Dearest Johnny; Roy & Patrice; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura & Brett; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
It's Sunday afternoon and we have just finished dinner - we thought maybe Jeannie & Rick and their family would be here when we came home from church but they weren't so we ate without them. Daddy put a pork roast in the oven before we went to church and it was really good.
Johnny - our letter was "Music to our ears" - (his last letter said he had received the Christmas video but that he had been too busy to watch it). That is exactly the way your Mission is supposed to be and we're PROUD of you!!!! At church this Morning they had a farewell for Kevin Broderick who is one of our neighbors and he is going to Venezuela - it was a wonderful Meeting. In Kevin's talk he said he had learned there were three kinds of Missionaries: bad, fair, good and awesome - he was hoping to be awesome and I sat there thinking about what an awesome Missionary you are. We received the Medical insurance forms you sent - I'm sure what that Must have taken
a lot of time to get your doctors' signatures and all but we appreciate it. We hope so Much that the Missionary activity you were planning turned out well - (he and his companion were planning an activity for 150 Missionaries) - we hope you'll write and tell us about it.
It was great to talk to Bob and also to Roy & Patrice last week - we really appreciate your calling us!!!! Bob was at work so we didn't get to talk to Claire but he said they were doing fine. Roy & Patrice - we kinda' hope you didn't go on your planned skiing trip to Vermont - you have had terrible and dangerous weather!!!! I'll bet it is really fun to get away for things like that though (they were going on a cross country skiing trip). Patrice, I can hardly wait to try the spaghetti squash recipe you sent - it sounds wonderful. I looked for spaghetti squash yesterday at the grocery store and they didn't have it - they had banana squash and I just about bought that instead - do you suppose that would work???
We have watched the weather news lately and Tennessee and Boston have both had really Winter weather. Today right when we came home from church the phone rang and it was Dorothy Woods - she wanted Bob & Claires' phone number. Terry had sent Carol some plane tickets to go
to Chattanooga to visit with her and she had flown from Memphis and left her car there - they wanted to call Bob and see how the weather conditions were there because Carol was supposed to get there tonight and then drive to Jonesboro. We thought it was so funny she would call here (she said she had tried to get his number from the Memphis operator) when they could have called the Memphis airport. We really think she called to tell us that the Daniels have put our old home up for sale and they were having an open house today. We had heard they Might do this but we haven't heard anything directly from them. Dorothy said the real estate Market in Little Rock wasn't very good right now. They still owe us
a lot of Money so it will be interesting to see what happens!!!
We just had a phone call from Jeannie and they're on their way down to see us. They had Stake Conference today and they went to that first - we kinda' thought they would Miss that and come down earlier.
Susanna & Jessie came over the other night - they wanted us to support a "Read - A - Thon" they're having in their school. It was so Much fun to have them come over - we Made some raspberry ice cream with our ice cream "Machine" and it was really good
Daddy went ice fishing on Thursday and Friday!!!! Would you believe six of them went in a trailer and camper and spent the night and fished all day - they only caught 10 fish and they said that Daddy caught 8 of them. They are beautiful huge rainbow trout. Daddy bought an "ice auger" - I believe that's what it is called - and he said it works like a charm. They have been using an axe to cut holes in the ice and it was so hard to do daddy had threatened to take his power saw. Daddy laughed when I told him that Bob was worried that he Might fall into the lake and hoped that he was wearing a life jacket - I guess Most of the ice is 18 inches thick and he said they even drive trucks out on it. Bob, Roy & John - do you remember how Daddy used to clean out the cupboards and freezer and take all the old and dumb food to eat on your duck hunts??? Well - he is still doing that - he takes stale chips, old cookies and whatever is at hand - he says they get so hungry they will eat anything - I worry that his friends think I won't let him take anything good. He won't let me throw anything like that away - he always says, "Save it for when I go fishing or hunting", so into the freezer it goes!!!!!
I went to the dentist last Monday and have to go again in the morning. He is restoring some of the fillings that have been worn away through the years. I go to Dr. Miller over in Lehi - he did all of Aunt Marvel's gold crowns and they were beautiful. I didn't think I would ever go back to him because I went right after our mission and he thought I was Aunt Marvel's sister - Ha!
I can't think of any more new but if I do I'll add it later. Our Home Teachers are coming in a few Minutes and then Jean & Ricks' family will be here and then it's the SUPER BOWL!!!! We love each one of you so very Much and we're so proud of you - PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO - LET US KNOW HOW WE CAN HELP YOU!!!!!!
