January 1, 1980 New Year's Day

Dearest Ron, Ann & Susanna;

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S DAY!!!!

What a beautiful, beautiful Christmas you sent to us - we have never seen anything like those pillows and we're so proud of them. You are absolutely a doll to plan those and make them for us - Johnny said you showed them to him last Summer so we know they have taken some planning and a lot of work. It really makes me realize that I must get busy and get my fourth generation up to date. I think I have it here someplace but if I don't I'm going to get it. Do you have the address of the place where you bought them? I have had a lot of people ask me. I love the beautiful eyelet too and you did a beautiful job of making them-we're so proud of you and them!!!

I have my spool holder up and it's really something - I can't imagine anything so handy and I'll really love it. Bob and Claire are thrilled with their ice chest too. You did a great job with your gifts - so thoughtful!!!

The Weinerts left yesterday afternoon. Ricky was sick with an ear infection Sunday night and Jeannie was up with him all night - we took him to the Doctor Monday (this) morning and he gave him some medicine. I hope he travels good because Jean is worn out and I'm sure Rick didn't sleep very well either.

We have loved their visit - Ricky is such a sweet baby - so cuddly and fun to hold. They weren't here long enough to do everything we wanted to do but it's wonderful they would come. Jeannie told us that you were going to care for Ricky while she's in the hospital - we're so grateful you have each other to lean on - we're going to be close enough in about 3 years!!!

We were invited to an open house at the Beyers in Hot Springs for New Year's Eve and also to the Gonces - would you believe we went to both of them??? It was fun to drive to Hot Springs and their party was fun. We really brought the New Year in at the Gonces. Johnny was invited to the Cavenesses to spend the night so we were "foot loose and fancy free" for the first time in 15 years. Bob and Claire went to the Garrets for dinner and Roy went "party hopping".

We think the 80's will bring a lot of changes in our lives but they'll be good ones and we're looking forward to it. We hope they '11 be good for you too and we're sure they will be!!! We're so excited to hear about your new home. I can just imagine the fun you're having arranging your furniture and all. I ' 11 bet Susanna is having a ball with so much room to roam. We're home sick for her!!!

Roy will leave Saturday afternoon to go back - he has really enjoyed himself more this time than he has for a long, long time! He has been dating different girls and I'm glad about that - one he has told us about is a sophomore medical student who goes here - he worked with her here at the V. A. hospital last year and I believe he really enjoys her - her name is Susan Brady. He also dated Elizabeth Hardy whose father is Minister of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church - she goes to the University of Colorado at Boulder. The Prothros gave him a Christmas gift and Jill has called but he hasn't seen her yet - I hope that is over!!!

We love you all so very much - we missed you but we're looking forward to April when we'll get to help with your new one and become more "Grandparently" to Susanna.

Thanks so very much for your wonderful Christmas. Lots of love, Dad XO, Mom XO, John XO and Roy XO.
