Little Rock, Ark.
Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna & Jessie, Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barbara Jean and Roy,
Well - the Thanksgiving Holiday is over and we had a wonderful time - having two days off work was really fun but I didn't get all the things done that I had wanted to. Bob and Claire and little Michael came over for dinner - Claire brought the rolls, pumpkin and lemon meringue pies and salad - and we ate and ate and ate!!!! Claire and I took Michael for a long walk and the men all slept and planned their duck hunting - it was a fun day. They went duck hunting Friday morning but came home early because we were having a scripture study group at our home that night and Daddy knew I needed help and he had to give the lesson we served homemade rolls with turkey, ham and things for sandwiches, cheese dip and fudge but there weren't very many who came. They all left about 10:00 p.m. and Bob, Dad, and John left for the Black River and more duck hunting - they slept in the car!!!! I kept little Michael yesterday because Claire had to work and they got home about 7 last night but they hadn't had much luck - they said the ducks were there but wouldn't come down. Bob is looking forward to his Christmas vacation so he can go again - they have fun even if they don't get any ducks.
Roy - thanks for calling - we surely hope you had a happy, fun time at Patrice's home. It's too bad you had to be back Thursday night - sounds like you really are on a busy schedule Robert came over - he has called when he first got here - he seemed to think you might be coming home for Thanksgiving. His whole family was here - even Gammy from North Carolina - and he said every bed was used - he seemed to rally enjoy everyone and that's unusual for Robert. He looks good and is really excited about going to Italy for the next Semester - he leaves for New York and couple days before New years and will stay there for two weeks and want to go see you in Rhode Island on the train. We keep running into Mrs. Springer and she always asks about you - it would be nice if you could go see her.
Annie - did you all have run in Idaho - we can just imagine how much fun that would be for Susanna and Jessie - with their little cousins and Grandma Bev and Grandpa Russell - did you help prepare any of the dinner? We will be thinking about you on your birthday this Thursday and hope that your open house for the Relief Society goes well - I can't imagine how you will be able to get everything done but knowing you, you will!!!! Do you have to prepare any refreshment for them? Jif you want your home to really smell "holidayish" simmer some apple cider punch with whole cloves and cinnamon sticks.
Jennie - did you cook a turkey? We surely hope you are feeling good. They had a big parade and a welcome to Santa Clause at Park Plaza the day after Thanksgiving and Daddy and I talked about how excited Ricky will be this year for Christmas. I'll bet you will put your tree up pretty soon - you have always had it up early before. I would like to get a new tree this year (artificial) but I don't think we will - ours is really quite old and falling apart. How's your basement projects coming - are you going to make draperies? We are so anxious to see it.
Johnny didn't go to the Hall-Central Thanksgiving Day game - we were really surprised but he would rather sleep late. Central won the game 15 - 0. It was a beautiful day and everyone was so excited - I couldn't help remember the many, many stormy and cold days Jennie went in her cheerleading and cheer-o-kee uniforms and nearly froze to death. Johnny is spending a lot of time playing basketball at the Boy's club and he really loves it. He wants so much to go skiing in Colorado with the "Young Life" group - I believe that will be in February - we have told him he must choose between that and the BYU camp this year and so far he hasn't made his decision.
The store are rally crowded with Christmas shoppers - Claire says that the sales at Cohn's are down and that's hard to believe with all the people shopping there. She has been clerking at the Cohn's Mall on University and at McCaine Mall and enjoy helping people choose gifts - she only does that when she is free at the office and they're super busy. She says turquoise jewelry and patriotic colors are going to be "in" in the Spring!!!
I'm still at Rightsell and I shudder to think I must take down all my thanksgiving thing tomorrow and prepare Christmas bulletin boards - ugh!! The kids are so excited thought and they're fun to teach. Wow - my paper is gone! PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO!!!
