March 3, 1985 Billings, Montana
Dearest Johnny; Roy; Bob, Claire, Michael & Laura; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean & Mary Ann; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell & Lee Anna:
We just had our sacrament meeting in the Mission Home. You wouldn't believe the snowstorm we have had the past two days - all the meetings in Billings were cancelled for today. Our driveway is all drifted over and it's going to be really hard to get our car out - the back driveway didn't get as much of the drift as the front one did so some of the mission cars can get out. The Elders tried to shovel the snow yesterday but it was blowing so hard they didn't make any headway. It is a beautiful storm but more like December or January. Daddy and I were supposed to go to either Riverton, Wyoming or Helena, Montana today to attend their stake conferences but it is just too dangerous so we have stayed home - it's kinda' fun! I made a huge pot of chili for the Elders and some corn bread and brownies and they're having a ball. They did go out last night though for a baptism.
We talked to Annie yesterday and she is doing much better. Beverly has stayed with her four weeks and that has really helped - Russell came for her yesterday and they were just leaving when we called. Beverly is a hard act to follow - Ann said the children were all so happy and well cared for and she just rested to get her strength back. We're glad that's over for you Annie and we hope you won't overdo now and have a set back - take care of yourself and I personally think you should gain weight - 114 lbs. is a little on the skinny side!
Rick - we thought sure you would come to the Mission Home while you were in Billings. We had told all the Elders to give you the "royal treatment" and they were disappointed you didn't come - we surely don't blame you though! We hope you had success with the salesman while you were here - at least the weather was pretty good. Ricky and Barji we LOVED your letters and pictures - we think you are doing so good to be able to write so good. Ann says she has talked to you Jeannie and you're feeling pretty good - it won't be long now!!! You're on the skinny side too and we hope you'll be able to gain some weight - have you made the brownies yet? They will do it!
Bob & Claire - we envy your weather! We can remember the beautiful Spring weather in Little Rock when all the azaleas would come in bloom and the dogwood trees, etc., etc., - do they have it that pretty in Memphis? Claire - have you done any Spring sewing lately - I'll bet you have. The fashions now are so unpredictable - I can't tell what's in and what isn't. We were in a motel the other night when the "Grammy Awards" were on - I talked Daddy into watching that instead of one of his "Shoot em ups" and I honestly thought he was going to have a heart attack watching those weird, weird hairdos and fashions - that was really strange!
Roy - our snowstorm has reminded us of the one they had in Providence while you were a student at Brown and all the students pitched in to shovel and help the people. I believe you caught a bad cold and were sick for quite awhile. I don't think our Elders would be nearly as anxious to help if we didn't have a snow tractor and blower - this snow is quite heavy though and they may have to do some shoveling! We hope you're doing great!
Johnny - Annie says you are doing really good so we haven't tried to call you - it is always so hard to find you home anyway. Dave come over last Monday - it was the missionaries P-Day and he went to play football with them or something. It was also Elder James' birthday and I had made him a birthday cake so he stayed for some cake - he is doing good! We watches the BYU - University of Utah basketball game last night and what a game - we were hoping you were watching it in person. (They had three overtimes and the Utah team won by one point.) We hope you will get your physical and dental examinations soon as you can put your mission papers in when you want to. I remember when Bob went we took him to his childhood pediatric for his physical and since you don't have one in Utah you will just have to choose a good Dr.
We had good weather for our zone conference tour last week - we left Monday to go to Missoula, then to Helena and then to Great Falls. The missionaries are all doing good - we have very few problems right now and THAT'S WONDERFUL!! Elder Lee gave us permission to drive to Utah for April conference - we'll leave here on Tuesday the 2nd and go through Brigham City to see the folks, then to Farmington to see Jeannie & Rick, then to Provo to see Johnny, and Annie & Ron - we're excited. I don't have any more news so I won't start another page. We love each one of you so very much! PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO - Let us know how we can help you!!!!
