Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna & Jessie, Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barbara Jean and Roy,
Well - we have started the last full month that we will live in Little Rock - these last months are the hardest of all I'm sure. We still haven't sold our home and we have decided to leave it for sale during the Summer and then if it isn't sold by August we'll rent it. Bob says he will take care of it for us - hopefully it will sell before long.
Annie and Ron - we loved the pictures of Jessie's party - I have taken them to school to show the kids in my classes and the teachers and they all think Jessie and Susanna are twins until they see them standing together. We can't get over how much Barbara Jean and Jeannie look alike and then that little Ricky who will take care of all his little girl cousins some time!!!! It looks so much fun with all of them together and the little
Grundahl kids are so cute too. We got the pictures back that we took on our trip to Utah and they are really cute too - we'll have copies made for you but I had to send these to Cissy who is making some kind of a poster for our party. Roy - we would surely like a snapshot of you to put with the ones we have - we didn't know she was going to do anything with pictures and we took all our albums to Utah and the only one we have of you is one the Woods had of Jeannie's wedding - please send us one. We're so anxious for Ron to call and tell us the baby is here and all is well - anytime the phone rings after nine now I run thinking it is Ron or Roy!!!! I can come if you need me.
Jeannie and Rick - we're happy your little surgery is over Jeannie and we are really happy that Mrs. Weinert is able to come stay with you - what a joy for Ricky and Barji to have their grandmother with them. Jeannie - we hope you will get feeling much much better really soon - it is really unbelievable what some women have to go through to get their families but I'm sure there is a purpose in it. Rick - we're so proud of you and your new job - that's really wonderful and we're anxious to hear more about it - I'm sure last week was a hard one for you with Jeannie in the hospital and a new job and all - hang in there!!!! I can come if you need me.
Roy - we haven't heard from you for a long time and we hope everything is going okay. A student teacher came up to me the other day and said, "Are you any relations to Roy Mellor? Her first name is Cindy and I'll have to find out what her last name is. She is a really close friend of the girl who was Cotillion Queen when you were King - I can't remember her name. I'll bet it's really getting pretty in Providence now and I know Patrice must be getting excited to have graduation coming soon - does she have a Summer job yet?
Well - Little Rock has finally seen the light and they have proposed that we go back to neighborhood schools - if everything is approved Brady will be a neighborhood school again with kindergarten through third grade and then fourth through sixth will be bussed to Rockefeller school. They are trying to stop the white flight and think this will do it. There will be four completely black schools and there is a lot of talk that the Federal Gov't won't let them do it. They are going to change Booker Jr. High to a Primary School and assign the students who are going there now to the other Junior Highs in Little Rock. Roy - can you imagine Booker as a Primary School? Booker and Mann have been two of the most talked about schools during this period of bussing and now they are going to close Booker there is a lot of sentiment being expressed by the students who are going there. The schools here have deteriorated so badly they have to do something. Parkview is going to get a new principal and the one nominated by our Superintendent now is a black woman!!!!
What do you all think about the Falkland Island Crises???? With Johnny getting the age of enlisting in the draft it really is frightening. Roy - they would surely let you finish school before you would have to serve wouldn't they? We found out that the Malstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana is a Strategic air command base so that means there will be plans flying out more often that a regular base won't there?
Daddy had Dr. Griffin fit him for a hearing aid - one that fits right inside your ear - it should be ready sometime this week - I'm more excited than he his!!!! Carol (his sister) called the other night about midnight our time to tell him about a statue being put up in Manti of the mortal Moroni and he kept saying, "That's wonderful" and when I tease.
