July 13, 1981 Little Rock. Ark.
Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna, Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barji and Roy,
This has been an eventful week - we found our dogs on Tuesday and we were so thrilled - we hadn't stopped searching for them even thinking we might find them alongside the road having been hit by a car. What happened was that a school teacher who lives in back of the Macdonald's on Cantrell found them early Sunday morning and she played out side with them for most of the day thinking someone would come looking for them - that is about the only place in Western Little
Rock that we didn't go. She called the Animal Shelter or report them missing but they didn't have access to the records until Tuesday because of Labor Day holiday - the
dog tag that Hans was wearing had the rabies number on it and that was coded back to our Veterinarian - we had called the Vet so they could give her our names immediately. She couldn't get the animal shelter until after she got to her school so we had to wait until school was out before we could get them .the tag Ludi was wearing had the Woolleys phone number on it and she called that and got a lady out of bed who said she didn't even own a dog. It taught us a very good lesson and Daddy spent all day Tuesday putting a spring on out gate so it would Spring closed and also putting locks on all the state and Bob went to the pet store and got us some tags that e will have engraved with their names and our phone number and address on them - we all just cried when we got them!!!
Daddy is doing great after his ear surgery - this is what they did - they replaced the stirrup with a stainless steel plunger with a fish hook on the end of it - you can tell this is not the professional definition but maybe it makes sense to you. I took him over on Wed. afternoon and they did the surgery Thursday morning and we brought him home on Friday. He really hasn't felt very good and looks really tired but Jim said it would take at least week to ten days to gain his strength back - they won't give him a hearing test for another six weeks but Jim said he expects really good results. It will surely man a lot to him if he will be able to hear in that ear - it's his right ear and he has been deaf in that one for most of his life. Jim says there is an 80% change of greatly improved hearing, 10% chance of no improvement and 10% chance of dizziness and worse hearing - It w as worth it to him to try to improve it. it's a
hereditary (sp.?0 weakness and has helped all his sisters.
Claire is going to New York today - we will take her to the airport at 4 o'clock and then bring Michael home until tomorrow - Bob went into the hospital early this morning and works for 24 hours - really, we're going to try to keep the baby tomorrow too so he can sleep all day - otherwise he'll cry to sleep and take care of him at the same time. They're so independent they probably won't let us. Claire will be home on Friday - she has thirty bottles of breast milk frozen in her freezer to last until she gets home. Michael is going great - growing like a little weed and he is so-o-o god. It will be fun to have him here.
Linda Garrett just come over with a banana pudding for us - I gave her a permanent one day last week and she is so thrilled with it. it was the first one she had ever had and I was really worried about it but it turned out just great and she looks so cute with it - it's a really curly one and she has always worn her hair so straight.
We have new family in the ward - their last name is Firmage and he is on sabbatical leave from Colby College in Maine - he teaches biology and is doing some reassert here on a private grant. They have a son John's age and he was over last night - really a nice young man - we asked him if had herd of Brown University since Maine and Rhode Island are close together and the said Colby played Brown in some of their sports.
There really isn't much news - Daddy and I haven't taught yet but we're ready now (I am anyway - Daddy will have to wait another week). John is living school - went to the football game and dance on Friday night and then last night three of his girl friends came over to see him - he was at a seminary dance so they stayed here and waited until 11:30 when he came home - darling girls who live in Robinwood but go to Hall (transferred from St. Mary's). we had that "Chamberlain" man come from Utah to give a presentation on Joseph Smith last night and they asked us to house him from Friday until Sunday - I was glad I has the excuse of Daddy operation to say "no" - the Gonces did it. we didn't go to the presentation but we have hear differences of opinion on it - some liked it and some said it was boring - have you seen it, Woolleys and Weinerts?
John was supposed to got to it but instead he brought his seminary class over here to stay until the dance!!! We surely do love each one of you - we hope.
