Dearest Ron, Ann & Susanna, Rick & Jean, Bob & Claire and Roy,

This has been a fun week - we have talked to some of you and we're so proud of Bob and Roy for their high scores on the MCAT test - we talked to Roy last night and he was pleased with his and seemed to think his continued acceptance in the Medical Program at Brown would become a reality (he'll know for sure in January) and Daddy and I both agree that if Bob doesn't get in with his scores we don't want him to be a doctor. Anyway we'll be anxious to see what happens because you have both given it your very best efforts and that'll you can do - WE'RE PROUD OF YOU!!!!

Jeannie and Rick - it was fun to tell to you - I loved hearing about Pam Olinghouse and I'm so happy you could spend some time with her Jeannie. She has certainly been exposed to the Mormon church and we would like to think that some day she would investigate it on her own. I am really surprised that she would stay in North Dakota now that she's separated - with her family all here and no relatives there, why would she stay???? How is Hershey??? (That's the name of their little poodle.) How are your draperies coming? I have thought so much about you with your snowstorm - you are really isolated and with the streets not being cleared that could be a problem - I would love to be snowed in like that but when you have to go to work you have to go to work. Jeannie, do you have to work the holiday schedule again this year? It seems like you have worked on thanksgiving and Christmas for the last two or three years. E.F. Hutton was on a list of preferred stocks that Lynn brought home the other day and there was a good article about them - surely hope you are still enjoying your work Rick.

Annie and Ron - it was fun to talk to you too Annie - I'll be happy when Susanna can goo or coo or something on the phone. Roy said he had received a picture of her and we're envious - our pictures were ready yesterday but I didn't get to pick them up - if Oscos is open today we may go get them - so many people have said, "You mean you don't have a picture", so when we get some they'll be sorry!!!! Whenever I see a baby about her age I try to envision what she looks like - Wendy Halpin came to Relief Society with her 2 1/2 week old baby this week and it was a very cold rainy day and I wanted to scold her (but I didn't) - she also has a little boy about 2 years old who runs her ragged - her husband is in Medical School here and they have four little children (he isn't a member and her father's a Stake President in Washington). Ron - did you go to Iowa? We hope it was a good trip if you went and that your computer program is working the way you want it to.

Roy - Daddy and I are so pleased with the happiness that is in your voice this year - I hope it isn't put on for our benefit. You really sound on top of things and that is so wonderful. We hope you have a good Thanksgiving with you friends - it's so nice of Ty's folks to invite you to their home. I wonder what happened to Dana Abraham - we watched for the scores of the Brown-Dartmouth game and saw where Dartmouth won - too bad!!!! I thought maybe some of your friends would be in town for the Razorback game yesterday but we didn't hear from any of them - 'course it's dumb to come for the game and then have to go back to school for just three days - we hope some of them will comb by when they're home for Thanksgiving. You're so smart to already have your plane reservations for Christmas - we can hardly wait for the 15th - it will be just wonderful to have you home again.

Claire and Bob, we know you're relieved to have received the MCAT scores - Bob had said while he was home that if they came while he was gone and they were low Claire had the right to pack up and leave - we're glad that won't be necessary. Morris Clark called us the other night and talked to us about the lease on Aunt Marvel's property - he just wants to have the dates changed and the way he explained it us made sense - he-was very nice - thanks for getting that to him. I don't know what Johnny lived on before he was introduced to your "Orange Julius's" Claire - he makes at least three or four a day and loves them and so do his friends!! I made your "Tunnel of fudge" cake and it was delicious but it didn't look like yours did. We made your pizza for lunch today and John said it wasn't as good - we left out the mushrooms. We hope you have the drapes ordered by now so they will be installed before Christmas - we would love to be there to see how the furnace works - a warm Aunt Marvel's house in the Winter!

We're so happy they have made computers that will write letters Roy - we really love them - sometime I hope to know how they work!!!!!

Your letter was so good Ann - we loved hearing about Susanna's debut at church - we are so thrilled that Agnes was able to make the trip and could enjoy her little namesake. Everyone here is so happy for you and wants to see her as soon as possible.

After church - Johnny and I went to Oscos and got the pictures - they're really wonderful. There is one of Daddy holding Susanna that would take a prize - I would like to take credit for taking it but I believe it was Ron. There are some that John took of Jeannie and Rick's home the day they were moving in and they are really good - your home just looks beautiful and I'm glad we have them. Daddy took some of that "Halloween House" in Lehi and they would also take prizes - I can't believe what good pictures that camera will take if it's done right. Let me know if you want copies of any of them - otherwise I won't send them because you probably all have a lot - I would love to get copies made though if you want.

We have a new Bishop - Russ Tolman. His counselors are Nelson Rivers and Ed Lucas. It is so funny - Dave and Laura gave their farewell speeches and he was released and now they're not sure they are going to go. Nelson has offered to sell Dave half his business and Dave really wants to stay and Laura wants to move - we don't know what will happen.

Before I forget - we had an announcement of Dickson Abel's wedding and an "At Home" card enclosed giving their new address in Louisiana - it was here when we got back from Utah - it was really mailed late but I guess you can do that when there isn't an invitation involved - they didn't know we would be in Utah at that time or I'm sure we would have received invitations to their reception. I believe I will send them a Frances James' cookbook since I'm sure they will have everything else.

We had Stake Relief Society Leadership meeting yesterday - they have it on a special day so it won't conflict with other meetings. It was really nice - I went into Shawna's room where she was teaching the Cultural Refinement lesson and she was dressing in a Scottish Kilt and the whole costume - I thought she looked a little strange but I didn't say anything - it wasn't until later that I realized she had dressed to fit the country she was giving the lesson about. She said to be sure to tell you all 'hello' for them - she's doll and really a big help to her Mother in her calling. That Stake Relief Society is really something. I went for the cooking class where we learned how to make homemade noodles and also pies - it was good. I also went for the Mother Education class.

Daddy and John went duck hunting yesterday morning and got their limit - Daddy says that John is a better shot than he is. John hasn't stopped talking about it - they're going again Wednesday morning and probably many more times while hunting season is on!!!!

Roy Bass brought his new bride home last Sunday - I visited with her over the back fence several times and then Dorothy and I had a dessert party for them on Wednesday night. She is very much like Janie only much more refined. She is a beautiful woman and has diamonds on every finger - Roy seems so happy. They left Thursday to go back to her home in Louisiana - they say they'll be up here about once or twice a month for the next year and then they plan to move up here - she has one more year to work for her retirement. She has lived in Plain Dealing, La. All her life and is one of 8 children and all he brothers and sisters live close by - I doubt that she will ever move up here definitely. David and Donald are living in the home now and then John Robert will be here when he finishes dental school next month - so we'll have a bachelor's pad for a while - they're really great boys though!!!

We have sold four of our puppies - we just had the ad put in yesterday - we have two to go. We're going to take Winky out to the Animal Shelter so they can find a home for her. We haven't decided for sure about Daisy yet. The puppies are darling but I will be happy to have them all gone - people don't hesitate paying $125 a piece for them!!!!

Jeannie - I'm loving my measuring cups - they are really great - especially the 2/3 and 3/4 ones - why didn't someone think of that before!!!!

We love each one of you so very much and we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving - it's going to be dull around here - we may go to the Hall-Central game!!!!!
