Little Rock, Ark.
Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna, & Jessie,
Rick, Jean, Ricky and Barbara Jean,
and Roy,
We have talked to everyone this week except for the Weinerts and Ann said had talked to them and they are fine - what a wonderful feeling to have you all busy and doing the right things - we're so proud of you.
We thought about Susanna all afternoon yesterday - we can hardly wait to hear about her party - I keep thinking of her with the pink tights wired up to make bunny ears and I'll bet she was a doll (a bunny doll). Halloween birthday parties are so much fun - I remember all the ones you had Roy when you were little and we have a lot of pictures of them. I still get really excited for Halloween - I bought a pumpkin candle the other day and we have it as a centerpiece for all our meals and we have our skeleton light and the pumpkin lights. I really love this time of year - and our weather is finally cooperating - beautiful, cold and crisp. What did Jessie think of all the kids in their costumes? We're dying to get the pictures you say you have sent.
Will you take little Ricky out trick and treating? He's a little young but I'll bet he would have fun. Ann said Susanna was really disappointed that "Ricky Roo" couldn't come to her party - they will really have fun growing up together and sharing each others parties and special times. Barbara Jean and Jessie will too - they will even be in the same grade - how fun!!! Jeannie, I was talking to Sandy Blankenship the other day and she said she was quitting her job because her children cried when she left - she has been working at Carriage House as a hostess and I'm sure she has just been making minimum wage. She couldn't believe that you were still working until I told her it was just a little bit and mostly when Rick was home to care for the children. I hope you won't overdo.
Roy - you must have had a really special birthday. We called early yesterday morning and Tony said they were planning a birthday dinner for you - I think that it is so nice. It surprised me that they eat a lot of lamb - I don't believe I have ever tasted it - Daddy grew up on it but we never buy it - I think it is kinds' hard to get here. The cheese cake that Rich made for you sounds really "gourmet" - we hope you are learning all of this. It was fun talking to you but I really did sense a lot of concern about all your classes. Bob and Claire had come to have dinner with us and we had cooked a big steak and had everything to go with it and Bob had a hard time eating - he is going to have a huge test tomorrow and he was really "uptight" about it. You had just finished a huge test and you were still "uptight". We really admire you for being able to "cope" with such stress and as hard for him as last year was - yet - and he seems to think after this year is over it will get easier - we hope so and we hope that's the case with you too.
Claire went to New York today and will be gone all week - it might be easier for Bob to study. He really has a good deal at the hospital though - he is forced to study at least four hours a night while he is on duty. We went to their home for dinner last Sunday night and it was so nice - she had bought a chuck roast and put in foil and then covered it with the following: 1 pkg. dry
Lipton onion soup, l can of mushroom soup and 1/4 cup A-1 steak sauce. She had baked hers for about 3 hours (you seal the foil good) We got one and we cooked it all day (about 7 hours at 225() and it was delicious.
John went on a Boy Scout Camporee Friday and Saturday - he really had a good time. He is getting "As" in all his classes except English - I wish you were here to help him Ann.
The typewriter is acting up again so I'll finish this in pen.
Daddy & I could teach everyday if we wanted -
he was at Hall & Parkview last week. I took Miss Erdson's class at Brady
for the whole week & I was so relieved when Friday came & then another teacher
came & asked me if I would teach hers next week!!! I really prefer to
teach a different class * got two or three times a week. It's really a
next experience though to go to Brady at 7:30 in the morning & see all the
little children come in for breakfast. The serve free breakfast to all
the little clack children who are bussed from the other side of town - I agree
with that Government "give away program".
Today is "D" day for Aunt Marvel's Will to be
settled - we don't know how it will be handled - whether they will send us the
deeds or what. We really appreciated Ron going to Lehi & looking over
the Meadow and the Pasture & seeing how it had been surveyed. We agreed
to let Don have the East half of the Pasture with us having 1/2 interest in
the Well - he wasn't very happy about it but that's the only way we would
agree to it. We are so relieved to have it over with & we're grateful
for the things she left to us. Now that it is ours we're homesick to go
take care of it.
Next weekend is conference - we'll have Bro.
Pinegar & Bro. Isgrig stay with us & we're planning a buffet luncheon here
after the meetings on Sunday. Daddy & I are always happy when these
things are over!!
We love you all very much! Happy
Halloween!!!
