Dearest Johnny; Roy & Patrice; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura & Brett; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
It's Sunday afternoon again and just a beautiful but very cold day - our home is so warm and comfortable in the kitchen and den areas that forget how could it is outside. Our home teachers just left and when we walked outside with them I couldn't believe how cold it is. The sun comes into our kitchen and den and it is so beautiful and also cozy and warm.
Johnny - we didn't hear from you this week but we know you are busy and really don't have a lot to write about. We had a young man return from the New Zealand Mission in our ward this morning and it made me so homesick just to look at him. I told you about Kevin Broderick going to Venezuela - his mother said this morning that he can't get hiss visa so he is going to the Spanish speaking Mission in Houston, Texas. This is the first ward we have lived in for a long, long time that has so many young men coming and going on their missions. We're anxious to hear about your baptisms for March - did you reach your goal? I would also like to know about the activities in your wards there - do they have road shows and things like that? Our ward is working on their road show now and want to borrow our benches that we have on our front porch. Do you, as missionaries, get to attend many of their activities? We used to invite the missionaries to all of our homemaking luncheons in Little Rock - do you get invited to anything like that?
We haven't heard from the Bob or Roy Mellors this week so I don't have any news to report. We haven't talked to the Weinerts either!!! We have talked to the Woolleys so I'll report all I know about them - Ha!!! They have had their house plans approved by the architect so now all they have to do is have them approved by the city of Provo and that is more or less just a formality - they expect to start building in another week!!!! It will be a relief for them to finally get started - the architect had them change a few things that will improve it so they're happy about that - he suggested they grade down their lot more than they had planned. Susanna had a letter she had written to the newspaper published last week - it was a really cute letter telling about a "no book" day the newspaper had sponsored. Ron was in San Francisco all last week. Ann & I went to a craft show on Orem on Friday and PaPa tended Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy for a little while - we weren't gone very long but the usual things happened, like Russell stepping on a nail, etc. Ann was in charge of fixing the fruit for a luau for Susanna's class so we had to hurry home. I love craft shows and can't believe all the cute ideas people come up with - I bought some things to go in that space above the window in our eating area of the kitchen. I also bought some hot dog sticks we will use at Lake Powell they are almost too cute to use - the handles are hand painted!!!!
Daddy and I finally got up enough courage to ask for a change in our assignment at the temple (actually Daddy got up enough courage). We had decided that when we had worked there a year we could feel good about changing our schedules - having two days right together will make it so we can do something weekends. The early morning schedule has really been hard for us - mostly because we don't sleep at all the night before worrying about getting up on time so we won't be doing that anymore. We will work Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:30 until 8:30 - we usually go in at noon one of those days so we can do an endowment session before we start working. Already we are so excited about not having to go in at 4:30 a.m. and we haven't even started yet - Ha!
Daddy has been working out in our yard - he outlined all the flower beds with bricks and then got some topsoil to put in them. He is anxious to start on the patio but I believe he will wait until next week. We will have our missionary reunion this Friday and if it's nice weather we'll have it outside and it wouldn't be a good idea to have it in a mess. We don't have any idea how many will come to the reunion and it's so hard to plan refreshments - I thin we'll just have punch and cookies. Two of our lady missionaries were over Friday night offering to help serve. The girl who said she would send out invitations hasn't done it yet and since it's so late we're hopping she won't do it now.
We talked to Chris & Wayne last night - they had just gone back to Alabama from Arkansas. They said it was very cold in Little Rock and people were worried the azaleas and other blooming things would all freeze - it was 85 degrees where they were in Alabama. We're planning a trip to Alaska with them - probably late. August and first of September (it isn't definite yet). Chris has written and had them send her all the brochures, etc. so they're ready to go. They have customized a new van and just love traveling all over in it. I believe that is in our future - Wayne told Daddy he would help him customize one!
I can't think of any more news. A movie star wants to lease our Lehi pasture to put his prize horses in - he really wants to lease it with the option to buy it but we don't want to sell. That is beautiful piece of property - I keep thinking some of us will want to farm it but Daddy just laughs at that!!!
We surely do love each one of you and we miss you!!! PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO!!! We're so proud of you. Let us know how we can help you.
