December 26th - Monday afternoon

I decided to write a P.S. to my letter because I could never describe this adequately next Sunday when I would normally write about it!!!

About a month ago the missionaries in the mission home and Billings and Laurel challenged Johnny to get a basketball team together to play them on their P day the day after Christmas. Well there has been such a competitive atmosphere about this game for the last two weeks and every night at the diner table to missionaries would tease Johnny about how they were going to "smother" his team. One night when Johnny wasn't home I told the Elders they were going to just have to let Johnny win and it was so funny - they were just adamant about giving in to him. Finally I turned to Daddy and said, "they do have to let Johnny win don't they?" and he said, "well if they want to play in the Mission Home they do"! Well we have all had a god laugh about this but they were so sure they could really whip Johnny's team. They even "wagered" articles of clothing like pretty scarves, Etc. It has all been in fun.

The missionaries went to the Stake Center early this morning to practice and Johnny went all over town rounding up his tam - Daddy and I got there about 10:45 (it was supposed to start at 11:00) and there were twelve missionaries and only four of Johnny's friends. We really felt bad for John but he was still optimistic - finally in a few minutes more of his friends came - the missionaries were ahead the first five minutes of the game by about five points but from then on they really got skunked and John's team won 82 to 60. It has really been funny in the mission home this afternoon - the missionaries are really subdued and it's good for them. You wouldn't believe how good John is and he got the best players from his school to come play too and it was really fun. Johnny has decided to not play for his school team so he could play for the church and then play intramural basketball at school but we kinds' wish he would play on the school team - he is really good!!!

It is snowing here today but the temperature is about 10 above so it seems a lot warmer - the warm has made the roads really icy so we'll probably be having a lot of accidents!!!

Let me give you a good fudge recipe that is so easy to make. One of the Elders in the home received some fudge from his mother and he said we could all have a piece and that just about used it all up and I felt bad for him so I called his mother to get her recipe - she lives in California (she and her husband are divorced). Anyway, here it is:

1(6 oz.) package of semi-sweet real chocolate chips

1(6 oz.) package of butterscotch chips

1 can Eagle Brand milk

melt this all together in the top of a double boiler - don't have the water boiling (just hot).

When it is melted add 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 cup of hopped nuts Spread in a buttered oblong Pyrex pan

Chill - cut in pieces.

The Post Office is closed today so I'm not in a hurry to get this mailed. We surely do love you and miss you very much!!!
