August 13, 1978 - Sunday

Dearest Ron & Ann, Rick & Jean and Bob & Claire,

We just came home from our Stake Conference - it was really, really good. Daddy gave an excellent talk and so did many others. Our new Mission President and his wife spoke and they did such a good job - Paul Sherwood and Robbie Stokes spoke as returned missionaries and they were good. Daddy always sighs a sigh of relief when these are over - our next one will be in October and we'll have a General Authority here for that one. After this year, we'll only have two Stake Conferences a year instead of four and that will make it easier. Stake Conferences always involve two days - Saturdays and Sundays and that makes a long week-end. Did I tell you that Daddy McKeldry is the new Bishop of the Jacksonville Ward - isn't that great???

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY RICK AND JEANNIE!!!!! We have tried to call you and will try again before the day is over. You have had two wonderful years together and we're so proud of you - especially of your progress and activity in the church - we can assure you, without any doubt, that you will achieve great things and great happiness if you continue to love and serve our Heavenly Father. We are always telling others of our children in Utah who are so active in the church - you are so smart to have such strong testimonies so young in life - many people don't realize its importance until much later.

I loved our visit over the phone Claire - you really sound on top of things!!!!! As I told you, so many of our friends have called to tell they have received such sweet thank you notes from you - I know you must be happy to have them done. Bob - we're proud of you for getting the typewriter in good working order - it should be a good one and we have had it fixed - I could never figure out the margin sets. We hope you'll both be traveling in the same direction when school starts. Claire said you like your job Bob but you're more convinced than ever that you want to go on to school - that's good!!!

Ron and Ann - you won't get this until you get home from Europe - we hope you have a super time - we're so anxious to have you get home and tell us all about it - we also hope you'll send us some postcards. Ron's folks sent Daddy a beautiful birthday card - that was really nice. One of our missionaries told me today that she had seen the Kenworthys in Rogers, Arkansas - I wish so much that we had known they were there because we were through there and could have probably found them because it's such a tiny town.

John Robert Bass came over to visit with me yesterday and told me that he and Judy have separated and are getting a divorce - isn't that sad???? He also told me that Pam is in North Dakota and her husband is in Dallas - I asked him what Pam was doing in North Dakota and he said she had a boyfriend there so I'm assuming they are separating too. This seems like gossip (what else could it be called!!!!) but I knew you would be interested I feel so bad for Roy Bass - Donald bought a 1965 Mustang against his father's wishes and forgot to get insurance on it and then had an accident - his girlfriend hit the windshield and had to have 150 stitches in her face but she was the worst one hurt - the other car was totaled but no one was seriously injured. Luckily - Roy had called his insurance company and told them he was going to insure Donald's car so they are honoring it. He had had his share of problems this year.

One day last week Johnny and I went shopping for school clothes for him - we were riding on Rodney Parham next to the Pleasant Valley Country Club and all of a sudden I could see these blue lights flashing in my rear view window - I pulled over and the police man gave me a speeding ticket - I was going 45 miles an hour in a 35 mile zone - I couldn't believe it - the second one I have had in my entire life and the first speeding ticket. I thought Johnny was going to burst with laughter but I didn't think it was very funny.

Pete Wiggins Sr. is in the hospital - he had prostrate glad operation and they found a malignancy - we haven't heard how he's doing but I guess it's serious. He has been such a stalwart old gentleman I really hate to hear this. Margie Stewart was at Conference and she has lost 90 lbs. wants to lose another 20 - she looks great!!!!

I went to a Garden Club luncheon for a friend who is leaving Little Rock - it was at Marty' Grigg's home and it was so nice. It was a potluck luncheon and we all took salads - I took a marinated carrot dish - Carol had sent me the recipe and they all loved it. Betty Luten brought her Oriental rug that she is making to show everyone - it's just beautiful - I have signed up to make one and hope I can arrange to be in town the days the lady comes to teach us how. I think it would be so much fun to have one that Daddy and I can both work on this Winter.

Bro. Otto Bohn and his family are moving to Mountain Home, Arkansas. He won the bid to build the new L.D.S chapel there so they will be there a year - rumor has it that they may stay if they like it. He has been on the High Council for thirteen years and he gave his farewell speech today. We went to an Open House in their honor last week at the home of the DuCrets - it was nice and they have a beautiful home in Otter Creek - way out South in Little Rock. Sharon Jones (Brown) and her husband Layne live out near where the Otto Bohn's home is and now Layne's parents have moved to Little Rock so they're going to rent Otto's home for a year.

Daddy and Johnny and I plan to go to Florida this next week - we'll leave on Tuesday and come home Saturday - it will be a short trip an slot of travel but it will be fun - Daddy has business in Lakeland, Florida so we'll go there and then to Cypress Gardens and a few other fun places - our last vacation trip before school starts!!!!! Roy will be home and will know where we are if you need us. Roy has one more week to work and then he'll have a little vacation. He's going to take Jill to school next Sunday and then stay in Fayetteville for a few days and then come home. All his friends will be going back to school then and it will be fun for him to be with them for a little while. He's going to Brown around the 7th - he wants to go early so he can study in earnest for his MCAT test - he'll be happy when that's over.

Johnny went to Hot Springs with Chris and Wayne Smith last Friday night and then they brought him back this morning for our Conference. He really had fun - Wayne said they started fishing Saturday morning at 6:30 and fished until 8:00 that night - they didn't catch anything but they really had fun. They are such sweet, sweet people. Our house is much too quite without him though!!!

Debbie Najera has a little baby girl - and her husband has left her. Edward and William are also getting divorced - I don't know how Ernie and Pat can stand it.
John register for school; tomorrow - he has signed up to play football - he went to gym the other night for a meeting and there weren't too many who were larger so he's encouraged.

Terry Woods has decided to not got to BYU - we are disappointed. She has been rather frustrated lately so I guess it's the best thing - she has moved back home and she said she would never do that. Right now she is on a "Christian High Adventure" trip in Colorado - there are seventeen in the group - 16 boys and Terry. Can you remember when her folks wouldn't let her go in your tree house with you and David, Bob????

We called Grandmother and Grandpa Forrest on Friday to wish Grandmother Happy Birthday - they're fine. I told that I would plan the trip to Mayo after we heard when it would be best for Rick and Jean to take her to Salt Lake and put her on the pane. They called me for Mayo the other day and suggested we come in January when it would be less busy than it is now but I remember the Winters there and January would be bad so I hope to be able to go in September.

We love you each one so very much and hope everything is going great. Please be careful in everything you do.
