked - he took his keys out of the ignition, not even thinking about another set that was in the "dog box". When he came out about ten minutes later the car was gone - he phoned the police and their report was clocked in at 9:41 so you know he was only away from it for about ten - fifteen minutes. I remember the time so well because Daddy & I were watching "The Karen Carpenter Story" and we decided to watch the last hour of it upstairs and we tried to get them to stay home and watch television instead of going out in the fog!!!! The police told him that just last week some cars had stereos and tapes stolen in that same place - they think they were looking for tapes and when they saw the keys they just took off!!!! Isn't that something?? A brand new car and it had a full tank of gas so they could get out of the state without even stopping - they are looking for it nationwide but so far we haven't heard anything. It is fully insured so we're not worried but just disgusted that there are people in the world like that. We feel bad for John - it really could have happened to anyone - he is just sick!!!! It didn't even have license plates on it yet - just the sticker in the window - the police said they would tear that off and steal more license plates.

Daddy is putting a door at the top of our stairs - he did that in Little Rock and we loved it. Rick & John helped him yesterday. Rick, Ricky, Johnny and Daddy had all planned to go to the cabin but they couldn't without the car.

Johnny is doing some of his "business" downstairs in his room so I'm using Ron's computer today - I hope I haven't forgotten how to get it printed and it gets "lost". I love this computer!!!

Chris & Wayne called last night - they want us to come get them and then go to Florida and go to the Epcot (sp.?) center. We'll have to wait and see about our car. Their Linda is expecting a baby in March and then their daughter-in-law is expecting a baby in July - they are REALLY thrilled about that!!!! We love each one of you so very much - PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!
