April 18, 1982 Little Rock, Ark.

Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna & Jessie, Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barbara Jean and Roy,

It is a rainy afternoon and we have had an open house to sell our home - the real estate lady said there were twelve couples who came to go through it. I'm sure it will sell soon but I am kinda' hoping it doesn't - we could probably do better financially if we rented it for awhile. We decided to go one a picnic with Bob and Claire since it was better if we didn't stay at home - we got a bucket of chicken and went to Murray's Park - they were having a kite flying contest so there were a million people there - we didn't stay long - as John said, there were mostly river rats there!!!!

We talked to Jeannie and Rick this week and we hope Roy and the Woolleys are doing fine - the Weinerts had taken Ricky and Barji to the Salt Lake Zoo and it sounded like so much fun - Jeannie had a happy birthday!!!! It sounds like the weather in Utah is better than out weather here - we have had a lot of rain and cold.

Daddy has to give a talk at a fireside in Searcy tonight - he wants me to go with him so I'll have to finish this when I get home - It's about sixty miles up there and I would rather stay home but-------.

10 p.m. We just came home - really a sweet group of people but I thought they would never get started - Daddy gave a wonderful talk - it was held in one of the member's homes and it was really crowded. One of the sister missionaries told me all about the missionary activity in Yellowstone park - she has been going to the park every year for the last twenty years and she said the missionaries have been known to hold baptisms in Yellowstone Lake - ugh!!!!

Cissy and Charles Beyers are coming over for dinner tomorrow night - they are planning a Stake Farewell party for us and they want to tell us what they have planned. Dorothy & Dan are having a neighborhood party for us - these parties are going to be harder than the whole three year mission. Cissy called from Hot Springs the other day and told me she wanted some family pictures of us through the years we have lived in Little Rock and also some mementos of our work in the church here - I told her we had plenty of them and they are all in Utah - everything like that was packed really early. They wanted to have a table in the cultural hall with these things on it. We are going to try to talk her out of a big extravagance because we really don't think people are going to come - it will be on May 29th and the next night many of them will be leaving on the temple trip and the Thursday before will be the big Leadership meeting. People are so busy and we understand!!! Did I tell you that David Bass is going to New Orleans (Tulane University) to do his internship and will be gone for three years - he has changed his mind about radiology and will go into internal medicine - so the party will be for him too.


Kim Aday is getting married and there is going to be bridal shower for her next week - I am so glad because she ha s been a participant in so-o-o many showers and now it's her turn. She is really happy and he is a neat guy- John Sherwood Jr.

Claire's father was put in as Stake President is one of the Houston Stakes today - her mother called her yesterday to tell her. I'm sure that will be a big surprise to many people in the stake because they have only been there a few months - I believe it was a stake division. That is really an honor for him.

Things have really calmed down around here and it seems so good - I am busy reaching and Daddy is busy reading the scriptures - they told us to "re-read" the standard works and he has just about finished doing that. I am still on the firs part of I Nephi in the Book of Mormon and I have to re-learn each time I start - I tease the kids in my reading classes and tell them I have to re-teach everything each Monday because they forget it over the weekend and I'm worse than they are.

It's time to go to bed and besides I don't have any more news. We love you all so much and worry about you and hope that everything is going good - please let us know if we can help you in any way - PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO!!!!
