Little Rock, Arkansas
Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna & Jessie, Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barbara Jean and Roy,
It won't be long until I will have to use two spaces for my salutation with the arrival of the new little Woolley - we are so anxious for our newest little grandchild and we're kinda' glad he isn't due until the first of May because that way we'll see him before he gets too old!!! We'll be just as happy if he turns out to be a sweet little she!!!!
Bob and Claire just left - they came for dinner after our meetings and then we drove to "Wye" Mountain to see the daffodils - we really missed their peak though and most of them were gone - we have been there in previous years when the whole mountain has been completely yellow and it's just gorgeous but we were a little late this year. We came back byway of Little Italy and Roland and that is really beautiful country - Michael wasn't too happy on the ride so they left to put him to bed - they have been in Memphis this week-end for Claire's business and he had had too much riding. Daddy fixed the dinner and it was so-o-o good - baked chicken, dressing, sweet potatoes, gravy, mandarin orange salad and the works - I keep telling him they should make me Mission President and let him cook for the missionaries!!!!
We talked to each one of you yesterday and it was so wonderful to hear your support and interest in our mission - I missed your call Annie but Daddy said you were doing fine. Roy we appreciated your call - I'll look for some good recipes using black eyed peas and if I find some I'll send them - have you ever tasted "hoppin johns"? That is a casserole with black eyed peas and I love it - most of my recipe books are packed but I can find that one I'll see that you get it - it is strictly Southern. Lentils are really good for you and they are a cheap substitute (sp.?) for meats and probably better for you. Little Ricky is so cute on the phone and we can hardly wait to see him and Barji and Susanna and Jessie - Daddy says that Jessie talked yesterday just like Susanna does!!!!
Our home is really looking bare - Johnny came home one day last week and found his dresser mirror was packed - I guess this is a good way of becoming accustomed to our move gradually. We had an older couple come by one evening last week and they are looking for a home for their brother and his wife who are moving here from California - they seem like the most likely prospects so far - their brother is coming out soon to look at homes and he wanted them to see some first. Daddy wants to sell it but I will be heart broken when it finally sells - it isn't so bad just having it for sale but when someone comes really likes it, it just kills me. Do you remember the one sink upstairs that didn't work? It is in the master bedroom bathroom and we have just always used the one sink - well, Daddy worked on it one day last week and figured out what was wrong and fixed it - we paid a plumber $100 one time to come fix it and he could only get it to drip and since then, even the drip stopped. Daddy can do anything he really wants to!!! The yard is just manicured and he clipped the dogs and also put some plantings in the flowerbeds and it is just beautiful - front and back. We still don't know what we're going to do with Hans and Ludie if we go out of the states - if we go in the states I believe we'll take them with us if we are allowed to - they are "show dogs"!!!!
We had a really sweet card from your folks Ron and appreciate it so much. We also had a letter from Joanne and Dave Doxey and it was filled with encouragement and optimism and that really helps at this point. Daddy is going to get the U-Haul truck this coming Thursday and he is hiring a man who works from Brandons to come help supervise and help with placing the things in the truck - we'll leave here some time Saturday and should get in Utah probably Sunday or Monday. Johnny doesn't leave for Colorado until noon on Saturday so we will wait until we can get him to one of his friends before we take off - otherwise we'd leave really early.
I wasn't going to start another page but I remembered about Janie Nance's upcoming wedding. I went to a shower for her out at Floy McKell's home on Friday night and it was like it was seventeen years ago - Nell Wiggins, Margie Stewart, Barbara Andrews and of course the McKells and the Culwells. Janie is marrying her business partner - Al? - they have been in the counseling and social work business together for about ten years - he has been married before and has older children so he is a good deal older than she is. He isn't a member of the church. They are going to have the wedding at Trapnall Hall and Bishop McKell is going o marry them - sometime in April. Did I tell you that Kim Aday is getting married to John Sherwood Jr. sometime in May - they are going to the Mesa Temple.
Janie is still Janie - but much prettier.
Daddy had a phone call from someplace in Georgia one night last week - a BYU classmate of
Ann's had read about Daddy's new calling in the Church News and called to see if he was related to Ann. We have received so many wonderful notes and phone calls from wonderful friends and relatives but not one word from my family - I still can't believe it!!!!
The Stakes is financing a "satellite" for a video coverage of the women's special broadcast this coming Saturday from Salt Lake and our Ward is trying to come up with $600 to finance one for conference sessions the next week-end from Salt Lake. This completely "boggles" my mind and I'm glad I don't have to understand how it works but it is really wonderful for the people in this area to be able to have complete coverage of all the conference sessions - we hope they will be able to get and then we hope enough people will attend to make it worthwhile. We have had the radio coverage of all the sessions for the past two or three years and only a handful come to listen to it.
I think that is all the news - we love you all very much and appreciate your support and patience - I'm sure we must seem preoccupied with our own personal plans and problems at this time but we'll get over it. WE'LL ALL BE RELIEVED WHEN WE FIND OUT WHERE WE'RE GOING!!!! PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO AND LET US KNOW IF WE CAN HELP YOU IN ANY WAY.
