Sunday
Dearest Ann & Ron, Jean & Rick, Bob and Roy,
The big news for this letter is that Roy came home. He called Friday afternoon and said he and his friends Keith and Ty would be here Saturday about two in afternoon on their way from Florida back to school. We were painting his bathroom so we hurried and finished and had just cleared away the paint mess when they came - it was absolutely wonderful to have them - we just loved his friends!!!! They spent Saturday night and then left today about noon to go back - they'll get in Providence tomorrow (Monday night) and I'll be glad when they're back safe and sound. I felt bad because I was so involved in the church standards program - usually it's Daddy who is so involved. I said I would do one of the workshops when it was scheduled way back in February and then it was "snowed out" and rescheduled. I really spent way too much time on little mementos and visual aids - in fact, most of last week - and not enough time on my talk - I have given a million of those and I'm going to say no from now on. It was a big success though - they had a dinner and dance after and Daddy and I went over for a few minutes for the dance and we were surprised at the large crowd - it was for Mutual age - Keith Jones had his last spree before going on his Mission and really had fun. Roy looks better than I have seen him look for a long time - he says it was the week on the beach - I wish so much that he could come home on week-ends and bring his friends - it really made our home the way it should be. We'll love the oranges and grapefruit Roy and Johnny is so thrilled with his sand dollar.
Daddy really loved his visit with you Utah kids- he has talked and talked about each one of you - he loved your home Jeannie and Rick - says it has "real possibilities" - we hope so much that everything goes through and you get it! he thinks the bookcase that Ron has built is really beautiful and he appreciated your going to Brigham City with him Annie. He says "Now Bob will begin to really fill out with Claire's cooking" - he loved your chicken and dumplings, Claire. He's anxious to have Bob start his garden!! All in all he agrees with me that it's really fun to go to Utah to be with you.
Thanks so much for your phone call Jeannie - I told Roy you said "Hello" - we really would have liked to have him call each of you but we didn't - he wasn't home long enough. Becky Ewing came to see him twice and finally found him home about one o'clock this morning - she had called Sat. morning and I told her he was coming in - she wanted to see him before she goes on her Mission. He took the boat out on the river for a little while and then went to see some of his friends who were home from the U of A for the week-end.
Johnny and I drove to Batesville with Daddy this afternoon to attend their Sacrament meeting - this was the first time in their new chapel. They bought a building from the Baptist church for $100,000.00 and it is so nice - Daddy says it would cost three times that much to build it now - they have a very small congregation but the Stake is hoping it will grow now so they can operate the building. It reminded me of Little Rock when we first moved here and when we can see how much we have grown we realize it will happen there too.
Johnny got such a good report card again - 5 A's and 1 B - Merrie Lateana gave him a 2 in citizenship again though so he won't make the Beta Club - she says "He must learn to control his outbursts of Laughter" - if that will keep him out of the Beta Club I don't think I want him in it. I'm really getting disgusted with the public schools here - they have really botched it up this year -It isn't so bad for Leawood - Johnny will go to Forest Heights next year - but many people in our area will go to Dunbar.
Bob - graduation time is getting near - will you send us a write up about it and an announcement or something - I can't believe we aren't going to be there - please go through the commencement exercise - that's important!!! We're surely proud of you!!!
Annie - are you still feeling good - surely do hope so and hope you're taking it easy. Next week-end is Stake Conference and Bro. Low will be with us. I'll write a better letter next week - it's late and I want to get him in the mail. We love each one of you so very much - please be really careful in everything you do.
