Dearest Johnny; Roy & Patrice; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura & Brett; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
Today is Roy & Patrices' birthday - we hope you are having a really Happy Day!!!! I think it is so neat for you to have your birthdays on the same day - your marriage was made in Heaven!!!! It really is a coincidence and also for Patrice's Mom and my birthday to be on the same day - that should tell us something - Ha! I remember so well thirty years ago in Phoenix when you were born Roy - my mother had come to help and she had already been with us for two weeks and Daddy was "climbing the walls". She stayed an additional month and wouldn't let any of other children even touch you - that was a long month but she meant well and really just wanted to help. Yesterday was Susanna's birthday and she was so excited with her party and gifts - Papa and I went over for just a few minutes after her party so she could show us her things. It was always so neat to plan birthday parties for you Roy because we could have Halloween ones and they were easy!!
Johnny took one of his friend girls to Tremonton this afternoon to attend the homecoming of his friend Grant Hardester. They lived together while they were at the Y and Johnny has been excited about having him come home and start back to school. He went to a Halloween party last night - he went as the Big Bad Wolf with three girls who dressed as the Three Little Pigs. We haven't had time to hear about it but I'm sure they had fun. He took a date to a Haunted House at the Mental Hospital here in Provo on Friday night - Ann says that is the most frightened she has ever been when she went to that a few years ago but he said it wasn't all that scary to him. They have the mental patients act as hosts and it really adds to the atmosphere. There were four of them who went to it and then they came over here after wards and made "shish-ka-bobs" - they tried to make them the way you told them, Patrice. They had a good time and it was fun to hear them out in the backyard.
The Weinerts came down yesterday afternoon - Ann, Jean & I went shopping at the Mall - Rick & Ron baby sat and we really had fun shopping the sales and "saving" all that money. The cousins played and played at they Woolleys and then came over here for a little while and then they all went to the movie, Snow White at the Scera.
Daddy & Johnny went deer hunting yesterday morning. They invited me to go with them last weekend but Johnny announced on Friday that he wanted to go to hunt and not just go for a picnic - Ha!!! They left about 5 o'clock in the morning and stayed until about 2 in the afternoon but they didn't shoot anything - Johnny said he saw one when they first got there but it was too dark to see if it had horns or not so he didn't dare shoot it. Daddy went with ray on Thursday afternoon and they stayed until dark but they didn't see anything either - I guess this is the year for beef. Actually, I believe Daddy was kinda' happy to not have to worry about bringing one home.
Bob - we have appreciated your phone calls - it's always so good to talk to you. We hope you're doing good Claire - I know you are enjoying your beautiful weather - I hope you will be able to travel around and see the trees as they change colors. The mountains here are beautiful but I will always remember the Springs and the Falls in the South - they are special!!!!
Ricky & Barji both won special recognition in their classes for special reports and projects they have been involved in - Ricky and his Daddy built a bird house that they are really proud of and Barji made a written report about ribbons she has won through the years for piano recitals, etc. we are thrilled with the schools our grandchildren are attending. Susanna, Jessie & Russell have made the adjustment to their new school fine but I know Ann will be happy when she doesn't have to transport them so far. Their home is coming along good but we tease them and say we don't see how they can possibly be in before Thanksgiving.
Daddy is feeling much, much better - he might not tell you he is that much better but I can definitely see an improvement. He taught our Sunday School class this morning and he was his old self again - his tongue is hardly noticeable any more. He REALLY appreciated your sending him that "acute pain management system" Roy - he has spent a lot of time with it and I know it has given him some relief for his neck muscles. I came home one day and he had those patches all over his face - I wish I could have grabbed the camera before he took them off. He had the spinal tap last Tuesday and that was NOT fun. I wish I had been better prepared for it - I thought it would be over in a matter of minutes and we could go home and have dinner (his appointment was for 5:30 p.m.) His doctor came to me and said, "Oh, by the way he needs to stay in the hospital for two hours so we can observe him and he needs to stay flat on his back until Thursday - I hope you have a car where he can lay down". It was painful but the results from the tests so far have all been normal - his doctor is a woman and she said she won't know some of the results for ten days. He will have the MRI at the University of Utah Med. Center on Tuesday - an appointment with his urologist, Dr. Middleton on Thursday and then another appointment with the neurologist on Friday. We are crossing our fingers that all those tests will be normal and we'll let you know so please don't worry about us.
How about the Stock Market Crash - what a shock!!!! We lost a lot on paper but we couldn't have done anything about it anyway so we're not worrying. Our investments are all secure. It would be fun to get into the market not but we definitely aren't going to!
Johnny brought his friend girl home for pizza - it was fun. He had checked on Grandpa Forrest today and he is the same!!!!
