Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna & Jessie, Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barbara Jean and Roy,
We are having the most beautiful Fall weather - cool and crisp and the leaves are just gorgeous - it is typical football weather and last night was big game between the Razorbacks and Baylor and it was really something, each team ahead off and on all during the game and in the last seventeen seconds of play the Razorbacks kicked a filed goal to win 41-39. Bob and Claire were over but had to leave before the game was over so they didn't know who won until they got home.
Roy - I notice the typing is too heavy and some of the letters are being "typed off" but if I don't set it this way, the carbon copies are so faint they can hardly be read!!! We surely hope things great for you and that you like "internal medicine" - that's what you're in right now isn't it???? There are so many people at church who haven't met our family that we're anxious to have you home for the holidays to show you off.
Ann - it was so fun to talk to you yesterday and we appreciate your getting the Shelton' address for us - we have decided it must be the Joe Sheltons (they were so nice to us last Summer and kept bringing us fresh vegetables from their garden and we wanted to send them some pecans). That little Susanna - I asked her if she could play in her sand bog or if it were covered with snow and she started talking about the polar bears she had seen in the museum - so cute!!! Johnny said that Jessie talked to him some. We're happy that Mini is better and also that Beverly and Russell I could have a little vacation. We're anxious to see your original painting - we're impressed to have someone in our family own on original.
Jean - we surely hope you are feeling good. There is a big article in our paper today about the Arkansas Dietetic Association - are you still active in that? A little boy in our Primary today had a dummy "Charlie" and he gave a little talk throwing his voice and I though about little Ricky - he is such a "natural" with people I'll bet he would be good at that. We can see Barji in little Michael when he miles - I keep remarking to Daddy about how remarkable that is and he keeps reminding me that, after all, they are all related.
Claire leaves for New York this afternoon and will be gone all week - she is really a busy gal - she spent yesterday morning in the Stake Relief Society Meetings - she's the Stake Homemaking Leader and then hurried to work - she works six days a week. Bob is doing really good - he started a new rotation but still has good hours, 8 'til 5 - when he was in ob-gyn he had horrible hours so this is much easier. There is young man in the mental part of the University hospital who is from the Hot Sprints Ward and they asked Daddy and Bob to go see him and Daddy said it was really interesting to see how professional Bob is in a situation like that - Bob just finished the psychiatry rotation.
Johnny is doing really good - he got his report card and it was a-shock to him to find out that High School teachers grade a little harder than his former teachers. He did really well in everything except English and Miss Popperfuss (that's really her name) gave him a "c" - I am secretly happy about it - he doesn't think you have to read in order to be an outstanding student and I have been telling him otherwise for the last ten but he has finally found an English teacher who can tell he isn't reading - they studied "A Separate Peace" and he tried to get by on Cliff notes!!! He has spent more time in his bedroom than in the den watching television last night - she is a nationally ranked gymnast and we watched her friend was on television last night - she is a nationally ranked gymnast and we watched her win everything she competed in. Her name is Beth Pope and her father is a plastic surgeon.
Daddy and I went to the Woods for dinner on Friday night - Maxine and Roy Bass have been here and that was the occasion. It was really fun to sit and visit with them. Terry Woods' dog was expecting puppies and they were all deformed and had to be put to sleep. Roy is so much younger than when Janie was ali.
We went over to Bob and Claire's for dinner last Monday night and visited with the Erlls - they are happy to be back in the Sakes and are looking forward to living in Houston. They are trying to seal their home in Denver so they can buy one in Houston - they also have to buy two cars because they sold the ones they had in England.
We had a sweet letter from Carol Ann Willardsen and she said that little Jimmy
Braithwaite was doing just great - he has to have a few more radiation treatments and then he will be ready to go back to school. Isn't that wonderful!!! She also said that their older daughter, Memory, is in Provo going to beauty school - they are very happy to have her there. Art and two of their boys may come here to go duck hunting if it's good - it doesn't start until Nov. 24th and Daddy has said he will let them know if it's going to be good - that's Thanksgiving week but it goes into December.
I'm still in that grade class. I had Thursday and Friday off and really enjoyed being home but didn't get very much accomplished - I made some slacks about a month ago and have had the jacket nearly done for a long time but I can't seem to settle down and finish it - there are always so many more fun things to do.
Donna Mcabe (Green) and her husband and two little boys left this week for a new home in Baton Rouge, La. He is in the furniture business and I guess they are in a real slump right now - we hated to see Donna leave but we didn't ever get to see her husband.
Dave and Laura haven't sold their home yet - we wouldn't be surprised if they decided to stay here- he isn't doing very well and they say they need to move but we seriously doubt if they have anything any better in
Arizona.
Ludi and Hans are so contented in the back yard - it is so fun to watch them play and they never bark unless someone comes in the yard. Do you remember the little winging door leading into their house by heater in the storage room? Ludi will not go in there by himself nor will he come out by himself - we thought maybe he would when the weather got really cold but he will stand our right by it and wait until someone comes and lifts it up and says "Okay, Ludi you can go in now", and in the mornings we can hear him whining to come out but he absolutely will not come out until you life the door and say, "Okay, Ludi you can come out now". He is the sweetest little dog and we think he is so afraid he is going to do something wrong that he won't do anything until we tell him to - not by the largest stretch of our imagination can we ever imagine him biting that little girl because he is so sweet. The Woods are constantly coming through our yard and it's always Hans who barks fiercely and growls at them but never Ludi. Have you heard from that family since they moved Ann & Ron?
I can't think of any more news. Daddy is going to speak to the Stake Young Adults tonight His subject is "Your Calling and Election Made Sure" and I would like to hear it because I don't know anything about that but I have so many things to do and it's over in Jacksonville at the Stake Center. He is constant demand as a teacher and a speaker - he is enjoying being able to do more things then he could when he was so busy as Stake President. His ear isn't any better and he's kinda' discouraged about that but he does have one good ear.
We can't decide if we like cable television - there are way too may "R" films on it but none watches them - Johnny loves the outdoor films and Daddy like the "shot em ups" and I don't care for any of it.!!!
We surely do love each one of you - hope everything is going great - please let us know if there is anything you need or anything we can do for you and PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO!!!
