April 25, 1982 Little Rock, Ark.
Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna & Jessie, Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barbara Jean and Roy,
It's a typical rainy Sunday and really quite cold - I have noticed the cold weather during April this year more than any other - probably because we took all of our jackets and sweaters to Utah thinking we would surely have hot weather here - the cold is so penetrating when it's raining. We had to put our clocks ahead one house this morning and we have noticed the difference.
Bishop Russ Tolman and their three little boys were to church this morning and they are really a darling family. Russ is moving from a job in New York to be Executive Director of two Children's Hospitals in Fort Worth, Texas - he told Lynn that his salary was going to be two and a half times higher than when he was Director of Children's Hospital here in Little Rock. They asked him to speak this morning on the spur of the moment and he can say more in two minutes than most of our speakers can say in two house.
Annie - I find myself thinking about you all the time - it won't be long now and we are so excited! When the ph0ne rings now I always think it might be Ron calling us to give us the news - I would give anything if we were closer so we could help.
Jeannie - we'll be thinking about you this week too and hope that your brief stay in the hospital won't be too bad. You know what to expect and I guess that makes it easier if that's possible.
Roy - have you had this week off or will it be this next week???? We know you had a week's vacation the last of April and we hope you have been able to have some kind of a diversion and some rest. We're looking forward to being with you for probably just one day and we'll work around your schedule and will let you know when we'll get there - could you make reservations for us in that same motel that we stayed in for your graduation? I have to teach (not teach, but get the room in order for Summer) on June 4th and we may leave that night or early the morning of June 5th - we'd like to stop at the world's Fair in Nashville for a little while if we can. We're trying to talk Johnny into coming with us but he wants to have his birthday party on June 5th and then just enjoy his last week in Little Rock and since it is very likely that he could come to your graduation next year we have decided we'll let him stay home.
We went to Janie Nance's wedding at Trapnall Hall yesterday - there weren't very many people there but then it can't accommodate very many. She really looked pretty in a dress that her mother made - Ann Kathleen (her sister) flew in from BYU to be her only attendant. The refreshments were out of this world - really elaborate. Bishop Keith McKell performed the ceremony and he did an excellent job. Before her wedding we went to a 40th Wedding Anniversary party for Garland and Eldean Woodwin - do you remember them? Pete and Nell Wiggins were there and the Corpiers and other "old" friends.
Cissy and Charles Beyers came over Friday night and had dinner with us - they are planning our farewell party and we're so worried that they are going to too much trouble and expense and we really don't think anyone is going to come. It's going to be May 29th at the Stake Center and you'll get an invitation so you will have it for your posterity - Ha! Kim Aday and John Sherwood are having their reception that same night only theirs is going to be in Little Rock and ours is going to be in Jacksonville. The Ward Relief Society was planning something for the 15th and we have said "No - only one church party". Dorothy and Dan and Maxine and Roy Bass are having a neighborhood party on May 22nd. This is going to be a really hard month for us - we really don't like going away parties!!!!
Our house hasn't sold yet - the man who gave us an offer has decided to buy one in California instead. There have been a million who have gone though it and the yard is at its very prettiest so if it doesn't sell it must be the market or something (I'm convinced it isn't priced too high). We'll keep it vacant through the Summer and have Bob and Claire care for it and try to sell it and if it doesn't sell we'll rent it - maybe!!! Bob and Claire are doing fine - he has a job at a hospital in Benton where he stays overnight to be on call and they pay him $70 - just once a week - he's happy about it. Little Michael is a doll - will be walking soon - he's so happy all the time. All the news - we love you all so very much, PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Let us know if we can help you.
