June 29, 1980 Sunday Little Rock Arkansas
Dearest Ron, Ann, Susanna & Jessie; Rick & Jean; and Roy:
As you can tell, my typewriter is still broken - I tried to use another one we had here but it didn't work either!!!
It's good to be home again but you wouldn't believe how HOT it is!!! We're fine in the house but it's murder outside - it doesn't seem to bother little Ricky though. When we got home from church today I could have wrung him out and his little hair was all wet too - I was alone and had him in his seat in the back seat and the air conditioner wasn't on long enough to cool the car - he just smiled and looked a little bewildered!!! He was fabulous on the trip - slept so good and ate and played - I didn't have to resort to the suckers until we got to Conway and by then he had had it. He is just wonderful to have and we're "loving" every minute of it - I showed him off in church today and EVERYBODY said "He looks so much like Roy and his Grandpa" - that's funny to me because I don't think Roy & Daddy look alike ªanyway they all agree he is a Mellor. Daddy wanted to take him to Searcy but I wouldn't let him because of the heat.
We got here about 2:30 Friday afternoon - we had left Provo at 8:10 Thursday morning. John went to sleep at 8:11 and didn't wake up until Friday morning - we couldn't believe it - he was worn out and a little "pouty" because he had to miss two days of "Boy's World". He REALLY had a good time. Daddy drove most of the way and then left early Saturday morning to go to Memphis for Regional Meetings - he seems to thrive on it except that Garry Powers told me he slept through the meetings.
Roy - is everything going good??? We have tried to call you at least a half dozen times - the line is either busy or you don't answer!!! Robert came over and we had a good visit - he has been really sick with lower intestinal problems and he's thin and doesn't look like he feels very good. I still haven't sent your pictures yet but hopefully I'll get them ready tomorrow. We have shown them to everyone who will take time to look at them!!! We had a wonderful letter from Keith - we hope he'll come see us. How is Ty doing? Are Link & Tony still there - tell them hello for us.
John left today to go to Scout Camp - he hopes to earn two merit badges and then finish up the three he's working on and do his "project" to qualify for his Eagle.
The Smithers had a party for the Sondrups on Saturday night - everyone was to bring "miniatures" to remind them of the family and then Marilyn Harris is going to put them all in a shadow box - we got a little bible and put pictures in it. They spoke in church tonight and plan to leave around the 11th. We'll really miss them.
Ann - Bob was so thrilled with the Family Relations material - what a help for the teacher!!! I made your Swiss cheese sandwiches for the Beyers tonight and they loved them. I'm anxious to show my sock doll and doll carriers.
Jean - thanks so much for sewing up all my things - if you have a little girl I'll save it for her.
Woolleys and Weinerts - we really loved being with you and appreciate SO much all you did for us.
Roy - WE MISS YOU!!!
We love you all so very much.
