May 27, 1979 - Sunday

Dearest Ron, Ann & Susanna and Rick & Jean,

Well - Roy came home yesterday about noon and it is so good to have him home - his roommate, Ty Hartman from New York, came with him. Ty is such a nice guy and it's really fun having him here. They drove straight through and were really tired when they got here but Roy's friends have kept them busy and they still haven't had time to rest up. They took the boat out today - just on the river - to see if it was working okay and they plan to take it to a lake tomorrow and do some water skiing. They're also going to go to northern Arkansas and go through Blanchard Caverns and see some of the Ozark sights - he is going to stay until next Sunday.

Jeannie and Rick- we really loved your long and newsy letter Jeannie and the thing about the stock market from you Rick really made our day!!! That was so thoughtful of you Rick - Daddy used to check up on things like that when he went to the office every day but he doesn't do that now so he really appreciated that - we hope E. F. Hutton is right about that one. Your trip to New York sounded just great and we loved hearing about it - now that it's all over with we're so glad you went - it's trip you will never forget. Is the Grandmother that is there your father's mother Rick- I think you have said that your mother's mother lives with your folks - anyway, she really must be a nice person. Ty was so interested in how you were getting along Jeannie - we are so happy you went to see Roy and meet his roommates.

Annie and Ron - I'm going to call you in the morning - Jeannie said you were all going on a camping trip so I knew you wouldn't be home this week-end. We can not believe you have actually decided to do some camping and that you have bought a tent!!!! That is my favorite kind of vacation so I'll go with you - we all love it!!!! We can hardly wait to hear how Susanna liked it - it's good to start out with them early. We hope so much that you had good weather. Ron - we'll really be proud of you if you make a camper out of Ann - she's the only one of our family who hasn't enjoyed it before do you have any of the other equipment - like a Coleman stove, lantern, etc???? We wish you could use our trailer - that is so comfortable and we have used it twice in that last three years. This will be; your last week of school won't it Ann - Yippee!!!!

Bob was sustained as our Sunday School President today - he will do a good job and it will be good for him - he had to work so he wasn't three but he knew about it. They put Terry Webster in the Bishopric and he has been our Sunday School President. Claire is up to her ears in the roadshow - the M.I.A. kids just love her and so do we. She came over today and fixed dinner for Roy and Ty and John - it really helped us. we went to their place for dinner last week and it was so good - she was just sick at Sunday School - she had made a lemon meringue pie and had forgotten to bake the pie crust so after she put the meringue on she baked it for long enough to cook the crust and the meringue got overcooked. I could see how that could happen but she was really upset about it - I made bread yesterday and forgot to put the salt in it - it was so funny - I remembered after it was all mixed so I just added it - it isn't really too bad but it isn't really good either.

Daddy and I left about 7:30 this morning to go to Pine Bluff for their Ward Conference - we didn't get home until about 4:00 this afternoon. They are really growing down there and it was fun to go. I don't know about this new calling of mine - it really involves a lot of work and time. Next Saturday is our Feminine Fair and I have to make the salad for 200 - have big part on the program and teach a class for an hour. The next big thing on June 10 when we're going to have about 25 people here for some kind of missionary function - then June 23rd is Regional Meeting and our Stake Relief Society is in charge of our part of it for the Region. We'll be ready for a month's vacation by the time August comes.

It's really late so I'll close for now - we love you all so very, very much - we are proud of you and can hardly wait to see little Susanna - give her a hug from us. Our home teachers - Virgil and Frances James - came over tonight and Johnny got Susanna' picture out to show them - he will just love to play with her. BE CAREFUL.
