Little Rock, Ark.
Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna, & Jessie,
Rick, Jean, Ricky & Barbara Jean,
and Roy,
would you believe, I am upstairs in the bedroom with a coat on to type this - it has really turned cold. They keep broadcasting weather bulletins on the television and it's so windy that it seem more like Mach and April and tornado weather.
Today's is Mother's Day - thank you all so much for remembering - it is such a great honor to me to be your mother - I realize more each day how really special you are and Daddy and I appreciate and love you so much. Daddy gave a beautiful talk in Sacrament Meeting this morning - it is really nice having him with us. I got a food processor for Mother's Day - a Cuisinart - and I know that is much too extravagant for Mother's Day but I am so thrilled with it - in about one minute it shredded cabbage, lettuce and carrots for our dinner. Frances James had one and she said it just saved her hours in food preparation and I believe it. I want to bring it to Utah when we come so he can take advantage of all the fresh vegetables out there to make salad with. Bob came over and had dinner with us - he and Claire came over last night, and brought a rhubarb pie Claire had made that was delicious. Claire left this morning for New York for this next week - her doctor has made arrangements with a doctor up there in case she needs one - I really worry about her but Bob seems to thing she will be okay. This will be her last trip until after the baby is born - they are both getting excited and they're talking the Lamaze 9sp.?) classes - the doctor says June 6th now. Bob starts at the VA Hospital on Roosevelt a week from tomorrow - he will stop working after this week - he is really looking forward to his hospital experience.
David just called for John to go with him to the park to "play" with his big parachute - it's windy and they have so much fun with that thing - it's a real one David got from an army surplus store or someplace. David gets his MD this next Saturday it doesn't seem possible. He has applied for a residency here in Radiology - Bob says they have a program here that requires an extra year before beginning residency in radiology and I guess that's what he wants. John really enjoys David and David is so good to him - Johnny didn't go to his prom at Forest Heights last Friday and we felt so bad - he said he didn't want to go because the "blacks" would just take it over - I know that's true but I wish he had gone. They have started these proms for the ninth graders and the students at Mann were really excited. He didn't go to the Seminary graduation dance last night either - he said that was mostly for the graduates - his friend Susan Smith came up from Fordyce for it and when he wasn't there she called and asked if she could come over so she did and they watched television. Susan is Deanna Smith's daughter - I'm sure Ann and Jean remember her but probably not you Roy - she is 16 and is absolutely gorgeous - she and her sister Shawna are both really pretty (Shawna won the Arkansas Jr. Miss for that area) and they invited Ronnie and John to spend a night and day with them last Summer so they did and had a ball. They are both going to Youth Conference and I'm sure that's part of the reason John wants to go - they're also going out to Provo for the BYU Tennis Camp. I don't know if it's that same one that Jimmy and Johnny are going to but if they can arrange it I'm sure they will.
I feel so bad that I missed Susanna's phone call last week - Daddy can't get over how "grown-up" she sounds - we're so afraid that she and Ricky, Barbara Jean and Jessie will be all grown up before we get out there.
Our renters haven't paid their rent for several months so Daddy wrote to them and said he wanted to have them out of the house by May 9th - they called and said they would pay their back rent and be out by then - well - we can't find them - their things are all in the middle of the floor but Daddy has made a million trips over there and they are nowhere to be found. After they leave we're going to put it up for sale - renting is too big of a headache - we thought they were really nice people but they just are so undependable. I don't have any more news - we love you all so very much - please be really careful in everything you do and let us know if we can help you in any way!!!
