July 1, 1979 - Little Rock

Dearest Ron, Ann & Susanna and Rick & Jean,

It is Sunday night and Daddy and Roy are watching "Moses, the Law Giver" on television. Johnny went to Boy Scout camp this afternoon and the house is really quite without him. He was really excited about going though and we're thrilled about that - he's really getting interested in Scouting -I have thought about Rick all day as I watched the Scout Leaders helping the boys - it was a year ago about this time when you were so involved in your Scout Troop Rick. Boy - am I ever thank - full for good leaders. The boys are going to cook all their own meals - they only had to pay about twenty dollars for the week for the food - I can't imagine what they're going to eat but when John gets good and hungry he will eat anything!!!! They come home next Saturday about noon.

We were so thrilled to have; you call a few minutes ago Jeannie - it sounds as though you're doing great!!!! I had a good visit with Sister Viola Wilson last night and she told me that her daughter-in-law has had her last two children that way - she said it was called "circlause" - anyway she has done really well - she had two before and then started having miscarriages. She goes to a specialist in Kansas City, Mo. That Viola says it famous.

Ron, Ann and Susanna - you're probably leaving for Idaho this week - we hope you have fun time. I know the Woolleys will have a fun time with Susanna. We're anxious to see some of the home plans you are looking at - that is so exciting. Daddy passed his Real Estate Examination so he could probably answer some of your questions. We sorta' hate to see you sell your home - I love that home!!!!

We have decided to not go on the temple trip - there was so many complications that we decided to wait and go on the next one the last of August or in October. They have a bus going and it is full and they don't expect to have any problems getting gas but some of the private cars that are going may have trouble and we didn't think it was wise to risk that right now. Chris and Wayne Smith have started building their home and we think they wanted to stay and work on it and besides that Chris has had some kind of a virus and hasn't felt well. So-o-o-o we're on ready and could come whenever you need us.

We haven't told you about the "Mellor" reunion in Manti starting Friday, July 13th - we knew the Weinerts wouldn't be able to attend and hopefully the Woolleys have heard about it. the Mormon Miracle Pageant is that night and Carol is responsible for arranging for all the Mellors to sit together - we have sent in our reservations. Saturday there is going to be a tour of Fayette and a potluck lunch on at noon. We think it will be fun but we won't go if you need us Jeannie and Rick. We're going to leave this coming Monday July 9th for Utah - we should be in Lehi probably Tuesday night unless things change and then we'll let you know.

Bob, Claire, Johnny and Daddy & I went to Lake Quachita yesterday - we left here about 6:30 in the morning and skied all day - we left our "Island" about 2 in the afternoon and started back to the dock - we got about six miles from the shore when the boat started to smoke - we turned off the engine bad discovered we had burned out a "bushing" ?? we started to use the oars to row when a boat came by and offered to tow us in - our boat was quite a bit larger so they had to go really slow and it took us an hour and a half to get to shore - we were all so nervous because Claire was in charge of our roadshow and had to be in Jacksonville at the stake center by 6:30.we got back home about 5:30 and we really flew to get ready for the trip of Jacksonville. We made it just barely and the roadshows were all great - we really thought Little Rock I had the best one but Little Rock II won the prize for the best all round roadshow. Johnny was in ours and he did such a good job. Claire is relieved it's over - she did a wonderful job and the kids are really love her - Bob surely gave her a lot of support too. The roadshows are so much better than they were when you were involved here, Ann & Jean.

Roy is still really sad - we feel so sorry for him but there is absolutely nothing we can do - his friends have been absolutely great - they really have tired to keep him busy. He's going to Fayetteville this a weekend just for a "friendly" visit with her and her and I hope after comes back he'll be better able to cope. This is hard time for him but a few years from now he'll look on it as a necessary experience. He really wants to come to Utah before he goes back to school - he says he will stay in Providence next summer - he says there is a lot more to do there and he would be happier. He wants to visit with all of you and maybe do some backpacking - he has suggested that may be his roommate Keith would come and go with him - we'll have to wait and see. I guess they could stay in Aunt Marvel's home, and visit from there. Once he starts in Med School he is going to be super busy.

Bob and Claire have made a bid on a home over by Lois and Jim Morgan - we don't know if they will get it or not and we haven't seen it but they definitely want to buy a home so we hope they get it. They are such an asset to our Ward and we're proud of them and they're so good to Johnny.

I spent this afternoon with Cissy Beyers - they have released her other counselor, Rae Steele so we had a lot to discuss. We also had to have an orientation, meeting with the are Relief Society Presidency of the North Little Rock Ward and my counterpart, the Education Counselor is Margie Stewart. It was fun to visit with her - she has lost so much weight and looks good - she gave me the low down on the Wiggins - Pete Jr. and his wife live in Texarkana and are active in the church there - Lori is active in the North Little Rock Ward but Geoffrey is active in the Baptist Church. Her son Mike is supporting his two little boys but doesn't ever get to see them - they live in Oklahoma with Roseena and her second husband. Sherry is expecting in November and is really happy - her daughter Laura was in the roadshow last night and she has really grown up.

Roy and Maxine Bass have been home this week-end but they didn't come over - we haven't seen any of them for a long time. John Robert is out playing basketball or mowing the lawn quite often but we haven't talked to him. Bob sees David at the hospital often. Dorothy and Dan are in Fayetteville this week to visit with Dana and Terry will both be home the middle of July for a three week visit. The Barbees are going on a tour of Utah and Yellowstone Park - they'll be in Salt Lake on July 23rd - we're anxious to hear their reaction to Temple Square and the Visitors Center and everything - they are such nice people.

I can't think of any more news - we'll be able to visit in person before long. We plan to try to put in another bathroom in Aunt Marvel's home while we're there - Daddy will have to have a project or he will go crazy and we think that will be a good one.

We love you all so much and hope everything is going great for you - HAPPY JULY 4TH!!!
Please be careful and give little Susanna a hug for us - we are so anxious to see her.
