Little Rock, Arkansas
Dearest Ron, Ann & Susanna, Rick, Jean & Ricky and Roy,
This will be a super short note - I went to Jacksonville with daddy this morning about ten o'clock and we didn't get home until six - then right after we had something to eat Bob and Claire came over and we all went out to the Cobbs for an open house to welcome home their son Rick from his mission. It's already ten o'clock!!!! Roy, Rick looks quite different - his hair is really short and he is very thin - he's glad to be home even though he leaves this week-end for Provo where he will start school on the "Block" system - he said to tell you Hello. I don't like meetings like we had today - they just go on and on - I told John I would be home by two o'clock - he is such a good little guy - he rides his moped to Priesthood, Sunday School and Sacrament Meeting.
Daddy really did love his visit with the Woolleys and Weinerts last week-end - he has promised me he has some good pictures of Ricky and Susanna and we should get our pictures back this week so I'm anxious to see them. It really tickled me to have him tell about little Susanna - she sounds so much like you were Ann - he said he couldn't believe how such a little bit of
potatoes and few peas could cover an entire kitchen. I'm anxious for a report on what your regular doctor has to say after he examines her - you take her tomorrow don't you??? Little Ricky must be doll too - daddy says he is so fun to told and care for. We loved your surprise phone call Jeannie - you all sound so happy and busy. I'll be glad when you get feeling better Annie - that is so hard on the entire family but it's worth it!!!!
Our home is beginning to take shape - we well papered the living room last week - it looks very different and you either really like it or you definitely don't - I love it and so does daddy and that's all that matters. We had a hard time with the wall paper and some of it doesn't look so good - we got to a certain point and ran out of it - we were really upset because it is in a very conspicuous
spot and if there is the slightest difference in the coloring it will show. The decorator at Carriage House apologized all over the place but they still had to order it and it won't be here until the first of the week. They're going to put our carpet in on Tuesday and we are really going to be in a mess that day - we have to move all the furniture out of all the rooms and where we're going to put it I will never know!!!! There is still a lot left to be done and we are in the middle of plans for conference and this next week-end our Regional Representative will be here and he and another man will stay with us. Boyd packer is going to come the following week-end and the Stake board is going to serve dinner to the high council and their wives along with Bro. Packer - there will be forty people in all. I have to arrange for the Nursery for conference and tonight Bob learned that he is in change of the Junior Sunday School for conference - we'll all really be happy when it's over and it's two weeks away - oh me!!!!
Roy - how's school coming????? We know you are super busy because we know how busy Bob is - he has a biochemistry test this Tuesday and he was worried about it tonight. Claire is so much support to him - we really admire her. She had a day off last Thursday and she brought their Vega over and washed and waxed it - I don't know many young women who would do that - she works long hours at the store but she never complains. At relief society the other day, Marge Lucas said, "you are really lucky to have such an optimistic and happy girl for a daughter-in-law - she is always calling Barbie and Marilyn about something at Mutual and she makes everything so exciting for them they just love her" - she said it in front of the entire Relief Society and they all agreed. Bob studies all the time!!!!
They asked to me act as a hostess at the Med center last Thursday for the "doctors conference" - it was really fun. A lot of the rural communities had set up booths telling about their opportunities and everything to try
to encourage the Med Students to plan to practice there - I was interested in a place called "Hot Springs Village" - it is a community of 2500 people and most of them are wealthy and retired and there is only one doctor there and he wants to retire - I got n envelope of their propaganda for you Roy. It is a treat for me to be involved there - sorta' like PTA only a lot more interesting and fun. Bob came by while I was there and had some doughnuts - he says he isn't interested in practicing in a rural community of Arkansas.
We surely do love each one of you and hope you'll be careful in everything you do. Let us know if we can do anything for you.
