Sunday - Sept. 3rd
Dearest Ron &Ann, Rick & Jean and Bob & Claire,
We're so happy you're home Woolleys - your trip sounded just fabulous and we're anxious to hear more about everything. Have your been teaching school this week Ann? Daddy brought home an article about using "hydrogen for fuel" and it told a little about the conference in Zurich - it was in "Chemical Week" - I'll send it to you. We are really getting excited about our little grandchild - many of our friends seem so surprised when they hear about it and we tell them we haven't really dared to think too much about it so we haven't said anything - now it seems a sure thing and we're so thrilled. We agree that it would be best for us to come after the baby is born - Daddy wants to come and if everything is much that he can we'll all come out, otherwise I'll come for sure - I worry a little about taking Johnny out of school - could you wait for the Thanksgiving Holidays!!!!! Ha!
Jeannie and Rick - it was so much fun to talk to you - thank you so much for calling. We don't blame you for being disappointed about your house being so slow in getting finished - the last little bit always seems so slow but that has been unusually slow. They could get an entire crew in there and finish it up in just a few days if they would and we hope they do. We're so happy you're feeling better all the time Jeannie and we're proud that you are smart enough to follow your doctor's advice so closely - we just know things will work out just great for you.
Claire and Bob - we loved talking to today Claire - Aunt Marvel's house sounds wonderful and we can hardly wait to see it. One thing I want to make clear though, is that I will never expect it to be spotlessly clean - it would be impossible with that house and you two have both gone beyond the call of duty to paint and do all that you're doing. The vacuum deal was marvelous and I'm really glad that you can use it on the kitchen floor - I thought that had to be done with a special one. Daddy wishes you were closer to you could help him do hours Bob - he is going to try it while I'm gone. It is so fun for me to hear you talk about people I have known so long ago - I never did know the Wanlass family though. We knew some Wanlasses in Logan - ask them if one of their relatives married an Anita Campbell from Logan - she was a wonderful friend of mine and she married a Wanlass boy (I believe his name was Larry) and he ended up being a President of some College in Panama or someplace like that. There were some really bad feelings between Lucille and Aunt Marvel but it wasn't so much over money as it was that she married Uncle Hugh civilly and then after he died she married someone else in the Temple - Aunt Marvel is so loyal and she thought that was really bad. Is Lucille's husband dead now? Are they in your Ward? We're so proud of you for visiting the elderly people like that. Mabel Jones sent me the picture of Mother's 8th grade class that in the Lehi paper - I sent it on to Mother - it was such a darling picture of her. Your garden must have been really productive - we're so glad to know that you can grow things there - our garden hasn't done very well this year - really we haven't had our heart in it - Johnny couldn't eat the tomatoes because of his mouth ulcers, Daddy couldn't eat the cucumbers because of his stomach and Roy doesn't eat enough to feed a bird so that left me to either eat it or can it and we never did get enough at one time to can so it wasn't too successful.
Daddy and Johnny and I went fishing out to Maumelle last night - they each caught some nice bass and I caught one little bream but we had a wonderful fish dinner today. We're going to go out again tomorrow since it's Labor Day. Johnny really loves to fish and they bought me my own pole and "rig" so now I don't have an excuse.
Roy left for Fayetteville on Friday morning - he has been there three times in the last two weeks - he leaves for school on Tuesday. We just hope he had the maturity and good sense to stay at school and not come back and forth to Fayetteville. He has almost 80,000 miles on his car and when it stops he will be on foot - he bought him a tool kit for it and he packs that with the Toyota Manual and feels confident that he can fix anything that might go wrong with it. He really needs to settle down to school work now and I'm sure he will once he gets back to Brown - they just play at Fayetteville!!!!
I went to a baby shower for Carla Culwell Pearce last week - she had a little baby boy - that makes two boys and one girl for her. I'm invited to one for Lori Knoeppel next week - her baby is due in a couple weeks. I also went to a bridal party for a daughter of a friend of mine - Halen Bridges was there and we had a good visit - she looks just the same and said to tell you all hello.
The Smithers have bought a home on Biscayne - it's about three houses down from Leawood and Biscayne - we're so excited to have a Mormon family for neighbors. There home is on the same side of the street as the Astons and it has a swimming pool - we had heard they were separating but I guess they are going to try to stay together for awhile.
I'm going to leave Friday for Rochester - I'm looking forward to being with the folks for awhile and I hope so much that they will be able to find out what's the matter with Mother. I also hope they'll be able to take her right in for tests so we won't have to wait for a long time - it will be a fun experience. I'm just amazed that Daddy will leave his home for that long. I'll write to you from there next Sunday - I'm sure I'll have a lot of time.
Johnny really likes school - he leaves the house at 7:30 and catches the bus at Lyric and Gillette and then stays for football so he doesn't get home until 6:00 p.m. He loves football and it's good for him but I don't know if he'll get to play very much. He's in the advanced classes so he might get challenged.
Our neighbors have moved in the old Bridges' home - I went in with a friend of theirs to clean the other night and it was all so vacant and I couldn't stay - I got so depressed thinking of all the fun I have had there with Janie Bass and Helen and the other neighbors. The new neighbors seem really nice and their daughter is Johnny's age and will go to Forest Heights - the Mother is a school teacher - their name is "Hoskins".
Daddy and Johnny and I went to Atkins Orchards yesterday and picked three bushels of apples - I would like to make applesauce but I don't know if I'll have time before I go to Rochester.
Well - that's all the news. We hope you're all doing fine - it won't be long until we'll be out to see you. Please be very careful in everything you do and remember we love you and hope you'll let us know if you need anything.
